Motorola Droid 2 :: Crappy GPS Receiver / Firmware?

Nov 11, 2010

The only thing I've found on the Droid2 that's bad is the GPS. I was testing Back Country Navigator on our walk today and without cellular assistance the GPS is essentially useless. It had me about 7 miles away from my true location. It was probably 90% overcast.
From backcountrynavigators website:

Android :: Hardware / Firmware - GPS Receiver?

Jul 19, 2010

I'm writing a toy car-navigation app for Android, mostly to learn the Android SDK. While testing my application, it worked fine for a few hours. Then, suddenly, it reported my position as being in a town 100km south of my real position, travelling at 300km/h. I was in fact travelling at approximately 120km/h. I changed application to Google Maps, and it also showed the same erroneous position and approximate velocity. Since I was driving a car in dense traffic at high speed, for safety, I decided not to start fiddling with the phone any more, and just put it away. The next time I took it up (maybe 15 minutes later), the position and velocity was correct again. I will add diagnostics to my program to show the reported accuracy of the GPS-fix.

I have a few questions: Is this a hardware/firmware problem in android phones? (I have a HTC Hero) Is this a known failure mode of GPS-receivers? What could make the GPS-receiver report such inaccurate positions? I had another GPS receiver in the car (a Garmin car navigator). Could this receiver have interferred with the HTC Hero unit?

Motorola Droid 2 :: GPS Receiver Not Working

Oct 21, 2010

When using G Maps, it says Waiting for Location almost indefinitely.I reinstalled the G Maps updates. Then I downloaded GPS Status to see if a different app could use the receiver and it had similar problems. After 20 minutes or so, it got a lock onto the satellites but not only did it display our location as several hundred feet off, it didn't track our movements while we were in the car going 60 mph.Apparently, it got a lock, but only momentarily or with very poor reception. So I have all of the typical forum questions.

1) Has this been reported before for the D2?

2) Is there anything I can do fix this before doing a hard reset?

Motorola Droid :: Includes FM Receiver And Transmitter

Dec 14, 2009

I was looking for some information on the TI processor in the Droid when I came across the information for the WiFi/Bluetooth chip in the Droid, the TI WL1271. Check out it's info here:

Mobile Wireless LAN - WiLink™ 6.0 Solutions

It says "provide FM transmit and receive functions to turn the handset into a personal area broadcast device"

So, why don't we have transmit/receive functions on our phone?

Another feature the WL1271 has is support for 802.11n. Why don't we have that, too?

Motorola Droid :: Android Phone As Bluetooth Receiver?

Oct 16, 2010

I was wondering if anyone knew of an app that could make an Android phone act as as a bluetooth receiver. The phone being a deactivated Droid ERIS I have laying around that I'm not using. What I want to be able to do is connect my laptop to the ERIS with bluetooth (laptop has bluetooth connectivity) and have my laptops audio go to the ERIS (ERIS would be plugged into a set of speakers through it's 3.5mm headphone jack). In essence, the opposite of what people usually use a phones bluetooth connectivity for. Anyone know of an app that can do this?

Motorola Droid :: Bluetooth Stereo Adapter - Streaming Music To Home Theater Audio Receiver

Mar 20, 2010

I was looking for a bluetooth device that I can connect to my Home theater receiver. Size is not an issue as it will sit in the closet and will be running on AC power all the time. I saw this real cheap device on deal extreme but reviews aren't great. DealExtreme: $12.99 Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP AVRCP Stereo Music Receiver and Handsfree (Black)

I also found this. Amazon.com: BlackBerry Bluetooth Stereo Gateway: Cell Phones & Service . It is made for BB but will work with any A2DP device. A mini usb AC adapter is required for power source. Also found a motorola device for this. Motorola 89015J Dc800 Bluetooth Stereo Gateway | Discounted prices on all Bluetooth Headsets for the All All - shopcell.com

Media :: Audio Quality Crappy And Too Quiet

Nov 1, 2008

So is the audio quality crappy and too quiet or is it just me? I tried listening to music using the included headphones yesterday on a plane, and I could barely hear the audio. I ended up switching to my iPod, which I had hoped my G1 would replace. Has anyone used the G1 with different (i.e. better) headphones, and what were your results? (I know the headphone jack is proprietary, but I'm hoping with better headphones/earbuds and a USB to 3.5mm converter I can sqeeze better quality and volume from the G1. We'll see.)

Samsung Moment :: 2.1 - Crappy Dial Screen?

Oct 21, 2010

I have been checking for recent threads about cronic issues of dial screen problems with mute/speaker activated accidentally. I just got my phone in last 2 months and am not technically advanced enough so fear rooting my phone...dealer said it will invalidate my warrantee. My phone is already 2.1, and this issue was SUPPOSED to be resolved . Are there any work arounds for the Moments crappy dial screen? I hate that I have to hit back button to disable buttons that I never use anyway. And when the screen is gone...it is a pain to bring back the dial screen if I need to use dial tones, since the keypad letters do not work on phone system prompts because they don't activate keytones. Is there any good (not buggy) work around dial screen applications for this other than rooting my phone?

Android :: Broadcast Receiver - Create A Broadcast Receiver Which Responds To System Events

Sep 28, 2009

trying to create a broadcast receiver which responds to system events and change system settings. I don't need any interaction from the user so I don't need an activity and have been trying to do everything through the manifest file. I've put a log event into my onReceive method but it never logs anything so I'm presuming my method is never called. I've tried this with both the 1.5 and 1.6 SDKs. I was hoping somebody could have a look at my code please and let me know if there are any problems.

Motorola Milestone :: Firmware Customizations - Limitations - Branding - Telus

Apr 21, 2010

I am in the process of getting the Milestone after many years on the WinMo 6.1 platform (HTC TyTN II), and am very excited at the prospect, but even though I have modded that phone a LOT, I am unfamiliar with the Android OS and Milestone, and was hoping someone could answer a few quick questions, as I'm getting conflicting info reading the posts here...

1. I wanted to get the unbranded / factory unlocked version of Milestone, but looking around I find all those versions are 3G 900/2100 bands, which would not work on NAM 3G 850/1900 networks. Is there a NAM version that can be purchased directly from Motorola?

2. The Telus version seems to be using a custom Telus bootloader. Does that mean this phone has any kind of custom Telus software, startup/shutdown logos showing Telus? I cannot stand customized carrier crap on smart phones and want nothing to do with them

3. I also read a post that says it's now possible to root the Telus Milestone. If I did, does that mean I can put another SBF that has stock Motorola software, and erase everything from Telus?

If I can wipe out all the Telus crap and turn one of theirs into a "clean" Milestone, that would be awesome!

HTC EVO 4G :: FM Receiver On Evo

May 14, 2010

This might be a dumb question but could there be any chance the receiver could work as a transmitter as well? I really have no knowledge of receivers/transmitters when it comes to radio frequencies.I know, what you're saying, "the spec sheet would say so".However I'm just curious if it's maybe a duel transmitter and receiver but is only using the receiver end.I imagine someone with a current Android phone with a FM receiver could answer this as it would probably use the same technology. If you could get it to transmit you could probably create some sort of media player app that transmit so you don't have to buy any car accessory if you have an older stereo.I also imagine you could come up with a fun walkie talkie app, or just create havoc on your friends/enemies radios on the fly.
