General :: How To Disable Reboot To Avoid Tracking (Google Location)
Mar 6, 2014So, I've checked 'settings->apps->running' and I see that when I restart my phone the OS turn on Google location Manager, Google Play market, and some other thing.
I would really like if when I turn on my phone- no element could use my GPS unless I specifically tell it to run, then stop the usage when I tell it to close. Part of the tracking prevention, I imagine, will be done by disabling those services which are required for proper part functioning.
I suppose my questions are:
1) What services/elements should I disable?
2) How do I prevent them from running on startup?
3) How do disable parts of android to run on start up, in general?
Also I'd like to note that I would prefer not installing any apps or root the phone.

Oct 22, 2009Looks like I've run into some breakage from 1.5 to 1.6 after all. I am registering location listeners with LocationManager.requestLocationUpdates() With GPS as location provider, I run into a problem with navigation stopping by itself after a few seconds, just to return, stop again, in an endless cycle. I haven't seen this prior to 1.6 Donut and I have no clue what might cause this problem.

Apr 13, 2013basically I'm running FreeXperia's CM9 on my Xperia U, and it doesn't recognise/support my network (carrier) which is Virgin Mobile UK, an MVNO.
I believe this is a general issue with Cyanogenmod, my phone works but it says no service instead of the network name, it's seriously annoying. Cyanogenmod has the Virgin Mobile apns in it's apns-conf.xml, but it won't use these as it can't see that that is the network I am connected to.
Basically my phone should display:
Virgin = when using T-Mobile UK
virgin = when using Orange UK.
Instead it just says no service the whole time?
I'd like to add support rather than just use an app to change the text.
MCC - 234, MNC - 31 and MCC - 234, MNC - 32.
Android :: Manually Added Location Updates Stop Working In Eclipse
Oct 2, 2009I'm working on a 1.5 Android application. Developing in Eclipse 3.4.2 on Windows XP. I have a MapView, have requested updates, etc.
The problem is that after the first manually injected GPS coordinate, the app stops recognizing that a GPS coord has been sent.

Then MyLocationListener simply changes the value in a TextView to match the new GPS coordinate.

I added some logging in the onLocationChanged method and it only ever sees a Location the first time that I attempt to send an update. All subsequent ones don't fire the onLocationChanged method.

According to http://developer.android.com/reference/android/location/LocationProvider.html#AVAILABLE , that 2 maps to "Available".
As soon as that "Available" gets set, no other locations get passed through. Seems a bit counterintuitive.

But then one took 2 days to arrive on a friend's phone! We're both on Android (I'm on a Nexus 4 running Kit Kat), though I'm on Telus and I believe he's on Wind Mobile. As an FYI, the day of the 2-day-delay I was using Handcent as my SMS app, but in the past I was using the stock SMS app. is the extra delay caused by my SMS app, my OS/phone or my carrier?

I already disabled push messages in my SMS settings and that didn't work. Seems you can disable it in ios within the sim settings and disable "Flash" notifications.

General :: Devices Reporting Wrong Location After Location Spoofing
Mar 15, 2013Recently all my android devices think they are in Spain when I am at home in Toronto.
I think this was caused when I ran a location spoofing program on only one of my devices, one of the locations I set it to was Spain (among others).
I've tried clearing the data for the Network Location apps, changing the SSID on my router with no luck.
The only way it shows the correct location is when I go outside and run Google maps long enough to get a GPS fix. But when I go back inside I am back in Spain!

General :: Boot Up Log Tracking?
May 24, 2012Is there a way by either an internal file or maybe an app to be able to track the boot log sequence of an Samsung Epic Touch (4G) Sprint (Or any other Android phone for that matter) . so if I have an error or an app is acting up I can tell which app or where in the boot up sequence there is a problem and what is causing it.
Now I have to uninstall the latest apps until I find the one that is causing a problem.
Also is there a way to for lack of a better word to (safe mode) or similar?

What I am trying to figure out is if there is an app or other way to trap the data coming out of the app via the cell network (lots of background web service calls). Since I do not own all of the web services, I cannot trap from the server side.
I basically want to turn on a trace like you would do in SQL, and look at what is being transmitted on the phone when wifi is off but cell is on. I don't need the actual packets, just that a call was made to one of my https services. If a call is made in wifi only mode, then I know I didn't get everything.

General :: Time Tracking App With Parallel Timers
Apr 14, 2012I need a time tracking app. There is a lot of time trackers on Google Play and I've tried a lot of them, but in every app I missed one important feature: parallel timers for different clients and jobs.
I need:
- to define my clients, to define my jobs I do for the clients, to define projects.
- to simply choose client, project and kind of job and then start the timer
- to simply start and stop MULTIPLE timers (start and stop one timer, while second timer is still running)
- to export all data in usable form (for billing my clients)
Example of what I mean:
- My job is phone support. I am sitting at home and answering phone calls. I am payed for hours, so I need to start timer and leave it running almost all day untouched (except of lunch time).
- Because I spent most of the time by waiting for calls, I simultaneously do other jobs. I write articles, compose music and do some other work for other clients. So I need to start and stop timers according to actual work - but the "phone support timer" has to be also running. When I am - for example - writing an article and someone calls me, I need to stop "writing article timer", pick up the phone and solve customer's problem. When I drop the phone, I need to start "writing article timer"... etc...
This kind of app with parallel timers I've used on my Psion PDA back in 1998, but I can't find similar app for Android phones.
