I have quite a few tv shows in .avi format. I used to be able to watch em on my old phone and expected to be able to do so on the desire; unfortunately, I can't. Is there a player or something I can get to do so?

Basically I just want to know if there's any apps available that will allow me to watch video files on my Desire over my home WiFi network.
Ok, here's a head scratcher.
Situation: I use an iRiver S10 MP3 player (2GB) when riding. Normally if Im going on a long ride (a few days) I will need to take my notebook along if I want to change songs on the player.
So, what Im trying to work out is this. Is there a way to transfer MP3s from my Desire's SD card to the S10 via USB (maybe using a USB Data Transfer cable and the required adaptors?).
Any ideas/suggestions? Could it be possible?
I'm still trying to get to grips with the folder/filing system of the Desire's SD card. I have yet to put any of my own MP3's onto the phone but have put on a few short audio clips which I created at work. These were on the phone mainly so I could transport them home but I also occasionally play them from the phone. However I don't want them cropping up amongst music in the music player app/widget, but it seems no matter where I put them on the SD card they appear. The only exception is if I put them in media => ringtones which isn't ideal. Are there any other places where i can put them where they won't be found by the media player?

I also don't see an option in menu section for video or movie? With my samsung it was easy, as the PC studio software left you drag and drop movies in, it converted them, and then went straight into the phones movie folder. Desire seems very different?

This looks like not integrated with Android framework layer through JNI. So music app does not have any knowledge of this file type ..
Other threads say that adding mp3 files to the phone shouldn't slow it down. I have only 1gb of songs on the int memory - and the music player seems to take a good 20-30 seconds to read & list what's there every time I start it. is this normal?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung Galaxy I7500 using android 1.5. I extended my phone with a 16GB microSD. I copied a big music collection (around 800 files) into a folder on this SD. Now the problem is that the music player can't find all the files.
I know that there are several threads about android not finding music. The answers are usually that the library hasn't yet been updated or that the ID3 tags are not correct.
I have checked both.
Btw. I can play the files using ASTRO.
In my opinion it seems as if android can't build up a library with too many entries. If I rename the files or put them into different folders, songs disappear and reappear quite randomly.
Do you have any solutions? Is there a music player which doesn't use the native music players index of files?

One feature that's bugging me on the Desire, the default application for Youtube videos seems to be the HTC Flash Player, but I don't want to use this. I would prefer it if it opened with the Youtube player so I can get high quality video when viewing Youtube clips on WIFI - the HTC Flash Player has no settings or option for video quality improvement.
On my G1, every time I opened a link for Youtube (from e.g. the browser or Seesmic), it opened up the Youtube application as the default viewer.
Am I right in thinking that the Music Player on the Desire is HTC's own?
Is there a default Android player?
I only ask as I think the current one that is default installed on the phone is poor, very poor. I use another app to play podcasts and even with the 'hide podcasts from default player' option ticked, they still show up in the music player.
is there any way of managing/deleting files (eg PDFs that you download) on the SD card from the phone itself ? ie can you do it without connecting to a PC and mounting as disk drive ?Also - just bought a 16gb SD card and it seems like the speed of access/saving photos and transferring music from PC is much slower than with the 4GB card that came with the phone.
