View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had an LG Optimus S phone for a month, that I run almost exclusively on wifi (I have a pay-as-you-go plan for data, so I've turned 3G off so I only use it when I need it). Often at home the wifi turns off when the phone is sleeping... I'll turn on the phone to check something, but then I have to manually click the wifi back on and wait for it.
> LG Optiumus S running Android 2.2
> Wifi sleep policy has been set to "never" so wifi should stay on when phone is sleeping.
> 3G set to off
> Not rooted - it's "out of the box"
> Static IP set to "Off"
> No power control apps on phone
> My router security is set to "WPA-PSK (TKIP) and WPA2-PSK (AES)" ... I _can_ change it to "WPA2-PSK (AES)" only.
Lately I have realized that at home I don't get notifications from most of my apps. I have notifications turned on and I do get them pushed to me when I go to other places with high-speed internet. The internet at home isn't blazing fast but isn't slow at 13 Mbps. I don't get notifications for most games and some other apps, like hangouts, where I could end up missing out on a conversation because I never got the notification. I get notifications about new emails and updates from the Play Store but that's about it. Is there something I can try or do to fix this problem and get my notifications?

According to the MS website, Windows Media Player queries an MTP device to see what formats it supports. My Razr Maxx HD supports ogg and m4a. When attempting to sync WMP does not sync those files stating they might not be supported on the device. Being that I've had so much trouble in the past even getting any of the Android devices to be properly detected as an MTP device I'm worried this is a driver issue.I should be able to get WMP to at least convert them.
this is the device mis-reporting the formats, Windows not querying them properly, or an actual WMP issue? Would like to be able to get sync working without any conversions. Maybe there is a way to hardcode formats within the mtp inf file?
My Hero takes a long time to connect to my home wifi. I usually go in to the settings and hit "Scan" repeatedly before it connects. Sometimes it fails connect, and I have to go into Settings to try again. Is there a way/app to scan automatically or re-attempt to connect again? Maybe there's something I'm not thinking of?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there is anyway to make SoundHound or Shazam to detect musics that played from Internet radio, ie "tunein" or alikes, that usually plays only if you plug your headphones in?
It seems SoundHound and Shazam can only detect incoming sound using the phones mic, so if nothing is going to mic it will not detect anything at all.
I saw in a post from a Sony Xperia user that he accidently made it working but i think its only for that particular phone.
Any workarounds/mods to make this work on any android device?
I'm loving my Nexus 5, my first Android phone. I use Pattern Lock. I want to disable Pattern Lock when I'm at my home wifi. I did some research and it looks like apps can only turn off Pattern Lock when the phone is rooted. Is this true? I don't want to root my phone and I'd rather not have to enter Pattern Lock a hundred times a day.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThere appears to be an issue with my Hero-router WiFi connection. Has anyone had similar experiences or have any advice? My Hero can generally see my home wireless router and report a good signal, though the visibility can drop out (when my other devices are still happily connected). It can also see my neighbors' networks, so it isn't a range issue.
For the most part, the Hero just doesn't seem to want to connect. If I reboot the router it will connect briefly for a couple of secs. I've tried altering a few of the router broadcast settings, trying b-only/ g-only/ b+g, but this hasn't helped (n isn't available, but I understand the Hero to be g anyway). I haven't yet been to another WiFi area, to check if it will connect to other networks. My suspicion is it is a specific compatibility issue with my router (Zoom).
I had been tearing my hair out because my new HTC Desire couldn't see my home WiFi and yet occasionally it would "see" a weak signal from a neighbor's house. My Access point was running WEP so I changed it to WPA-SPK - still no good. So I also set up a second standalone WAP running WEP. Still couldn't see either WAP.
Upgraded to latest ROM firmware. No difference. Long story short, it wasn't the type of security, it was because I was using Channel 13, It suddenly occurred to me that not all countries (I'm in Australia) have Channel 13 available so the phone might not have it either. Changed WAP from 13 to Channel 6 (although any other but 13 would no doubt work) and everything worked.
I would like to know if there are any issues connecting my HTC Desire to my home WiFi using Linksys DD-WRT G? It connects to other networks such as Starbucks and mall WiFi but never at home.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm away from home without a WiFi connection it seems like nothing works. You Tube, Last FM, eBay and worst of all any of the three different types of Twitter I have. Some of these apps are incredibly slow or others just give up. I've never been able to upload a picture via Twitter using any platform. Really annoying. Seems my Gmail isn't even notifying my anymore.. Have I done something? Is this linked to Orange's notoriously poor set up?
Will rooting my phone help? I'm already running out of space on my phone after downloading what I consider a fairly small number of apps. Why don't they save to, and run off, the SD card?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAs part of an application that I'm developing for Android I'd like to show the user an edge-detected version of an image they have taken (something similar to the example below). To achieve this I've been looking at the Sobel operator and how to implement it in Java. However, many of the examples that I've found make use of objects and methods found in AWT (like this example) that isn't part of Android. My question is then really, does Android provide any alternatives to the features of AWT that have been used in the above example? If we were to rewrite that example just using the libraries built into Android, how would we go about it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had a Milestone for about a month now and have noticed that it seems to have problems detecting that the USB cable has been connected.Sometimes when I connect it, to the mains charger or to a PC, it doesn't indicate that anything has happened - no USB notification and no lightning symbol on the battery to show that it is charging. If I power the phone off and then connect it the phone turns on and shows the USB notification.Has anyone else experienced this or should I look at getting the phone exchanged?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently working on an experimental camera app. I'm looking into implementing face detection at the moment and am currently weighing up my options.I have considered the OpenCV port available for android and using their face detection functions, but from demos I have seen of previous implementations the camera seems to lag a lot.Considering the camera on the HTC desire has face detecting, I know it must be possible to get at least a semi decent face detection system in place. I was just wondering if anyone had an opinion on how I could get the best results.Using an available library? Implementing a particular algorithm myself?
