HTC EVO 4G :: Check Phone Is Refurbish / Secret Menu - Location To Do?
Jun 24, 2010
I'm about to return my phone because of LED backlight issues. Is there anyway to check the phone to see if it was a refurb? I know for windows phones, I'm able to check within the system binaries to see if it's a refurbish unit. I was wondering if there's any secret menu or location to check this information.

I wanna background service which is looking every minute for the location.
So I created a service and created a broadcast receiver connected to the alarm service.
That works generally fine.
Now I wanna check the Location in that Service, I have a Service which is looking first for "gps" and if not available then for "network" location. That works fine!
Now my confusing case: If I am at home and connected to the WLAN the Location is found every minute and give me an notification in android bar all is fine!
But if I am on street and go around it doesnt work. The Service is just running when I touch the screen and make it active, then the service starts and gives me the location.
Why the service just works at street when I have the screen active? And at home in my WLAN it works always even the screen is not active.

I have a ListView with a ContextMenu, it has one CheckBox (the CheckBox has android:focusable="false") and one TextView per row, but you can hide the TextView in the preferences menu. After doing that, the CheckBox wasn't registering the ContextMenu, so of course, why not register For Context Menu(cb) and unregisterForContextMenu(getListView())? Yes, i did that, but then, when when i call the delete command of onContextItemSelected, the app crashs. AdapterContextMenuInfo info=(AdapterContextMenuInfo)item.getMenuInfo(); db.deletarTarefa(info.id);

I know how to get the calculated GPS position via getLastKnownLocation (). As tests show, this function really always returns the last known location, so it doesn't matter if there is a gps fix available.
How can i check if the returned location is reliable? I tried it with getAccurracy(), but this function even returns a accurracy although no gps fix is availavle (anymore). Is there a possibility to get gps dop values? Used SDK is 1.6.

When I tried to activate my phone, it wouldn't work. So I called Verizon from my landline and I told them and they had me activate it manually. They had me type in some random string of numbers to the phone dial pad and it took me to a screen where I set my phone's ID and other stuff manually (that the activation call would do automatically). I'm just curious as to what's in here. Does anyone remember the number? I can't remember it for the love of me and it's not in my call log.

How can I check for GPS support in-App to add a feature for those with Location services enabled?My concern is, I know I'd have to specify the tag in the manifest to declare that the app uses location services, but I still want the app to function for those without. I just want to check and, if the service is available, use it; otherwise just ignore that one feature.

My application needs to perform some activities in background (like interacting with the network and check the location and some other stuff), having or not the main activity visible. Which is the best way to achieve this? Should I write a service for each kind of job? Or just one service that performs everything? I am aware that I will need to launch threads / asynctasks in any case because the service runs on the same thread of the UI, but maybe having several services is a more clear and readable structure.

In my application has a ListView. When long press on item the "Context Menu" will appear. I want to check the data ID, then set disable/enable to my Context Menu "Items". I can not find out the function like getMenuInfo() or something like this.
@Override
public void onCreateContextMenu(ContextMenu menu , View v, ContextMenuInfo menuInfo)
{ super.onCreateContextMenu(menu, v, menuInfo);
menu.add(0, ADD_FAVORITE_ID, 0, "Check");
menu.add(0, ADD_FAVORITE_ID, 0, "UnCheck").setEnabled(false);}

My Android application uses a secret key to generate a token for authentication purposes. Is there a more secure way to store this than just putting this in the data store? I think for the iPhone, we store it in the keychain. I am aware of android.accounts.AccountManager, but this seems to give other applications potentially the ability to access the password (if the user selects the wrong option) and so seems less secure.

I'm searching for some messenger with strong privacy and "secret" features. Better explained, I've found Telegram as a good alternative to Whatsapp with its encryption features, but it lacks one thing that I really need: I'd like to keep some chat very private: it will be very useful if the conversation had some kind of PIN-password-pattern unlocking features.
This is possible for sms (Handcent, for example), but I haven't found it in any Messenger service.

I'm trying to view my AAA password on my ZTE Warp but haven't been able to find a method that will work. I've tried the usual methods: 1) QXDM via the command "requestnvitemread ds_mip_ss_user_prof". Results in "error response received from target". 2) QPST EFS Explorer, but the nvm folder is locked so I cannot access. 3) CDMA Workshop via reading nv items, but 466 and 1192 both show "Access denied".

I cannot take credit for this as it's mentioned in multiple threads here, I would just like to bring it to the attention of anyone that doesn't already know.Disabling APN when not required has allowed my phone to run for 3 days and still be at 70% battery.To disable APN I installed the app WiSyncPlus from the app store.This app can be used for controlling network/data access on your phone in multiple ways, but all I use is the very simple APN toggle widget.I only toggle APN on when I require data access for web/email/market etc. then switch it straight back off. When APN is off you can still use the handset as an old school phone, for calls and texting, but not mms.There are multiple options in this app for controlling syncing etc. very much worth a look if you use your phone for email too.I also have my Samsung switchers widget app next to the APN widget, so if I have a wifi connection available I use this instead of enabling APN to surf the web etc.There is also a free app called APNDroid that can disable APN but I haven't tried this so can't comment on it's usability.

Can anyone provide one of those developer codes everyone is using for the GPS, instead to change the Max earpiece volume in the phones ear speaker to a higher setting? I was in a loud setting today and I could barely her my conversations. I know this is possible because I did it like five years ago on a Motorola razor...surely this android phone can have volume algorithm changes also.

Menu - Settings - Location - Enable GPS satellites
It states that enabling this will "require more battery plus view of sky"
When checked, it states "deselect to conserve battery"
So, the question is, should this be enabled?
I imagine for some applications, knowing your precise location should be useful, especially if the turn-by-turn maps are installed and used.
I'm thinking to deselect this, and selecting it at times when I need it.
So, to check or not to check?

I'm with VF, luckily I didn't get the dreaded OTA last week. My phone is totally unbranded, so I'm wondering if it will let me install 2.2 manually without the need for a goldcard and all the messing about. is there an easy way to check ? I don't want to attempt an install for it to screw up and brick the phone.

I was having trackball issues on my Eris AGAIN. I called verizon for the second time to get a second replacement phone for the same issue. They are sending me an Incredible!
Now, before I send my Eris in, I just want to be absolutely sure there is nothing on my phone that indicates that it was rooted. Does anyone know what all they check? What can I check on it? Under settings, network, the operator name is unknown. Is that the same for stock phones? Or when I unrooted it, could that have cleared that out?
