View 1 RepliesI want to know how to change the orientation of my layout inside of eclipse but when I click the "layout" button it still shows it as a vertical layout.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe xml files that contains the Activity layouts can be rendered by Eclipse.
How do I get that Eclipse screen area to have vertical orientation, not horizontal (inside Eclipse - it correctly shows as vertical in the emulator)?
is there a way to have a view use a different layout when an orientation change occurs. suppose i want the view to look one way in portrait and another way in landscape. all the same data, but arranged differently.I'm thinking one way to do this would be to have two different linear layouts with android:visibility="gone" and simply display the appropriate one (set android:visibility="visible") based on orientation -- i.e. do this from code.is there a way to do this in xml? or something like this (i.e. in landscape, put the textview here, in portrait, put it here instead)?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if we can change orientation just by sensing the layout position, port or land;without flip like iphone does.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'd also like a way to change the default, if possible.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI understand how to force a specific orientation per activity in the android manifest. I would like to know if it is possible to allow the keyboard to change orientation even though the activity(the layout really) must remain unchanged.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created an activity for my game which handles all orientation changes by itself and has a fixed "portrait" layout. Actually it uses the accelerometer and is rendered using 2D canvas methods. If the level has been completed I show up a highscore dialog in which the user can enter his name. The dialog is floating above the underlying level screen which gets blurred out nicely. This generally works.
Problem is that the dialog does not get rotated if the orientation of the phone changes. So even if the keyboard is exposed the dialog is shown in portrait mode instead of landscape. I have tried to use an activity with dialog theme instead but the behavior didn't change. After several tries it seems that I have found the reason for this: Once there's an activity with fixed orientation in the activity stack then all subsequent activities keep this orientation, too. They will not react on orientation changes anymore (e.g. if the keyboard gets exposed).
After upgrading to 1.5 SDK the described behavior changed a little bit. Now at subactivities indead react on orientation changes like expected. However, the need to have an opaque background! That means that neither dialogs nor activities with dialog theme will work. Those will stick with the orientation of the underlaying activity. So my workaround is to first start a sub-activity with an opaque black background. This activity then shows my highscore dialog on top. It looks quite okay but I wonder if there's a better solution? Is it possible to show a dialog above a fixed portrait or landscape activity which automatically adapts to orientation changes?
I am using eclipse 3.5 with the ADT plugin.when I view layout xml files, i get two tabs in the view the source code view and a graphical view.the graphical view almost never works for any of my layouts.it usually shows "NullPointerException: null" at the top and nothing else. when it does work, it often does not match what i get in the simulator or device.it seems like this thing simply is not ready for prime time; although the idea is very cool.has anyone else had much success with it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI figured that I can have custom layout for each orientation just by making two folders layout-port and layout-land. So I put different views in these folders. Worked well.
Now, I have a webview in my activity and it reloads whenever there is any change in orientation. So to prevent that I put android:configChanges="orientation" in my manifest file.
After putting this the reloading stopped but the contents in the layout-port started getting selected for landscape mode as well.
I have a notification that starts my activity and passes a messages using the intent's putExtra() function. The message is then displayed to the user in the activity's onCreate function. When the application is restarted due to a orientation change, the message is shown again as it is still in the intent's bundled data.
How can I remove the extra data?
I tried the following:
Bundle bundle = getIntent().getExtras();
if (bundle.getBoolean("showMessage")) {
// ... show message that is in bundle.getString("message")
// remove message
bundle.remove("showMessage");
}
But the message will still be shown after the orientation changed, seems like the intent used is not the one I changed, but the original one. The only workaround I found is to save the showMessage additionally in onSaveInstanceState(). Is there another way? Or is this the way to go?
I have a program with two layouts: - layout/main.xml - layout-land/main.xml
Also, i have some images en drawable and drawable-land...
My problem is: When i change the orientation of the emulator (for examplo: portrait to landscape) i don't know how reload the main.xml layout to update the screen with the new positions....
If I launch the emulator in portrait the application load the portrait layout, and if I launch the emulator in landscape mode the application load the landscape layout, but if I change the orientation in execution mode the application don't load the new layout...
How can I reload the layout?
My activity use the same RelativeLayout as it's content view whatever the orientation is. In this RelativeLayout, there is a FrameLayout align to it's bottom, and a TextView above this FrameLayout, just like :
CODE:...........
on android 1.5 device when orientation changed, the TextView lies in the wrong place, middle when portrait, bottom when landscape. on android 1.6 device It is ok.
How could I make it lies in the place where it should be on 1.5 device?
I've been trying to solve this for awhile now, and still couldn't find a solution to it. To properly display my SirfaceView consumed by the camera, I have forced my activity's layout in landscape mode. However, in my app the camera functionaluty will be mostly used in portait mode, and therefore all other views in the same activty have to be in portrait mode. Needless to say if I don't force the activity in landscape, the SurfaceView is 90 degrees rotated.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a widget which has say, a dimension of 294*72(portrait). But when the orientation is changed, I need to change this dimension of the widget to another dimension which would look good on the landscape orientation.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have played around a bit with the xml files for creating layouts and can't explain the behaviour of layout_weight when using it in a LinearLayout that has orientation="vertical"
When creating a layout that is horizontal everything follows the documentation, that a child would get more space if it's has the highest value.
But the following code for vertical orientation, give more space to the item with lowest weight.
CODE:..........
And the question is: Is this a bug or just a feature that maybe need more documentation?
I have an image set as my background and when it is vertical, the image looks fine. However, when the orentation is changed, the image get streched out. If there a way that I can change the image based on the orentation of the device?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it possible for my android application to dynamically adjust the no of column and no of row of my TableLayout based on orientation?
For example, when in landscape mode, the TableLayout is 3x2 and when
in portrait mode, the TableLayout is 2x3?
I have the following linear layout. What I don't understand is if I set the background to another image, the padding information are reset. Is there a way to prevent this?
<LinearLayout android:id="@+id/aPanel"
android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:background="@drawable/bkground"
android:paddingLeft="15dp" android:paddingRight="15dp">
<!-- some children here -->
</LinearLayout>
I see the position of the children get shifted when I change the backround drawable of the linearlayout 'aPanel'.
I have a layout I'm creating that uses ViewFlipper for different screens.In eclipse's layout editor it only displays the first page in the View.Is there a keyboard shortcut, or function to flip to the next screen?Currently I'm building each screen in a seperate XML file and then copying and pasting it into the main XML file.Is there a better way to work here?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've created a new xml file in my layouts directory using eclipse's "new->xml file" wizard and i want to be able to use the built in layout editor, however, this file is not recognized as an android layout file by the editor, but rather as an ordinary file. everything compiles and runs okay, but i wanted to know how to do it better next time.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRelative noob working with Eclipse and Android.I just switched from Windows XP to Mac (Snow Leopard) and I'm having a little trouble getting Eclipse up and running the way I like it.I installed the Android Mac SDK, but my layout editor isn't showing me a preview of the activity layout, it's just showing me the XML tree, even when I'm on the design tab.Is there something I need to do to enable the layout editor in eclipse?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSystem config is MacOSX with default JDK 1.5.0_16. Eclipse 3.4 The problem is I have a project in workspace that has been developed under JDK 1.6.I don't really want to switch back to 1.5 ( i' would have to clean up a LOT of @Override ) but if i work with this project, after couple of rebuilds - eclipse layout editor not able to display preview. Work around i found so far open android project that is in compliance with Java 1.5. Close everything else and rebuild workspace. But it's kind of annoying to do it every time.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm porting an app of mine to work better with API 1.5, and I'm having problems with the layout files where I'm using an AutoCompleteTextView (and, naturally, MultiAutoCompleteTextView). Whenever I have them present in a layout, the graphical representation of the layout disappears, and "NullPointerException: null" replaces it. Is there any way I can view a widget such as this in the Eclipse editor? It definitely worked in the 1.1 SDK, otherwise I wouldn't have used them.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I create a subfolder in the layout folder, and drag an xml file to it, the generated R file doesn't seem to show the subfolder. a) is there a way to change that b) is the file and file structure still picked up by SVN and c) so, if I do it that way, can I still just refer to the object using layout?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to java, eclipse, and android development, so I may be missing something simple although I have checked basic stuff like spelling several times.
Because there is no number picker control (such as that used in the date picker) in the public Android SDK, the conventional wisdom is to "clone and own" the control that exists in the Android source.
In an attempt to do that, I have copied the code for NumberPicker into my project and its dependency, NumberPickerButton. I have also copied the supporting resources.
The problem I am having is that when I try to include the NumberPicker in a layout, the rendered version of the layout within Eclipse does not work.
CODE:...............
Adding that tag causes the Layout view of the XML file to only show the following error.
ClassCastException: com.spencerandbrown.PatientTracker1.NumberPickerButton cannot be cast to com.spencerandbrown.PatientTracker1.NumberPickerButton
I have tried both the fully qualified name and the unqualified name and it makes no difference.
The strange thing is that the control works at run time, it just will not render in Eclipse.
Is there a solution for this issue? Am I just doing something wrong?
If necessary, I can include more code from my project to clarify.
If I reference the internal Android widget, it works fine in the Eclipse layout view, but it is clumsy to interact with that way and it might break in the future.
CODE:............
Here is the stack trace from Eclipse.

This is probably related to this question. I want to know if anyone else gets the same error as me and if there is a way to get around this. I did the following: Followed the instructions from this page. From the top, go to File -> Create a new project -> Android Project -> Create project from existing sample. Checked Android 2.2. From the drop-down menu picked SkeletonApp. Clicked finish. From the package explorer, went to SkeletonActivity -> res -> layout -> skeleton_activity.xml. In the tabs at the bottom of the editor area (editor area is the center of the screen) clicked on Layout. Then I got the error "ClassCastException: android.widget.EditText cannot be cast to andoid.text.ViewGroup". The full text of the error message is given below.

I'm new to Android & Eclipse. I've downloaded Eclipse and the Android ADT and created an ultra-simple "Hello World" app (has only auto-generated .java and .xml files). Eclipse CRASHES (closes after a very brief pause) when I do the following: In Package Explorer, select AppName/res/layout/main.xml Press, or double-click, or 'Open With' then 'Android Layout Editor' (The app runs OK in the Android emulator) My configuration is:
Android Development Tools 0.9.5.v200911191123-20404 com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group
Eclipse IDE for Java Developers 1.2.2.20100216-1730 epp.package.java
Windows XP
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or what's wrong with my configuration? Any suggestions on what to check? For any non-trivial app development I need to be able to use the Layout Editor. More ... I can select main.xml and Right-Click and 'Open With' any of: XML Editor, XML Schema Editor, Text Editor -- with no problem. The problem is limited to Android Layout Editor.
