Can the Eris do the Navigation like the moto Droid does?
Found a Eris for free with new account and that fits my price range!
Moto Droid is still $120 out of my range!

Am I correct in thinking that the new update can do Google Maps Navigation? If so how do I download it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been doing a lot of research lately, on this forum as well as others and I read somewhere that someone was able to port google maps navigation to there eris. I can't remember if it was this site or somewhere else. Can anyone confirm this? I also read that the people over at xda-developers were able to get it working on the G1 which I believe is running either android 1.5 or 1.6.

It would be great if we could get this working on our Eris, I really don't care for any of the other 2.0 features besides this.
I've seen more than a few users in the OTA section commenting on the new Navigation Shortcut for Google Maps. This is NOT part of the OTA, per se, but is due to a Google Maps for Mobile update that coincidentally debuted today.

View 5 Replies View RelatedJust got off the phone with two VZW reps who couldn't give me an answer and suggested that I use VZ Navigator since Verizon can support that software, LOL. My Problem: Used Google Maps Navigator for the first time today. Was using my Motorola Car Dock I purchased and got the address put in and everything then tapped "Navigate". Si there I am and have my nice map view of the route I'm taking and every 30 or so seconds it would flip to a grey screen with multiple tiered options, first of which was "my location" and the address. Below that was the option to tap "Navigate" again which took me back to the map view as it should be. Problem is that it just kept popping back into the grey tier screen every 30 or so seconds. I took it off the dock and this doesn't seem to be happening while not on the dock although I get another message telling me to detach the charger from the wall to conserve battery...WTF? After speaking in depth with VZW reps they seem clueless. First rep told me to try and uninstall Google maps and reinstall (which come to find out I can't do after speaking to the second rep) while the second rep seemed to want to glorify his Droid Incredible and how great it was over the Droid X. he offered to reset my phone but advised I would have to sync all my contacts again, redo all my widgets and reconfigure all my e-mail addresses. Anybody else experiencing this problem with the car Dock and Google Navigation?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMaps vs. Navigator vs. Navigation. didn't find anything that compared the 3 stock options that the 2.1 OTA gave us. So far I have been using Navigation (the blue arrow icon) and i think it works extremely well, it give voice directions while the program runs in the background and your phone is "sleeping" so thats a big plus for me. I didn't see a voice option on Maps, or Navigator but i may be missing something. Navigator looks cool, but doesnt seem to have any bells and whistles that I need. My wife uses Maps and she is happy with what it does. What are your experiences with these 3 options?

I've found on the net it can be done with this intent : Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("geo:"+lat +","+lng)); where lat and lng are the latitude and longitude. I like no-map Garmin GPS handy navigators, so I created software, that has most functions of such navigator. TripComputer records tracks of your trips and stores your interesting waypoints. You can view them on map view, see stats like distances, speed, time, altitute graph, bearing, azimuth, and many more. Also, if you have internet connection, you can send your selected waypoints and find waypoints sent by others,to use in you own trips.
At this time, TripComputer does not use maps - because in off-road areas, maps are useless. However, topo maps will be supported in future versions. Also, I'm working on GPX files and some geocaching support.
I just got my replacement DINC and I can't seem to find the Navigation app to put on my homescreen. I already have google maps but I had the navigation shortcut on my old DINC and that was handy to have so I can just speak my destination after opening it, and now I can't find it. I have the latest update to Google Maps.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm using the navigation feature in my galaxy s the screen will turn itself off after some time. The time it takes for the back light to turn off vary each time. The time out setting goes from like 10 seconds to 30 mins, there us no option for never. Is there a way to keep it on? Its very frustrating on long journeys when the screen keeps going off.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there any way of changing the voice on these, the synthesised voice is AWFUL. Apart from not being able to pronounce English words correctly (E.g. Kew <queue> said as koo - I can't imagine what is must be like if I had to drive down Gloucester or Leicester) it's soooooo grating and harsh on my lugs.I've tried both English and American English settings but both are as bad as each other.Is there a download for new voices or one in the pipeline?I'm shocked this passed Google's quality control!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 versions it seems of Google Maps. 1 goes straight to he map after tapping the icon, 1 have a blue "Navigation" logo and load bar below it. The latter kept saying "unable to reach your destination" or something like that, so I slid it to trash. I'm trying to find out how to get Google Maps WITH turn-by-turn navigation. Ever since I moved that one icon to trash, I can't seem to get the one that has that blue Navigation load screen.

So my question is can you?if yes how, if not when can you? or is it always going to require your data signal and download as you use? Also noticed someone mention that they did not like the voice for the sat nav only for some smart arse to simply reply, change it. I have a had a look and cant see how you can, so maybe said smart arse can enlighten us all
I know HTC have added their own 'offline' maps application, which I am quite interested in, I am however wondering if plain old Google Maps, Navigation and most of all Latitude are still present / working?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am REALLY impressed with the google maps navigation on my Desire, I have a TomTom and pay for maps quarterly and it's up to date but still does not know about the 4 new roads where i live and one is a few miles long. However Google Navigation knew about the new roads (1 extra before i knew, let alone tomtom)
How can they offer such great navigation for free when i have just paid ?74 for my tom tom map update and it's still out of date.! if htc/google can fix the issue of calls via blutooth whilst using HTC desire for navigation i tell you TOMTOM are history and thats hard to say after all these years!
I went to put in an address this morning in google navigation to use for the first time and it had several addresses cached that I had searched on my laptop when looking up stuff on google maps. How do I clear these cached addresses out of my phone?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI rooted my phone with Unrevoked3 the Unrevoked Forever. I used my GPS and Navigation to a friends house. It worked great! Then I flashed to the OTA official ROM. Didnt change any setting. My GPS is set on. Under the "LOCATION" setting..everything is checked.
Now I can go to Google Maps and then get my location and then search and stuff. I can even get direction to places. However, when I hit NAVIGATE...all I get is "SEARCHING FOR GPS..." And it would be stuck at the screen for the longest time without going into the Turn-by-turn direction. I turned off my GPS and turned it backed on again...NOTHING! I just adjust the setting...nothing. I even factory reset the phone and getting the same message when I use the navigation feature.
I also notice that the GPS location is not accurate at all...a lot worst than before. This is very annoying since I can use my turn by turn direction. I tried uninstall but the phone wouldnt let me. Since im rooted is there anything I can do?
I'll be gettin a Desire in July when US Cellular gets it. I've read that the Desire does not have voice search like the Nexus One and Moto Droid. Will GMN still have voice search for finding places?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI live in Sweden and the application is on my phone, but does not work. That is odd because it doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to do, especially if Google Maps already gives turn-by-turn directions. I'm guessing it might have to do with the language or pronunciation of the streets. I don't mind using it in English, though.
