General :: Making Online Transaction With Android Device Using Different Browsers?

Apr 1, 2012

If I wanted to make an online transaction with my Android device and I was using a browser other than stock (e.g. Overskreen), then would my card details (used to complete the transaction) be at a safety risk due to the fact that I have made the transaction in a browser which is owned by a developer and so would he have access to these details and the like? General :: Where To View Google Wallet Transaction History Online

Dec 19, 2011

Can you see your Google Wallet app transaction history on the web somewhere? It _looks_ like you should be able to see purchases made using the Google Wallet app at [URL]..., but this page just lists my Google Checkout transactions -- there's no record here of anything I bought using the phone app. As far as I can tell, the only place where I can see any record of those transactions is on the phone itself by selecting "Transactions" in the Google Wallet app. Is there a way to see this stuff online that I'm missing? And if these transactions _are_ only recorded on the phone, will all record of them be erased if/when my phone is wiped?

General :: Rockchip 3066 TV Box - Making Image Of Device For Replicating?

May 27, 2013

Rockchip 3066 TV Box I am working with. The situation is thus:

I have a number of these boxes, 12 in my possession currently with more on the way

I have successfully rooted the boxes through ADB, none of the one click or other methods worked, but rooting through ADB did.

I have tried using rkdump but unfortunately it cannot find the update.img which I assume to mean it doesn't have one.

What I would like to do is setup a box exactly how I want and then image this off and copy the image to the others

As I mentioned, even though it's a Rockhip based chipset, there's no way I can identify to extract any kind of update.img from it. I have seen through other postings that some of the 3066 based boards no longer use the same cramfs file header/structure the previous 2xxx chipset used so this is probably why.

The big thing is, I just want to mirror the setup to other hardware of exactly the same pedigree. Here is the MTD/partition map:

Code:
1|root@android:/dev # cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00400000 00004000 "misc"[code]....
what the precise format of the copy to and from commands should be assuming this is the way to go about it?

There's a number of applications that ship on the box by default too I need to remove as root, and I'd like to automate everything, hence the idea of imaging as opposed to stepping through all the tasks manually.

General :: Android Web Browsers - Cropping Profile Photo In Facebook

Jun 27, 2012

Any web browser where the resize/crop profile photo window in Desktop (full) version of facebook actually works? Seriously, I can not change my friggin fb profile pic because when it asks to drag the edges of the box to crop the photo, it wont do anything. When I touch it and try to drag, it just moves the entire screen around. It wont actually select it...kind of like you do when you click inside a Flash window. I have tried stock browser, Boat, Dolphin HD and Opera. None of them will move or resize the drag box. Im stuck without PC access and have been wanting to change my photo for months but have not been able to. I dont understand this. When I had my Touch Pro 2 with Windows Mobile and used Opera Mobile, I had absolutely no problem dragging that box around.

General :: Any Browsers Other Than Stock JB That Don't Constantly Reload

May 5, 2013

Are there any browsers other than the stock JB browser that don't constantly reload or refresh the pages when you multitask? I imagine I want one that stays persistent in memory. I've had problems with Boat Browser, and Firefox has issues with zooming that drive me nuts. Opera hasn't updated their UK for high PPI devices, so the buttons are too small. I also have this aversion against cloud based browsers.

General :: Dynamic Text Reflow In Browsers

May 19, 2013

I've been testing a whole mess of different browsers, and so far, I've only found three that have dynamic text reflow (by which I mean the text resizes to whatever zoom level you choose): Opera Mobile, Opera Mini and UC Browser, and UC Browser's text reflow is somewhat glitchy and unreliable. Not even Opera Beta has the text reflow.

I'm also aware some browsers have the double-tap after zoom to reflow the text, but I find that generally rather unreliable, too; it sometimes zooms out instead of reflowing.

Why is this? Is there a technical limitation with doing this in Webkit, that Presto made easy or something? Am I wasting my time trying to hunt down a new browser with dynamic text reflow? (Opera Mobile is starting to drag a bit.)

Apr 5, 2012

I'm currently using Firefox 11 as my computer browser, MIUI (GB version) Stock browser on my EVO 3D phone, and ICS Browser+ on my Transformer Prime tablet, and i've come across a problem.

I can't seem to sync my bookmarks properly.

I've been able to easily sync calendar, contacts, etc with my gmail.com account and such, but I absolutely refuse to use Chrome as my browser just for the sync ability.

I'd like to be able to sync between all 3 devices if possible (If not possible, at least sync between Firefox 11 on my computer and ICS Browser+ on my tablet?)

I currently have a lot of problems with this error. I programmed a widget and a service that runs in the background. This service is updating the widget on different occasions (position changed, screen turned on, timer based...) with images and text it's loading from a server. After a couple of updates I always get an error from the JavaBinder, at least that's what DDMS says. Reproducing the problem with my app is quite easy but I just can't figure out what's going on there.

General :: All Browsers Crash Constantly (except Chrome) - Nexus 7

Mar 27, 2013

To put it short: Dolphin Browser started force closing randomly a few days ago. I couldn't get rid of the problem and tested pretty much every browser available for the Android platform. Opera, Firefox, Boat, xScope, Maxthon and so on, they ALL crash. I don't really like Google Chrome, due to its lack of options (no fullscreen etc.)....

Here is what I did:

- uninstalled and reinstalled Dolphin
- rebooted the tablet
- deleted the app cache (also via "wipe cache partition")
- disabled Google Admob
- executed a full factory reset, installed Dolphin first, still crashing

The problem itself is well documented and affects many OS versions, even more devices and every browser. The only workaround is to disable JavaScript, which of course renders many web pages unusable.

Coming from a Blackberry Playbook with its own fair share of browser related crashes, I'm now utterly frustrated with the situation. The first three weeks with my new Nexus 7 felt absolutely perfect.

General :: Browsers Incorrectly Loading Webpages Very Small?

Nov 20, 2012

I'm had a really strange bug/problem in Android for months and I still haven't been able to find the roou cause of it in order to fix it. For some reason the browser is not rendering correctly webpages - the fonts are extremely small and the page is off centered. This is happening only while on 3G/Edge connection - if using WiFi this issue doesn't occur.

This happens with every single browser: Stock Browser, Firefox, Chrome, Dolphin, etc.

I thought this was a ROM specific issue, but I have tried flashing more than 3 ROMs now (every time I've flashed i've done a wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and wipe data/factory reset) with no luck. I also tried formatting the internal SD.

Android :: Remote Service Returning Value From Http Transaction

May 6, 2009

I've been researching how to best implement a service which performs a network transaction and returns data to the caller.

Clearly, this needs to happen on its own thread which means some form of async response. I can see at least three ways of doing this--some more complex than others. In the descriptions below, C is the caller, S is the service.

1) C wraps a Handler in a Messenger object, adds this to an Intent. C then calls startService with this intent. S extends IntentService which runs the Intents received in a worker thread. S then sends a message to C via the Messenger. This has the benefit of not requiring any of the async binding process or making an IDL interface that needs to be compiled into C. This seems to be the closes to a Handler-based response mechanism of Local Services.

2) C binds to S and then uses AsyncTask<> to make a blocking call to S. S performs the network transaction and returns the data in the return value or an out parameter. This requires the async binding process, but does not require a callback function since the inter- thread communications is handled by AsyncTask<> and the worker thread is in C's context.

3) Make the function called in S be completely asynchronous. S defines two interfaces: IMyService and IMyServiceCallback. S implements IMyService.Stub. C implements IMyServiceCallback.Stub. C binds to S then calls S via IMyService, passing its IMyServiceCallback binder. S spins up a worker thread and returns immediately. S then calls the callback when it has completed the network transaction.

I am asking for advice on which methods are most appropriate. I do not need the the service running constantly, only when the web transaction is required. C does not use S all the time--definitely don't want to bind during C's onCreate. However, I would like the time from when C determines it needs to use S to getting the results back to be as quick as possible (i.e. adding minimal latency to the already latent network access).

Is there any preference to having the worker thread in C or in S? Are there any significant problems with option 1?

General :: Samsung Galaxy Pocket (4.0.4) - Block Access To Other Browsers

Aug 1, 2013

Is there a way to block access to browsers? I would like the user of a Samsung galaxy Pocket (version 4.0.4) to be able to access one browser only.

The browser in use has a blacklist filter which block websites, but indeed you can easily bypass it by installing a new browser.

My past attempts: I have searched for a long time but could not find anything that worked. The browsers I have found which can block other browsers are not compatible with this device.

I have also searched for alternative ways of blocking websites though a blacklist but all of those solutions require rooting the device, which I do not have enough technical confidence to do.

Blocking Play store is not either an option since you would be able to install new browsers in other ways.

Android :: Failed Binder Transaction When Passing Byte - From Camera - Between Intents

In the camera intent, I use putExtra to return the camera image (as a byte[] without doing anything to it). But when the program transitions back from the camera intent to the parent intent that called it I get a Failed Binder Transaction error in the logcat because the byte[] is too big. But I don't understand this, because the image is not even taken using the maximum resolution :S

The code of my camera intent is:

Android : Content Provider Vs Direct Database Access - Transaction Management

Aug 7, 2010

I understand, at least on paper, the basic difference between the Content Provider and just directly accessing the SQLiteDatabase. I have a functioning prototype for my application, and currently it is just directly hitting the database. I don't really have any experience using the Content Provider pattern, but I have found out that I will need to share some data with another application.

I will only be sharing about 2 out of a dozen or so tables, so I was wondering if I should be just completely redoing the data layer to follow the Content Provider pattern, or just expose only those tables via a Content Provider for the sake of the other application and still directly access the database in the primary application.

One of the issues I ran into with my prototype was that I have some fairly complex transactions, and the code I wrote to get that working is not designed particularly well and isn't reusable at all. As I add more functionality to this app, I'm going to need a better designed data access layer, before I set off writing my own, does anyone know of any good resources with design patterns for this type of thing already? Also, if I need to go the Content Provider route, am I going to have solid control over the database transactions?

Activity Vars NULL After In-app Play Store Transaction?

May 31, 2012

I've managed to incorporate in-app billing into our product but it is failing on one of my two test devices - a Samsung Vibrant / Galaxy S running Android 4.0.3

The transactions themselves are confirming - reserved product ID's and our actual product ID's - but on this particular phone once the response code is received and the app's activity is brought back into view, several variables holding operation-critical values are NULLed out, crashing the app and preventing actions associated with the purchase.

This DOES NOT happen on another test device - an HTC Sense running Android 2.3.4.

Both devices are running Play Store version 3.5.19.

At a loss right now for trouble shooting. If there is a way to extract the product ID from the signedData bundle returned from the Play Store it would be a way for me to side-step the problem.
