HTC Desire :: Phone Running Low On Memory / What To Do?

Sep 12, 2010

My phone storage on my HTC Desire seems to be permanently full up, I know there's things like the Internet cache and contacts that are growing all the time but I should still have enough room for other stuff. I've installed and moved all apps to my sd card, I only have 35 or so and there all fairly small little apps but I use them all.

Yet I am always getting the phone is running low on memory message, so I cant install anything from the app store. Thing is I still have 11.55 mb of phone memory but I feel I should have loads more, there's only really a few things taking up memory from what I can see in my apps because everything else is on my sd card.

Contacts Storage: 17.34mb
Flash Player 10.1 : 12.39mb
Maps ; 7.75mb
Swype: 5.96mb
Facebook: 3.80mb
Voice Search: 2.57mb
HTC Sense : 2.30mb
Internet : 2.39mb

Everything else is all really under 1mb. Is there some other files or something lurking on my phone memory that shouldn't be there?

HTC Desire :: Running Services - Memory Info

May 29, 2010

We have a info bar at the bottom of the following menu: Settings > Applications > Running Services

Avail: XXXMB+X.XXB in XYZ_____________________Other: X.XXB in XYZ

Is anyone able to explain what XXX and XYZ are please? I am guessing XXX = memory taken up and XYZ = number of processes?

But it doesn't make sense to say: Avail: 32MB + 0.00B in 31 processes

What are considered 'good', 'bad' and optimal figures here?

HTC Desire :: Phone Run Out Of Memory

May 30, 2010

I got my phone yesterday and been playing with it since. Good bits-going on the net is quick, clear and very smooth. Customizing is very good. Bad bits-would have thought it would come with a video player that could play any type of format. I can't put apps onto mem card, thought the hole point of being able to put a large size mem card into the phone was so you could put all the extras onto the card. This is the main let down for me, got some apps on the phone last night then the phone said it had run out memory. I've seen that rooting can change this but don't fancy voiding my warranty. Wonder if a future update would cover this.

I have had my desire for one week now and have been playing around with apps etc (first android phone)I got a message today saying my phone memory was low (at one point i couldn't install an app. I have always uninstalled apps that i do not want and i have also moved as many as will allow to the SD card. HTC Desire :: Internal Phone Storage Running Very Low

Apr 19, 2010

I have a major issue with my Desire. I've been keeping an eye on the amount of Internal Phone Storage space I have left as it's running very low and I've noticed that if I install an application and then uninstall it not all of the space is freed up. I've tried rebooting and that does not help. I don't want to go down the path of do a factory reset and restoring my apps but I can't think of any other way round it. Does anyone know which folder on the phone applications are installed to? I've found the system apps in /system/app but I'd like to check to see if there's anything left behind from applications that I've uninstalled as a last resort.

HTC Desire :: Battery Needs Charging So Often - Phone Memory Full

Jul 14, 2010

I have had my Desire for about 3 week snow. I absolutely loved it at first but am becoming increasingly frustrated. Main problem is the battery needs charging so often. I have done all the things suggested, dimmed lights, changed wall paper, turned off internet etc., but after playing a few games and making a couple of calls back to the charger it goes.

Now, today I went to send an sms and it says phone is full and won't let me send a text.! What's with that? 3 weeks old and it's full? I'm in shock. I have deleted as many msgs as I can and deleted some apps I don't use but still I can't send a text or open one. I really don't know what I can delete and now think this is going to be an eternal problem. This phone has turned from a huge delight to a huge disappointment for me and I haven't even paid my first bill.

HTC Desire :: Phone Not Recognize Micro SDHC 8GB Memory Card

Jul 4, 2010

However, I formatted the 8GB card in windows, (to fat 32). (I've might have formatted the partitions and everything as well). But either the Desire or PC cant find my SD card at this point. When I put the 8gb card into my N85 and then connect the N85 to my PC, the computer finds it. My N85 has no problem locating the SD card either. HTC Desire :: Added Contacts On Phone Memory And Synced With Facebook

May 10, 2010

I've had my (generic) Desire for a few weeks now, and have a really nagging/annoying problem in that, where i've added contacts (on the phone memory) and then synced with facebook, it's pulling in their mobile phone number from facebook, but is defaulting to 447584... and will not let me call the contact without first editing the number to read 07584...

The only way around this so far as i can tell, is to manually add the number again as a 'Home' number but with a 0 in place of 44, as re-adding as a mobile just defaults back to the 447584... and then assigning the 'Home' number as the primary contact number. Does anyone have any ideas whether this is a bug or something i've done myself, and also whether there is a way i can update my whole phonebook to change the 44's for 0's rather than manually going through and changing them?

HTC Incredible :: Available Memory Under Running Apps

May 13, 2010

I just got my Incredible a few days ago and I'm still learning it. So far its much better than my old Blackberry. I just have a question as to if this is normal or if I have a defective phone. When I got into running apps under settings its shows on the bottom (the numbers of course vary) Avail: 64+219 in 25 and Other 60mb in 4. As soon as I open then browser and go back and check it goes to Avail: 58mb+0.00b in 25 and Other: 0.00b in 4. I checked my fiancee's Moto Droid and it isn't doing this. Is it normal with the Incredible or is my phone defective?

Android :: How To Keep From Running Out Of Memory On Graphics For App

May 10, 2010

I've been working on an Android app in Eclipse, and so far, my program hasn't really grown past midget size. However I've already run into an issue with an Out of Memory error. You see, I've been using graphics comprised solely of bitmaps and PNGs in this program, and recently, when I tried to add a little bit more functionality to the program (mainly including a few more bitmaps and causing an extra sprite to be created), it started crashing in the graphics thread's constructor -> sprite's constructor. When I tracked the problem down, it turned out to be an Out of Memory error that is seemingly caused by adding too many picture files to the program and creating Drawables out of them.

This would be a problem, as I really don't have that many picture resources worked into that program...maybe 20 or so. I haven't even started to include sound yet. These images aren't all that fancy. My questions are this:

1) Are programs for the Android phone really that limited on how much memory they can employ, or is it probably something other than the 20-30 resource pictures causing that error?

2) If the memory for Android apps is so awful it can't even handle 20-30 picture resources being loaded into Drawables that exist at the same time, then how in the world are you supposed to make decent graphics and sound for that thing?

HTC Incredible :: Memory Leak / No Applications Running

May 3, 2010

When I first boot up the phone and check the memory (after shutting down all the apps I don't want running) I notice my phone has about 220-250 MB free after leaving the phone on for about 2-3 hours, with no activity on my part, that number gets smaller and smaller. I just rebooted my phone again because it was down to 125 MB free with no applications running.

Also, "Android System" is consuming 65% of my battery life. I realize that number is inaccurate after a fresh reboot so I played with the phone for a good 4 hours running apps and such, so that I could get a good test of how much the OS is eating up in comparison to other apps. 65% is a bit much no?

This seems like a fairly straightforward application (display a gallery of thumbnails from the web), can some give me advice on how to reduce my memory needs?
