HTC Incredible :: Streaming AVI Video App?

Jun 7, 2010

So I was playing around with a file manager and logged into my home server through FTP. I have a few movies saved onto my media card but I was wondering if there is an app that would allow me to login to my home server (through ftp or something) and let me browse my vids and stream them through. In the file manager I tried and it sais that streaming wasnt available and proceeded to download the file. It would play once it was fully transfered. Any avi streamers out there?

HTC Incredible :: Streaming Video No Good Post-Froyo / Factory Reset

Sep 28, 2010

Pre-Froyo streaming video used to be pretty good on Incredible. My work often involves repetitive tasks, and the streaming video on my Incredible was, if not incredibly fast, good enough that I could catch up on TV shows which I could not make time for at home. Now, after a factory reset and Froyo, the sites which I used to stream these shows from no longer work properly on my Incredible. I actually tried several of them, including zshare, novamov, smotri, wisevid, divxden - most of these worked good enough prior to Froyo, now they all act strangely, just enough to waste my time, and then crash.

I almost thought I was ready to stop burning time making Incredible and Android work for me, and start making it work in my life. A deciding factor which sold me on this phone was the streaming video capability which others lacked at the time - and why should any smart phones not have this capability, which has been available on PCs for 10 years, in a time when smart phones can download web pages nearly as fast as Road Runner service actually does? Now that Verizon and HTC have my money, they start restricting what I can do with it, just like everybody else. Screw you, Android, HTC, Verizon, and every fanboy who defends the trojan horse they call Froyo! You fanboys, especially, who enable these frauds with your relativistic arguments. Yes, I probably am using Android and not an Apple phone because I like bluetooth, wi-fi, and my own choice of battery power, but none of that excuses the promise of features which don't actually perform - this is what the unbrainwashed would call fraud!

Android :: Streaming Encoded Video Via RTP

Jul 31, 2009

For a research project we need to capture video on the HTC magic and transmit this video over a network to other devices, both HTC magic's and desktop pc's (which have their own implementations of the codecs). For the transmission over the network we are using some of our own native libraries, which have all compiled fine and work. These libraries work via the RTP (Real time transfer) protocol. This poses a significant problem because RTP expects detailed information about the contents of each packet (exact timestamp, sampling rate, which part of which frame is in each packet etc.) So we tried the method described at http://www.mattakis.com /blog/kisg/20090708/broadcasting-video-with-an This appears the only way to get the MediaRecorder to send it's data to our native application. So we run a server-socket on the native side, send MediaRecorder output to a FileDescriptor of a javasocket. The native side does receive data. 2 problems however :

1. Like said in the blogpost : header information etc. is not filled in, so if we write the data to file from the native-side, it's not playable.

2. The socket we write to is TCP, so a stream implementation. So there is no clear way to know where each frame begins and ends (because the data comes in continuously). And that's the main problem : we can't package the data in good RTP packets for transmission! Nor can we get good information about the timing etc. So we looked into OpenCore a little bit, hoping to be able to do it through JNI-interfaces ourselves (or maybe even directly with the native implementations from our native code). This has proven a daunting task, because so little documentation can be found on these things. So the question is : Is it possible to get the encoded video (and audio) data with clear frame-separation and good timing-information for RTP transmission? (It is not an option to use anything but RTP, as the research is partly about RTP possibilities)

HTC EVO 4G :: Way To Output Streaming Video / Audio To TV?

Jun 27, 2010

I subscribed to JetFlix, in the market. (Jetflicks! TV - Android app on AppBrain) It is a $3 app with a $10/month subscription. I watch it on my phone in my car at the lake during my lunch break. I know that probably sounds sad, but it is AWESOME. I'm a manager in the dang corporate world, and I forget that I am at work by the time I'm done with a movie and come on back to the office. It's my dirty little secret. ANYWAY, there are some great shows available on this application, and I was thinking of replacing my Netflix subscription with it if I could just stream it to my TV at home. I haven't bought an HDMI cable yet, because I don't have a use for one just yet. But is anything "streamable" to the tv? I read that only pictures and videos that were shot with the camera stream though the HDMI cable. If that is the case, what is the point? I keep all that stuff on a hard drive anyway. So my question: can I hook up an HDMI cable and stream Jetflicks to my TV? The Jetflicks movies play on the native Internet browser. So I guess a more accurate question would be: Does the native internet browser display on the TV through the HDMI cable? If so, is there audio?

Android :: Streaming Video Using Non Standard Protocols

Jun 1, 2010

My company makes DVRs that specialize in streaming live and recorded video. The video is encoded using standard MPEG-4 codecs so the codecs in Android should have no trouble with them. However, the video is recorded using non-standard file formats and is streamed using our proprietary protocol (among other things we embed additional data such as watermarks with each frame of video). Is there any way I can take my stream pull out the frames and have it play on an Android device?
