View 10 RepliesHas anyone switched from a standard home internet to using just the droid X hotspot capabilties? If so how does the cost compare? I am considering getting two droid x's and paying for tethering if it will repalce my normal home internet which is via satellite and runs $45 a month.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently rooted my Incredible and installed Cyanogen 6.00 RC3. I liked some things about it but missed some of the stock HTC widgets and apps. The Cyanogen rom had wifi hot spot, and it worked great. I could connect more than one computer to it, as it acted like a Hotspot.
Today i reflashed to Virtuous 2.7 Rom, which is alot like the stock 2.2. I got back the things I missed in Cyanogen but no wifi hotspot. Instead, there is "Wireless Tethering" which doesn't seem to work. The latest version is installed, version 2.0.5-pre9. Neither of my computers can "see" the connection.
Is there any way I can get the wifi hot spot app that was in Cyanogen and install it on my phone with the Virtuous 2.7 Rom? wireless tethering really doesn't do what I want it to.
Will it be possible to tether the epic 4g to a laptop (perhaps through USB) instead of using the wifi hot spot capability? The wifi router/hot spot option is an additional $30 a month and I don't anticipate I will need the option often enough to justify the cost. Is there an option to tether epic4g without the wifi hot spot option?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was under the impression that when Android 2.2 was released and upgraded the Droid there would be an included WiFi Tether app to create a mobile hotspot on the device. However, since I received the update, I've yet to be able to find the app.
Was there not an included app in the upgrade?
Is there an app in the Market that will suffice that will not require the Droid to be rooted?
Is a rooted Droid with Android 2.2 the only way to have a WiFi Tether app run successfully on the Droid?
I've had a Galaxy Tab for 2 years, and used it, very successfully, as a wifi hotspot from May until July this year, when my laptop was suddenly not able to connect to the internet via the hotspot. It connected just fine to the Tab, and has no problems on my home wifi. The Tab was still able to connect to the internet normally, with no apparent problems.
I fiddled about a bit and thought perhaps it was a hardware problem, so bought a seconhand Nexus S. That has been working fine until yesterday, when the exact same thing has happened - the laptop can connect fine to the Nexus, but says there is no internet connection. The Nexus itself is connecting just fine.
I'm in the UK - my carrier is Three (Hutchinson).
I have rooted my Droid 1, installed Cyanogen's 6.0 ROM, but I am baffled on how to make my phone into a wifi hotspot. Can somebody lead me into the write direction?
View 8 Replies View Relatednot sure if this has been asked before but i was just wondering if there was an app available to make the droid into a wifi hotspot, either on or off the market.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am wanting to programmaticaly set the state of the enable flag for WiFi Hotspot Tethering in Froyo. Something like this:
boolean isEnabled = Settings.System.getInt(context.getContentResolver(),
Settings.System.SOME_WIFI_TETHER_FLAG, 0) == 1;
// toggle HOTSPOT mode
Settings.System.putInt(context.getContentResolver(),
Settings.System.SOME_WIFI_TETHER_FLAG_ON, isEnabled ? 0 : 1);
// Post an intent to reload
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.SOME_WIFI_TETHER_FLAG_CHANGED);
intent.putExtra("state", !isEnabled);
sendBroadcast(intent);
Is there a programmatic flag for turning off wifi hotspot mode in 2.2 from Settings.System class?
Iv'e done alot of searching for the answer to my question with no luck. So I finally rooted and downloaded ROMmanager and installed bugless beast. I saw that there is a new WirelessTether app in my drawer. When I turn it on, it shows up as wifi on my ipod touch. Is this the same thing as a wifi hotspot?
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded from DInc to X this week. Rooted - all that fun stuff. Had AP tethering on DInc, I'm still getting adHoc with X even with version 2.0.5-pre 7. Is anyone else getting AP tethering or do we need to wait for the froyo kernal? I had originally thought any phone with the VZW wifi hotspot app had AP tethering capabilities in its kernal already.

I am running the smoked glass 4.5 and its not stable at all anymore plus I have heard good things about the 2.1 update. So I am pondering the idea of checking it out. Now if I do this, will I be able to get WiFi tethering on there at all? For free of course.

2. will verizon notice extreme usage of bandwith on my data plan from tethering too much? Supposedly our data plans are limited to 5gb a month even though they say its 'unlimited'. I don't think I'll use it all that much because i'll only use it in the event that I really need it and have no wifi access.

I am rooted on the Droid 1 with a stock FRG22D kernel and ROM.I downloaded WiFi Tether from the Market.I tried it out on several different laptops using different Windows OS.It appears to work great as long as Access Control (MAC Filtering) and WEP are turned off.If either is activated, all data transfer ceases. Other posts have also noted this issue which appears to be associated with the stock FRG22D kernel.My question is has anyone flashed a Froyo P3 or other kernal that will allow Access Control or WEP to work as intended with the stock FRG22D ROM. I am happy with the stock kernel and ROM but will consider switching if I can find a compatable kernel or other configuration.Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Bugless Beast 0.7.5 yesterday (loving it so far, OC'd to 800mhz), but the wifi tether is running very slow. I'm using the Wireless Tether for Root Users app, and I'm getting terrible speeds.Speeds I'm getting are: 634kbps down, 106kbps up. Is this normal or is something wrong with my setup?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI rooted my phone about a month ago using BB v1.0 and loving it.The major reason I rooted was for the wifi tether.My situation might be a bit different than other people that are using wifi tether, since I'm connecting to my car (www.mp3car.com).Using the app wifi tether, I can easily connect to a network manually, but everytime I turn off my car, it obviously looses connection.When I turn my car back on,I have to MANUALLY reconnect.I am using Windows 7 and have created the profile that's supposed to reconnect automatically, but it never does.I believe that since this isn't a real wifi hotspot and just an adhoc network, that this automatic connection isn't possible with just Windows 7 networking settings.Has anyone had any success getting your wifi tether to automatically connect to their laptop when you turn it on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy first droid died recently (RIP), and thankfully the insurance did have droid 1's to replace it (refurb). My original had the raised keyboard, this one doesn't. Otherwise seems the same--except: under Settings-->Wifi and Networks is a tab called "Tethering." So I plugged it into my computer, turned on USB Tether, and yet I couldn't seem to get internet from the phone's data service. Is this a weird, non-working foyo feature?
View 8 Replies View RelatedHow does either the sprint or verizon wifi hotspot option compare to a real broadband connection? I'm assuming the speeds would be poorer but I want to hear from a personal account first. If the 3g performance is exceptional i may just drop my comcast cable modem given the droid x can support up to 8 wireless devices.

I'm still deciding whether or not to try it tonight, I'm stoked though. Will update once I implement.
I am running Ultimatedroid 5.x which is the ere25 base. Does anyone know or have WiFi tethering capabilities running a rom with the ere25 base? It will open and start it just wont actually draw data from your phone. Also I have ChevyNo1's 1.2 kernel and its says + WiFi module but maybe I am doing something wrong.
