View 2 RepliesI cannot seem to find an answer to this although I seem to recall that when I first got the phone that I did it once for one word. When in Android Keyboard input, if you type in a word that is not in the dictionary, is there a way to save it so that it comes up again in the future and you don't have to type the whole word out each time you use it? It appears that this is the case in swype (which I do not care for) but after a lot of trial and error, I cannot seem to locate a place where you can do this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI got the Galaxy s4 yesterday. I'm going crazy just trying to add word to the dictionary. I can't even get it to spell my own name. It does not have the "personal dictionary" option under "language and input" that I am used to. I took it to Best Buy and three separate techs there played with it and they could not figure it out either.
How do I add words?
Any way to delete a word out of your personal dictionary that came with the phone? I want to delete a name, because my wife spells her name differently. So every time I use speech to text, it spells her name incorrectly.

View 3 Replies View RelatedCan I clear my Hero's dictionary of all words that I added? People text using my phone sometimes and they abbreviate things and I like to just type full words but my phone is constantly changing things I type into stupid abbreviations unless I get the spelling 100% perfect which means I have to stop and check every word when I am trying to text fast. I can't seem to find where I would do this in my settings.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a G1 for a while and never had problems adding words to the T9 dictionary. Now i have a HTC Hero and can't find any way of adding words to the phone keypad T9 dictionary. I used to start a word, then click the drop down arrow, then press "add word", but it appears that this option is non-existent on the Hero. Is this because i was using the "Chinese imput" input option or have they just moved this on the Hero.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to write an dictionary application for Android. I want it offline with at least 5000 words. My questions are:
What should I use to store my words, I mean is it a good idea to create an ArrayList, hashmap etc? If not then why and what do you propose? The more important thing for me this this how to create a database to store the words which will be at least 5000 I want the apps to work fast and work offline no need of network.
I'm using the regular messaging app and I'm just wondering if there's a way to delete words from the dictionary. I tend to save words that aren't words, and it's gotten to the point where the phone picks the wrong words over the right words.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering how to add words to the dictionary (aside from going into menu>settings>language & keyboard) like I used to be able to with my droid. If i was texting along and came to a word that wasn't in the dictionary, I could just long press and then select "add to dictionary". Well this phone doesn't have that option and so I'm wondering if I'm just missing it or what..?
View 8 Replies View RelatedRecently I started using gesture typing and I prefer it over swype and any third party keyboard I've tried.
Problem is, that I can only get it to work in languages that aren't my native tongue (which is dutch).
But I wouldn't mind using the English dictionary if only I didn't have to add every non-English word I use to the dictionary manually.
So my question is: Any way to make android automatically add every word I type to the dictionary? So that it can be used in gesture typing from then on?
I know that to delete words I've manually input into Swype is simply to highlight, hit the swype button and delete, but what about words that come in the Swype dictionary? For instance, I often mistakenly put in the word "Urea" when I want to say, "Yea." I don't see myself every needing the word "Urea," so I want to delete it from the Swype dictionary, but I can't seem to figure it out because it's not a word I made Swype learn, it's a word that came with Swype. Any way to fix this?

View 11 Replies View RelatedIt sucks that you can't delete words that are in the Dictionary. I get so annoyed when I am typing out a word and it puts a totally different word in place. You ever type out one of the days of the week? It ALWAYS puts a (s) at the end! For example I want to say I am having a Super bowl party on Sunday and it will put Sundays. Another thing that drives me crazy I could say "Maybe I will come over later" and it says "Maybe I Will come over later" Why does WILL have to be spelled like a name in this instance? I add lower case "will" to my dictionary but it still reverts back to the other one when I am typing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm texting, often words popup that are nowhere near the word that I have typed or am working on typing out. I know that I can press that down arrow and add a word but how can I delete some of the words that are already there. For example, sometimes, I start a message with "I'm" and the phone types "Um" instead. I have no need for the word "Um" Thanks everyone. Great site btw, I have learned so much here. Also, is there an AutoText app similar to the BlackBerry where I can type a word or series of letters and have it automagically replaced with something else? For example:

View 6 Replies View RelatedEver since I got 2.1 my phone started adding words to the dictionary by itself. In some cases this is helpful but as it turns out its annoying. It mainly adds capitalized versions of words. for example when I'm in the middle of a sentence it says "You" instead of "you" etc. I delete it, but it keeps coming back. Any way to permanently stop this from happening?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've seen a few posts about this, but i wanted to ask again and see if anything new has come up.I'm happy with my USER dictionary, because i check it every couple days to make sure there's no crazy stuff in there that will pop up while typing. However, i would really like to be able to edit the dictionary that comes on the Hero. The biggest gripe i have is that EVERY time i type "the" it replaces it with "Tue"Wouldn't the dictionary be a file on the phone? Seems like you should be able to edit it after rooting, no?

Is there any way to add a list of words to the User Dictionary without taking them one by one?
I saw the User Dictionary Manager on the market which would had been GREAT but it doesn't work on HTC Desire (and a few other HTCs). Any suggestions?
We all know that we cannot delete individual words in the dictionary ... however I found in thread in Android Applications that may be somewhat useful. I am posting it here becuase I dont know how many people check the other sections of the site. Here are a couple of the posts from that thread to explain.

I am just wondering if the auto-suggest dictionary is user-modifiable. I use compact QWERTY (like SureType on BB). When I type "we", what comes out is "qe" which is the default word it wants to use. Perhaps I used it once and saved it? How can I delete the words I don't want popping up anymore (especially the ones I may have added)?
