HTC Desire :: Need App To Play Live Internet Radio Stream
May 19, 2010
Are there any free apps out there that play live streams I.E audio or video when clicking on a link while surfing the Internet on the htc desire? I'm trying to listen to an Internet radio stream that isn't listed in all those android apps that you can download like XiiaLive Lite. On the PC you would go to the radio station website and click on the listen now link and windows media player or realplayer would pop up and play the stream. Is there anything similar on android that just plays the link?

I've been through the tutorials, and have started on the learning curve, however when I try any combination of examples available that promise to stream audio I have run into problems, the main one being syntax.
Im using Eclipse on ubuntu, and the end target is 2.1 (ZTE racer).

Having been optimistic that I would finally be able to use all the fancy bits of the internet with my Desire, I find myself somewhat nobbled. I am particularly interested in using the BBC site - but I can't access any audio, video or iplayer from my phone. Beebplayer worked once, literally, but can now only access radio stations. I have done some reading and understand that:the BBC haven't yet released a proper Android app. the Flash lite that comes with 2.1 may not work with everything, some people have found incompatibility issues with T-mobile. I appreciate that BBC is not the only fruit, but for a user of a multi-media phone, I find it crazy that I can't use their site properly. I don't appear to be able to access any live TV or news streaming elsewhere either. My phone is not a fashion accessory - I bought it because I wanted a phone and reliable and quick access to news (in different forms), without the premium of an iPhone. It's so frustrating, I feel like I've bought the wrong phone, even though I know it's not really the handset itself that's the problem! After all, it is marketed as having Flash and being more than able to cope with multi media on the internet. but apparently not for everyone. Whilst waiting for Android 2.2, the BBC, T-mobile... or whatever else needs updating. what can I do?

I bought this as I wanted to play last.fm from my HTC Desire via the in car speaker system.
As I have the kit to mount the Desire in the car (for Google Navigation) it was a straight swap of one charger for another.
You set a station on the radio and the sound from your phone is transmitted to the the car radio. A great product that is simple to use and just works. The sound quality is good and I am very happy with this product.
Note: Very slight hiss if you crank up the radio too much, better to increase the volume on the phone first.

I just got my Droid but I frequently use Pandora and Last.FM on my computer at work. Last.FM - Seems like the service has a better list of artists than Pandora so i switched to it on my PC recently. On Android the service is the same but as an app it tends to be open in the background all the time and suffers from not being able to pause (like the PC version). The scrobbling could be nice for some users and it links to the android player. Sound Quality seems excellent, best of the three so far. Pandora - Haven't gotten to use it too much because it takes so long to load my station. Sound Quality seemed fine with my limited use.
Slacker Radio - Has the most music options of the three and seems likes the best application. It has plenty of options like keeping the screen from freezing while plugged in and on wifi without having to change your phone settings. Had to stop listening from poor sound quality though! Sound Quality started ok but a bassy boom and click started appearing after a few songs, forced to switch to Last.FM.

Now that we've got (or are about to get) Flash 10.1 on our phones, does anybody have suggestions for websites that let you stream TV over 3g? I've heard channelsurfing.net can work, but I find it usually crashes the stock browser.

I am making a basic activity to stream this live show http://ice2.securenetsystems.net/WHBRM here is the pastebin of my activity http://pastebin.com/N5g69j7i
I realize that it is better to be in a service but this is just a test. Anyways it seems to be working fine except for in froyo my error listener gets an unknown error about every 10 seconds. Infolistener and bufferinglistener are also never called.
my hack of sorts using the errorlistener to catch the error and restart the stream is working but since the error happens every 10 seconds or so it is making the audio very choppy.
I also get a system log that says MediaPlayer error (1, -2147483648) before each crash also AwesomePlayer Not sending buffering status because duration is unknown.
I assume the second error is because its a live stream and it has no end, however how do you handle that case.

We are developing an Android video conferencing application. After examining some already existing live-stream applications , we came to the conclusion that all or almost all existing applications have a delay of 3 to 10 seconds. The application we are developing was tested receiving a video stream on the Android device and the same video stream on VLC at the same time. The result of the test is that VLC shows the same part of the video 2 to 10 seconds earlier than our Android application on the phone(HTC hero) depending on the rtsp link used. we haven't found what is the main cause of the delay and also dont know if it is possible to reduce that delay. In our case, as it comes to video conferencing, the delay should be lower than 2 seconds at least. Do you guys have some information about the cause of the delay or even how to reduce it?

Has anyone been able to stream XM Radio directly from their PC to their phone using XM Tuner or SiriusXMStreamer? I have gotten it to work with Orb, but would prefer to take Orb out of the equation and stream directly from the XM program or use TVersity. Orb streams in a format that uses the camera player, which I do not like. I would prefer an mp3 stream from TVersity, but have not seen where anyone has gotten it to work.

I just watched this video and the guy giving the presentation plugged the EVO into the tv while streaming a video off Youtube. It was almost instantaneous. I just wish he wouldn't unplugged it before he went back to the Home page. Do this sort of confirm we will be able to surf the web and do other stuff while connected to the tv?

A friend of mine with a Samsung Omnia showed me a way on his phone last night to search for live audio. He quickly did a search on Chicago Bears and found 3 stations during the Monday Night Football game where we could listen to live audio. I wonder if the G1 could do some sort of streaming audio via a radio station.
