Feb 3, 2010
So I know there are a few others in my boat with damaged speaker mesh. It pushes in very easily and although I was being careful I did it myself. My fault, my bad. Is a bummer.I contacted blue rocket from GrapiXpressions to see if they would be able to make replacement speaker mesh

I got my first smart phone on 15 July, a Droid X. Everything was OK till last week when it died. I took the dead phone to VZ and they examined it and said there was moisture damage. Seems like there are some places on the phone that turn red when exposed to moisture. Bottom line was they are replacing the phone, but I had to buy a new battery and sign up for the $US4.95 a month insurance.
I do live in Florida and it can get hot and humid in the summer here. So my question is just how much do you have to baby a phone like the DX?
I thought I was careful with mine. Did not every carry it with me in the swimming pool. Kept in a nice silicon case to protect from bumps, and had another old HP calculator case that I often kept it in for more protection. Never had anything happen like dropping a Coke on the DX.
The lady at VZ was kind of a bozo, she even wanted to over charge me for the battery; but some guy in a suit came out of the back room and said I was a preferred customer and gave me a discount. When I asked about buying a different case that would protect my phone from water (I have seen OEM water proof cases advertised on the internet) she said that was not necessary.
Do other peeps have "moisture" issues with their phones, and if so how do you deal with them? Now that I know where the red spots show up if there is moisture damage I will probably start checking them. But if smart phones are so fragile that I have to baby them so they last more than three months I may have to review my decision to buy one.

So as the title states my Droid has some major water damage, but after about 30 min of low heat in my oven and a few more hours of drying it now powers on. Problem it is stuck on the bootloader. So my question is do you guys think I screwed up whatever part of the phone that stores the ROM, does it need more dry time (this only happened about 4 hours ago), or should I just try reinstalling my ROMS off my SD card without waiting any longer? I'm planning on giving it another cycle of heat/dry time then reflashing everything but don't really want to go through all the hassle.

I was at the beach today and my sister dropped my phone in the water, and now it wont turn on. The phone is still under the 30 day return policy from VZW. Will they accept it, or do I need to spend another ridiculous amount of money for the phone? I was going to take the phone back anyway for massive amounts of dropped calls and desktop wont rotate horizontally. You can't really tell it has been damaged, it just wont turn on. The water damage sticker is still red.

Does overclocking your droid to lets say 800mhz or 1000mhz overheat it? Or will it cause any damage to it?

In my application I'm trying to create a mesh that is shaded by a single directional light. The problem I'm facing is that I can't seem to get the light to take my normals into account at all.
It works fine if I set the normals on a per-triangle-strip basis, but if I try to render a series of triangles with normals set using the glNormalPointer method the entire mesh is rendered using the same color (which is identical to the result I'm getting if I skip calling glNormalPointer all together).
My mesh render method looks like this:

I Installed speaker on when in car kit. WTF the car kit blocks the speaker, so the volume sucks. Do you have to drill holes in the damn thing, or is there a way to increase speaker volume when in car kit?

My headset speaker (non-speaker phone) has a buzz to it when the in-call volume is all the way up, or one notch away from full. If I call voice mail, any automated line, or anybody speaks loudly the words are distorted by the speaker buzz. I'm not sure how else to describe it other than distortion/speaker issue. Does anybody else have their in-call volume all the way up that could confirm whether this is happening on theirs? My wife has the incredible and when I compare on her voicemail full in-call volume, it is perfect. I'm thinking about exchanging at Best Buy, but wan't to make sure its not common before I do. Would hate to go through the trouble if they all make this buzz/distortion.

Don't put off calling CS or going into a store. I had it, but it wasn't that bad. I thought it was tolerable. Then it got ten times worse between phone calls. And after using my husband's X and bearing how crystal clear and loud it is, I know I definitely got a defect.

The speaker on the back has a support beneath it (where the speaker(s) would be), except in one area. Off center to the right there is a hollow area where it can be dented, which I found out the hard way. I just happened to look at it and notice this defect. Having never dropped mine, I have no idea what could have caused this other than something pressing on it in my pocket. Upon further inspection I found out that this area is in fact pliable, due to the lack of support behind it.Will be dropping by VZW on monday. Since I'm within my 30 days until jan. 3rd, I hope they replace it for me. It would really suck to have to pay my $89 deductible (or whatever it is) just for this, but I can't be showing off my Droid with a dented speaker

The speaker is on the back of the phone, below the battery cover. When I hold the phone by its sides while watching a video, the speaker sound can sound tiny. But when I cup the back of the phone with my right hand, the volume is increased, possibly because the sound bounces off my hand.

I've been running this phone fine now for 6 months or so. All of a sudden earlier this week, there is now a speaker button on the botton middle of my phone when it's in a call. It's a plain ugly white button and it sits UNDER the existing "Mute" "Bluetooth" and "Speaker" buttons that are currently there.

just received my X about two weeks ago. I love it. It is way better than my old BB Storm. So far I have only found one issue that I can't seem to resolve. It seems that from time to time my external speaker just stops working for media files. The ringer will still work as will any alerts, but if I try to play a YouTube file there is no sound. A reboot of the unit will fix this, but I am wondering if this is a know glitch or if I might have an app that is causing this. I tried searching for this topic but the only thing that comes up is a thousand threads complaining about the sound level.

People cannot hear me on speaker phone. I'm not sure if it's because I SBF'ed back to stock, which may be different than when I first got the phone? Other than that, my phone is perfect. I would hate to have to go through a refurb. I was wondering if it was possibly a software issue.

I use my Droid to play music in my car. Prior to update, turning media all the way up on Droid would make a crackling sound in the speakers.(This is with Droid hooked up or Droid by itself) Since the update, I'm able to turn it all the way up with no crackling. It sounds fantastic.

So I got my X, I love it all in all a much better phone that the original Droid (other than the lack of root thus far). Anyway, I have noticed that sometimes the audio from a call comes through the earpiece very low volume. Also when using the speakerphone feature (because it's hard to hear through the earpiece) I found that the caller on the other line can't hear me unless I yell into the phone! For a phone with 3 mics I'm not happy with these issues.
