I'm having a bit of bother setting up email on my phone! Can anyone give me a simple step by step guide to setting it up please?
what a nightmare trying to setup yahoo email. I have figured it out. Now I am based in Canada and have a yahoo.ca email though this should work for any yahoo account
1. Startup htc desire
2. hit mail, then POP
3. Add email and password ( make sure wifi is on ) and hit next ( dont do manual )
4. Your setting up a POP email, so in the incoming set it to.............
so I'm new to the whole Smartphone thing (my last phone didn't even go on the internet!) so I don't know if I'm missing something really obvious but anyway. I'm trying to se up both my hotmail and yahoomail email accounts so as I can view my messages on my Desire but I'm not having any luck. When I go into Messages and enter my email and correct password I keep getting the message: 'Cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information. Your server is not responding'.What do I have to do to sort this out? The HTC Desire online manual is very vague and brief with anything regarding troubleshooting.

I notice its going to grab all the new emails and it doesn't let you view your old ones, you would have to go into the Internet and into the email account to see those old ones. Also I want to prevent it from syncing with my email too often and only want to manually pull in my email.

GroupWise IMAP
Configure Your IMAP Client
Configure your IMAP client using these specifications:
imaps.luc.edu is your "Inbound Mail," "INBOX server" or "Incoming E-mail server"
993 is your "Port", for INBOX server Port," or "Incoming E-mail server Port"
SSL is your security setting.
mail.luc.edu is your "Outbound Mail," "SMTP gateway," or
"Outgoing E-mail server" if Loyola is your Internet provider (see note below)
your Loyola Computer ID is your username
the client should check for new e-mail every 10 (or more) minutes
Note: If you do not connect to the Internet through Loyola, your "Outbound Mail" or "Outgoing E-mail server" specification will NOT be mail.luc.edu. Check with your Internet service provider for the correct specification. The outgoing email settings must be incorrect. After fooling around, I managed to make it work so that I can read my university email with email app but responses to said emails will end up going through my gmail account. I want to be able to send outgoing messages through my university address as well. It should be possible seeing as my university is offering IMAP functionality, plus my girlfriend goes to the same school and her Blackberry is synced up with the email server perfectly.
How do you change the setting for how long an email can stay on your phone? Also, how can you set it, so you can delete the email from your phone, but keep it on the server.

View 11 Replies View RelatedJust got HTC Desire on eBay. Seems new as advertised and certainly all cables charger etc. in original packaging. The manual; says that when I switch on for the first time quote 'the phone displays tutorials and guides you to set up your email accounts and favorite social networks such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. You can follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup, or skip the setup and do it at another time. This didn't happen when I switched on. Will it happen if I do a factory reset?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am concerned that were something to happen to my phone, an HTC Desire, during updates and app installs for instance, that I would lose everything. So my simple question is, how can you back up a froyo HTC Desire phone?
I am aware that the Privacy -> Backup option has mysteriously disappeared from the Settings menu, and that in order to see it, you need to do the following:
Menu -> Settings -> Search -> Searchable Items ->
- Web (untick)
- Settings (tick)
Now, you need to click the Search button and search for Privacy. You should then see the Privacy- HTC global search item.
Select this and Backup and Restore appears, with the following options:
- Back up my settings
- Automatic restore
Some questions I have relating to this missing feature are:
- Why is this setting completely hidden? Are we not supposed to use it?
- Does it actually work? Has anyone successfully used it?
- When you select to Back up my settings nothing appears to happen. The phone does not appear to start syncing, so how do you know if anything has been backed up? How long should you wait after selecting the option before knowing that you have a backup available?
- Where is the data stored? Can you verify it?
I find it rather strange that I cannot find the answers to these questions in the public domain, so I am asking them here, in case anyone has any insights into it all.
Ignoring the above "missing" option, are there any other ways to successfully back up my phone using 3rd party apps? Which ones work with froyo?
Does anyone know if there is a app, or phone mod that allows you to access the SD Card on the phone, at the same time as it's being used as a drive.I'm getting tired of transferring things like icons, and wallpaper to my phone, then having to unmount the drive before I can use them. Especially if I'm just trying out new icons. Is it possible to have my desire set to disk drive, and access it at the same time?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have three email accounts set up on my phone, one gmail and two hotmail accounts. Today, for some reason, my phone shows one of the hotmail accounts with a new email that was actually received by the other hotmail account.I am unable to open this message and when I try to delete it, the email app force closes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to change the email address the phone is set up to. But I have a niggling suspicion doing so requires a factory reset. First things first, please tell me if that's wrong and I'll be happy. If however I'm right, What's the best way to go about saving everything? If I download a backup program, will it store all my settings, apps etc or just data on the SD card? And will changing the email address bugger something up and stop me from restoring the backup? I wouldn't put it past google.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI succeeded in setting up exchange email on my nexus one.The things that bothers me a bit is that I can only select to sync emails from the last week/month/etc.In some cases I want to look at an old email to perform my work. It's great how with IMAP email you can scroll down and just press a button to read more emails. Is there anything similar for exchange? Or at least some workaround?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I first got my Evo, I had no problems setting up the HTC mail client with my work email, using Exchange. Due to random restarts, I had to do a hard reset, and now I keep getting "Failed to create the account. Please try again later." This has been happening for the past few days since I did the hard reset.
When I initially set it up, I just put in my work email and password and had no problems. Now, I've tried every configuration possible in both normal and manual setup. Anyone got any other ideas?
I have searched but cant seem to find any of the incoming/outgoing settings.anyone got them please?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 3 email applications on my GarminAsus A50:
> Default email client
> Gmail
> K9 email client
All three have been setup with email accounts.
Is there a way to set K9 as my preferred email app? Because everytime I receive an email, I get three sets of notifications (one from each app)
For the moment I've disabled the email notifications from Gmail and the default mail, but they still run in the background checking for messages which is really just a waste of CPU power and battery life.
Anything to keep them from running at all?
I have a customer that needs to get their comcast email setup on Motorola Droid. This seems to be an issue. First off let me give you the settings I am using.
Incoming:
1.Customer username - does not have @comcast behind it
2.their password
3. port 110
4. mail.comcast.net
5. Security type None
Outgoing
1.smtp.comcast.net
2.587 port
3.security None
I have also tried other random settings. The best I have gotten this to work is that it receives one email at a time. A couple of minutes later you click refrest and even that message is gone.I have even tried m.comcast.net for the customer and that website shows you have 2 new mail. But after you click on it once and back out there is no way to see the messages again.
Is it possible to get a notification when an email comes in that is not the default notification tone or do you I need to use another email program. If so what do you recommend?

Is this correct? Do all email accounts go through a Motorola server? The same thing happens with setting up Facebook, MySpace and other services.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had my Ally for about a week now, and I'm absolutely loving it! I previously had the enV 2 from LG, so there is a lot of familiarity there. One thing I have not yet been able to figure out is how to create a signature for my email. I have the default g mail acct (I created one specifically for the phone), but I also added a hot mail acct and a private domain web acct. On my enV 2 I was able to figure out how to set up the signature for that typical "Sent from my Verizon Wireless Phone" at the bottom. I would like to do the same for the additional email accounts but can't find a setting for it. does it just not exist, or am i looking in the wrong place?

View 18 Replies View Relatedcan you have separate sounds for email and txt messages? Currently seems to be lumped together.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSeems like it should be pretty straightforward. In the main menu I chose "email" and added my pop servers URL and the next line asks for the password which I entered however it will not let me highlight either the "manual set up" or the "next" icons in a gray bar just below the password box. Tried it several times now. Certainly a Droid should be able to handle pop server mail??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've setup the stock email app to show emails from my home address using settings specified by my ISP (Plus.net).
I've recently upgraded my phone from a HTC desire running Android 2.2 which allowed me to specify how many days worth of emails it would retrieve.
I've been trying to find a similar setting on the stock email without success, and wondered if this was possible?
