General :: How To Install ROM Through Recovery
May 19, 2014
I recently rooted my HTC Droid DNA and without thinking flashed a kernel while using the stock Android KitKat. I can no longer turn on my phone. When I try it just gets stuck at the HTC screen. Since the DNA doesn't have an SD card I can't plug that straight into my computer to put a rom on it and then flash it through the recovery. I am using TWRP and have tried to use ADB sideload but my computer keeps saying device not found. I am using windows 8 by the way. I just want to either flash the stock kernel or flash a custom rom so that I can actually use my phone again.
Edit: I can also use windows 7 if needed.

I was rooted my SGS i9000(XXJVS) with SuperOneClick 2.3.3 and successfully rooted my phone, but superuser did not been installed, so I installed from Android Market. Then I downloaded ROM manager, and selected "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". It has been downloaded, allowed superuser permissions, and ROM Manager wrote that it has been downloaded. But if I reboot into recovery mode, I get a message that writes:
Verifying update package... (meanwhile a bar fills up to about 15%)
E:failed to verify whole-filesignature
E:signature verification failed Installation aborted.
And I got a normal recovery mode. What should I do to install CWM? I only clicked "Root" button in SuperOneClick 2.3.3 and I didn't do any wipe data.

Is it secure to install the ROM via Recovery over 2.3?I have a Nandroid Backup from the original FW. Can I install it over 2.3? how can I get back to 2.2?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 SCH-R760.Tried to update phone from standard IceCreamSandwich to Jelly Bean via Samsung provided Simple Upgrade Tool. Very new to flashing phones, forgot to check model number, first attempt failed. Eventually got the right one (difficult to do with my model apparently), and the mobile network wouldn't work. Was told to reset APN, could not find it anywhere in the system.
Got fed up and decided to revert back to original OS, which failed. Waited overnight (it was late) with the phone off. Found the right file (just going to go back to Jelly Bean), however whenever I attempted to get into recovery mode it told me there was not enough power and to charge the phone. Phone was plugged in, this happened a couple of times. Now after the phone has been plugged in for well over 3 hours I cannot get the phone to power on or anything, it absolutely will not respond. Attempted to use Kies, will not recognize my phone model and is waiting for the phone to be connected anyway. When plugged in (trying/using various different cords) I have a little faint blue light flashing in the top left corner of the phone (not the phone screen).
The phone has been in excellent condition up until this point, and I have little reason to believe that my battery just suddenly went 100% bad after showing no signs of decay in recent weeks.

I had cwm recovery rom running, but i did not install it. then i installed cyanogenmod. now recovery is cyanogenmod, but i want it to be cwm recovery.
when i boot into recovery, i get cyanogenmod. adb and fastboot commands do not seem to be working. like i cant switch to fastboot via adb reboot bootloader. (is that because i flashed the custom rom???)
google play is not installed yet either because adb and fastboot isnt working like it was before i flashed cyanogenmod. i was going to try to download the cwm rom manager again to install (permanently) cwm recovery rom.

So I followed the tutorial found here: Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G: How to root on Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread and install ClockworkMod Recovery
I did option #1 and set up my device, and the program said the phone was set up. Now every time I turn my phone on a boot screen comes up with a yellow triangle with a yellow ! in the middle.
I can't go the the special boot (where you hold up, down, and power) and I can't do anything at all.
How can I reset my phone?

I've been following the development of dzk's CM10 ROM for the Droid X2 and Milestone X2. I was so impressed with his work that I picked up a MIlestone X2 off of Craigslist today, eager to install CM10 and dive into the world of customizing my phone.
It's been an interesting afternoon of workarounds (Rooting required some booting exploits, and the Milestone X2 requires a patched version of the Atrix BSR), but I have everything backed up (Milestone X2 came with 2.3.6) and I'm ready to try out CM10.
However, I've hit yet another snag. The installer doesn't want to install the CM10 zip file made by dzk. Here are the details:
Phone: Milestone X2
Carrier: Cellcom
Android version: 2.3.6
BSR: DroidX2 Recovery GFAN.COM V2.5.1.8
Attempted ROM: dzk's CM10: [URL] ......
Here's my process for attempting the upgrade:
1) Reboot phone into BSR
2) Select "install .zip from sdcard"
3) select "choose zip from sdcard"
4) Choose a zip to apply: cm10/cm-10-20121007-UNOFFICIAL-daytona.zip (I have already verified the md5 sum as matching)
5) Confirm install? Yes - Install cm-10-you-get-the-idea
Here's the output:
-- Installing: SDCARD:cm10/cm-10-20121007-UNOFFICIAL-daytona.zip
Finding update package. . .
Opening update package. . .
Installing update. . .
assert failed: run_program("/tmp/check_kernel") == 0
E:Error in /sdcard/cm10/cm-10-20121007-UNOFFICIAL-daytona.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I've gone through the original thread and haven't come up with much to go on. The only thing I can conclude is that I have to SBF to an earlier version of android. The only downside is, the Milestone X2 came with 2.3.6. There's no earlier version to go on with this phone. Can I go back to a stock version?

I've been working on this phone from start to finish about 9 hours, over two days..I've Google just about every combination of words to do with the title and everything in between but nothing seems to come close to what i actually need to do as nothing works.
i have an LG Optimus 2x / p990, it had ICS on it but was far too slow to handle this, it needs something a bit less hardware intensive to run smoothly, so i went ahead an found cyanogenmod stable...7.2 i installed sdk after an hour of finding out how it works i finally got adb and fast boot working.
to cut a 9 hour story short, I've managed to get myself to the point where i wiped the phone of everything but CWM partitioned for ics via the AIO software but CWM will not let me install any ROM onto the phone. to be more precise it says i have installed CM 7.2 successfully! (I've tried this via the CWM via external SD card and side load) i reboot the phone it's as if I've never done a thing, no trace or suggestion I've even attempted it on the internal card... nothing
i'm at the point now where i'm quite happy to just have my phone back now and install ICS 404 but can't use the LG kdz install software as the pc doesn't see the phone as an LG p990 because it's recovery and i can only get it to come up as internal and external memory cards.
Can get my phone working will do, preferably the CM 7.2 if not back to ICS 404? i should have backed up but i had no idea it could be so complicated just to put an OS on a tiny computer. I've tried that exit recovery.zip thing and it did nothing :/

I have flashed the GT-P1000 tab with clockworkmod version 6 (i am not sure the exact version) using Odin. Now after flashing the recovery, I have successfully installed Cyanogenmod 11 (nightly build) and everything was successful and everything is great.
A friend of mine borrowed the tab and he put a pattern to lock the phone, instead of asking him what is the pattern I just decided to wipe the tab again to make a clean install. So what I did was I went to recovery and selected "format /system" which I shouldn't have, then after rebooting it is not booting up to Cyanogen anymore, so what i did was I just wiped everything (format /data, cache and factory reset)
Now this is the weird part, the devices has kept on booting up to clockwork recovery and it says the device is not yet rooted, it is asking me if it is ok to root it, I always selected yes
After another boot up, the clockwork recovery is now version 3.0.0.5??? it is really weird? I never installed any clockwork mod with a lower version... How did that happen?
Now whenever I try to install from sd card or restore it or mount it nothing happens, it just says:
E:Can't mount
E:unknown volume
E:unable process volume! skipping
I tried to flash the recovery again using Odin many times but still the clockwork mod is stuck in version 3.0.0.5.
Right now, I am not sure if my understanding of the entire system is correct:
1. Should I install a new recovery, if yes, how and why is it whenever I am installing it again it is not being installed, it gets stuck to version 3.0.0.5?
2. Are there any other recovery I should use and how should I install it? is it the same as using the Odin?
3. Is there a way to install the original recovery of this tab and then from there I will start over again.
