HTC Incredible :: No Gchat Integration

May 22, 2010

Friends often use gmail chat to message me but I can't seem to find any gchat integration in the phone or a google app for it. Seems rather odd that this is missing from Android considering it's a commonly used Google service. Even the Palm Pre has gchat integration.

HTC EVO 4G :: Gchat Keeps Disconnecting Using The Talk App

Jul 20, 2010

So I got my Evo replaced last Friday due to screen separation issues that led to touch screen issues. My old Evo had no issues staying connected to Gchat using the Talk app.

However, this Evo seems to keep disconnecting whenever my screen turns off, and even when i reconnect, it may take up to 15 minutes to recieve messages. I have played with some settings but nothing seems to make a difference. I know this is a know issue on a lot of Android devices, but it seems to be random. I have searched and searched, and found no solution to this issue.

HTC Incredible :: Facebook Integration W/ HTC Incredible Contacts

Apr 26, 2010

Hey guys, quick question regarding facebook syncing with your phone contacts

I think this is a cool feature as long as it only syncs with the names in your contact list, but not adding all your facebook friends to your phone, but I was wondering,

Does syncing all these pictures and e-mail with contacts (say you have 2-300) use up a lot of storage space?? Would it be better to not sync them for the sake of storage?

Thanks

HTC Incredible :: Google Voice Integration

Apr 22, 2010

Hopefully next Thurday I will have 2 Incredibles. I have a google voice account and phone number. Currently mmy wife and I's cellphones both are connected to google voice, however when we call out they still see our number which is fine.

I know when I get the incredible I can set it up to you google voice to dial out and they will see the google voice number. The question is, does this work for 2 phones without screwing up other google services. i.e. I would like if both my wife and I could make outgoing calls through MY google voice number and the other side see the google number, but I want her phone setup with her gmail account etc and mine setup with my gmail account, etc.

Does anyone have this setup currently, or anyone at least know if this is a not possible thing?

HTC Incredible :: Exchange - 2007 - Integration

Apr 30, 2010

I am BRAND new here, and my Incredible showed up last night. I could not be more thrilled! This is my first smartphone (unless you count the LG Dare I had), and I am absolutely FLOORED. However, there is one thing driving me bonkers: Exchange integration.

I've tried about everything on my end. I found another thread where somebody had to have an exception for his account applied in Exchange (which worked for his HTC Hero, IIRC). I work in the IT dept. I'm fairly certain I could talk the network boys into letting me do that, but we can't even find that setting in Exchange 2007. Assuming that is even the problem, they're a little to busy to play with me and my new toy (I think they're just jealous ), and I can't do it myself.

Can anybody confirm whether the security exception is what my actual problem is, and where that setting is in Exchange 2007? If I could get them a little closer to the problem, they'll probably be a little more apt to get around to it.

Motorola Droid :: Delete A Gchat Conversation

Feb 5, 2010

I'm still getting used to using gchat but how do I close/delete a gchat conversation? I mean, if I go into "settings -> close all chats" it doesn't really do anything because if I go back and tap on someone's name, the entire conversation I just had is still there. Is there anyway to delete an entire gchat conversation like you can do with text message threads/conversations?

HTC EVO 4G :: Facebook And Calendar Integration

Jun 9, 2010

I'm new to the Android system and just got the EVO 4G when it came out last week. Alas, I'm not very familiar with the workings of the system. Of course, I have facebook so I integrated it into my phone. Well, all of my FB contacts birthdays were automatically imported into my calendar. How do I get rid of this? I have absolutely no interest in knowing that today is the birthday of someone my sister went to high school with (ie, random people I'm friends with on FB). I actually went through and deleted a lot of "friends" on Facebook to try to remedy the situation, but their birthdays are still on my calendar. Where can I turn this feature off? I tried manually getting rid of the birthdays on the calendar but my Android ignorance prevents me from doing this too.

HTC EVO 4G :: Facebook Integration For Contacts

I just jumped ship from Apple and AT&T and I'm loving the new phone! Most qalms have been easily fixed, and most things seem like common sense, but I am having trouble with my facebook integration.

I personally don't want all my facebook contacts on my phone, I would like to be able to choose which ones I sync and which ones I don't, any way to do this? It seems a all or nothing type ordeal.

Does it have any registered Intent-filters?

Android :: ADT And Eclipse Integration

Mar 8, 2009

I've installed the android SDK, Eclipse and the ADT plugin (got all the latest versions from the official websites: eclipse 3.4.2 from which I installed the ADT plugin and SDK 1.1_r1 from google).

I've set the SDK in eclipse and also added it to the PATH environment variable (I'm running Win XP SP2) and have entered the necessary Run configurations settings in eclipse.

Yet trying to open each of the sample projects and create a Hello Android project of my own consistently gets the following error from eclipse: R cannot be resolved.

I still don't know much about the framework but have read that the R.java is suppose to be generated automatically. Eclipse suggests adding an import to android.R, but the tutorial I'm reading seems to have no such import and even if I add the import the problem persist as the 'main' class simply isn't there.

I've changed the relevant code so to omit the use of the R class from this:

public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main);

to this:

TextView tv = new TextView(this); tv.setText("Hello, Android"); setContentView(tv);

While this did make the aforementioned error go away I still couldn't run the project since eclipse doesn't seem to work well with the ADT plugin (that's my guess at least) and the doesn't build the project.

When I Run it I get the following output on the console:

[2009-03-08 09:19:09 - Hello Android] ---------------------- [2009-03-08 09:19:09 - Hello Android] Android Launch! [2009-03-08 09:19:09 - Hello Android] adb is running normally. [2009-03-08 09:19:09 - Hello Android] Could not find Hello Android.apk!

The emulatore doesn't start of course. It seems to me like there's a problem with the ADT and Eclipse so that the projects aren't created properly (that R.java file is suppose to be created automatically according to what I've read).

HTC EVO 4G :: Bluetooth Car Integration Thread

Jun 5, 2010

Figured I start this to get folk's perspective on what cars work well with the EVO in terms of bluetooth integration. If you have success or not pairing your phone, let us know. I'll kick it off:

08 BMW 335 - Handsfree works great with all options. Simple as all get-out to pair. Phonebook imported easily and caller-ID info passes fine for incoming calls. Transfering to-from bluetooth to handset back to bluetooth worked without issue. BMW doesn't support A2DP or SMS profiles on the 3 series unfortunately.

07 Acura MDX - Handsfree works great. Real clear calls but the pairing process hurts my brain just thinking about it. Even though it says to put your phone in 'Discovery Mode', you have to do the opposite and 'Scan for Devices' on the EVO for it to work. Phonebook will not import no matter what I tried the first time around. You have to attempt multiple times until you get a notification area authorization request on the EVO and after you click 'Allow' it will import the phonebook the next time around (its an Acura thing honestly). AcuraLink does not work at all.

Android :: New OMX Component Integration Into Opencore

Aug 2, 2010

I am trying to integrate VP8 video codec into PV opencore FW in Froyo & test at PV test application level. I have done the following steps, 1. Made a new folder for vp8 @ external/opencore/codecs_v2/omx/ omx_vp8. 2. Made appropriate modifications in the omx_baseclass, omx_common etc. 3. Modified the PV test app (external/opencore/codecs_v2/omx/ omx_testapp) for testing VP8. 4. included the VP8 source code to froyo. 5. Included new oscluuid for VP8 With these modifications, the build is fine. The shared libraries and binaries are creating properly. Also OMX-MasterInit is passing. But the application fails at OMX_GetHandle(). *pHandle is coming as zero. I am using the PV OMX core. I am just adding a new codec which is not supported by PV Opencore and test at PV test_app level. Can you please answer my below queries: 1. Do we need to change the pvplayer.cfg file? Bcoz i am using the PC omx_core itself. 2. Any other changes needs to be done for integrating a new component into Opencore? Please provide you valuable inputs. Let me know if need any additional informations.

Android :: Facebook And Twitter Integration

Mar 16, 2010

I'm talking about apps that allow you to post things up on Twitter or Facebook from data you generate in the app (i.e. high scores, achievements, or results).

We put this into our How Am I Feeling? app but very few people seem to be using it - at least that I can see anyway as I can only track on Twitter.

What makes you want to announce what you did? Is it entirely an afterthought or just something you try once or twice and then forget about?

Motorola Droid X :: Facebook Integration

Sep 10, 2010

As I wait for my Droid X to arrive (in a few days) Im concerned about some banter I saw on another forum about Droid X integration with Facebook / Contacts' and that it was "bad"

I currently have HTC Hero and love how facebook and gmail contacts integrate. You can choose which contacts are linked and it doesnt merge FB people if i dont have them in GMAIL. Like the facebook photos populating the contact and access to FB albums and statuses for my gmail contacts. It works really well.

But this banter I heard on Droid X indicated the motorola ver of this social integration is not so ellegant. That it merges all facebook contacts and something about if you use backup manager it saves new contacts to the phone NOT to Gmail!

This concerns me as I love the elegance of all contacts being in GMAIL. Can someone with a droid x who perhaps came from HTC Sense explain how contact management with facebook is different? Is it "Bad"?

HTC Magic :: Facebook And Contact Integration

I've had a HTC Magic for around a year now and overall I'm happy with it. The only issue I have is the Facebook integration. That in there isn't any really.

I want to have all my contacts linked to facebook so I can see their Photos/status updates etc against their name.

I know it's a major feature of the Hero and the sense UI but there must be a decent app out there that does the same?

I tried to use Addressbook and Facebook mix in from Asurion and it workd quite well but continually force close when using it as a dialler.

Android :: No Contact/Calendar Integration At All?

Aug 6, 2010

Considering the access Google has to programming genius and all of the brilliant coders out there developing apps and hacks, one thing never ceases to amaze me.

The utter lack of any integration between Google Calendar and Google Contacts.

You would think that you could just go to a Contact Record and from that record click on a button to create a Calendar Event. A link would then be created so you could easily call, email, message or navigate to the Contact for whom the event was created.

But no. You can't. Really, to me, this is remarkable for its lameness.

If you want to add email addresses of attendees to a meeting in Google Calendar, you must type them in from memory! There is no button to click which lets you select from a list of your Contacts and have the email control populated automatically. This, my friends, is PATHETIC.

Palm did this well 10 years ago.

C'mon Google, seriously, what the heck is up with that?

There is just one app that comes close to getting this right, "ContactEvent" and it's free in the Marketplace. Still, that is only half of what the functionality should be.
