View 1 RepliesI have a WebView that I'm using to display some html/image files stored in the assets/ directory.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a WebView on my Android application which loads (WebView.loadUrl()) different local HTML files from phone's internal storage. I would like to include some custom css styles for them, Now, I could have my app edit every HTML file and add linking reference for the CSS file.I could also read the file contents, add the CSS linking and use WebView.loadData() to load it.But is it possible to do this a lot simpler and efficiently.Note: The HTML files are downloaded from a website. So editing them manually is not possible in this case, but once downloaded they can be edited via the app if necessary.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm loading html into a webview from my assets folder, works no problem. In my second experiment I've loaded HTML from a database (after pulling from remote source) and displayed in a webview (also no prob). Now I'm trying to change the baseref inside the html to have all JS and CSS references point to source files under assets. This part doesn't seem to work. I get warnings from the web console that it can't load these files due to security issue.
Now I've resorted back to a content provider and overriding openFile (and setting base ref with content://...) but now I'm hitting another problem with the JS and CSS files in assets being compressed. Can load html from assets but loading JS, CSS from within that HTML is another story. Before I dig deeper, am I over-complicating this?
I get a lot of requests in my application to allow for custom icons packs from BetterCut / Open Home. The way it seems to work is you install BetterCut or Open Home, then you can install tons of these free icon packs from the market. Once installed both those apps (and other apps) will poll for those icon packs and use the icons. I want to know how to poll the install applications for the asset folders that are available. I have opened up a few of the icon packs and verified that there is an assets folder in there and they are full of all the icon png files. I've searched on here, other code sites, google, etc., but haven't found any leads.
From the answer below I have written some code to try and list a file from my own projects assets directory but it does not seem to work.
Resources r = this.getResources();
AssetManager a = r.getAssets();
String[] list = a.list("/");
Log.d("test", "Length of / is "+list.length);
for (String s : list) { Log.d("test", s); }
Log.d("test", "Length of /assets is "+a.list("/assets").length);
Log.d("test", "Length of /assets/ is "+a.list("/assets/").length);
Log.d("test", "Length of /assets/ is "+a.list("/assets/").length);
Log.d("test", "Length of ./assets/ is "+a.list("./assets/").length);
Log.d("test", "Length of ./assets is "+a.list("./assets").length);
This is the output:
03-16 12:25:04.591: DEBUG/test(13526): Length of / is 6
03-16 12:25:04.591: DEBUG/test(13526): AndroidManifest.xml
03-16 12:25:04.591: DEBUG/test(13526): META-INF
03-16 12:25:04.591: DEBUG/test(13526): assets
03-16 12:25:04.591: DEBUG/test(13526): classes.dex
03-16 12:25:04.591: DEBUG/test(13526): res
03-16 12:25:04.591: DEBUG/test(13526): resources.arsc
03-16 12:25:04.614: DEBUG/test(13526): Length of /assets is 0
03-16 12:25:04.637: DEBUG/test(13526): Length of /assets/ is 0
03-16 12:25:04.661: DEBUG/test(13526): Length of /assets/ is 0
03-16 12:25:04.692: DEBUG/test(13526): Length of ./assets/ is 0
03-16 12:25:04.716: DEBUG/test(13526): Length of ./assets is 0
I figured out that you can read from the assets directory without actually using the folder name:
InputStream is = assetManager.open("test.png");
I also tried this with an asset in Appliction 2 from Application 1, where the folder path is /asset/icon/image.png:
InputStream is = assetManager.open("icon/image.png");
Next I figured out that you can list a directory inside assets:
String[] list = assetManager.list("icons");
That also works great. The only thing failing right now is how to list the base directory assets.
when I run this code, it starts playing all the audio files in the assets directory, in alphabetical order instead of just playing the audio file I requested. What am I doing wrong? Is there a better way to play audio files from the assets directory?Is there a difference between keeping audio files in the assets directory and keeping them in the res/raw directory? Besides the fact that they don't get ids if they are in the assets directory. If I move the audio files to the res/raw folder then I have a problem with reusing MediaPlayers because there is no id parameter for setDataSource(). I can't find a good guideline for handling this kind of problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a webview in my activity and loaded contents for webview by following:
CODE:..................
In description.html i have a reference for another html file located in the same place by following:
CODE:..................
This was working absolutely fine in emulator but when i run it on my Galaxy S mobile, hyperlink does not work fine. Kindly help me. Is there any permission i am missing or something else?
I have a main page (main.html) in the assets folder that I am displaying with:
webview.setWebChromeClient(new MyWebChromeClient());
webview.getSettings().setJavaScriptEnabled(true);
webview.addJavascriptInterface(new VersionCallbackScript(), "demo");
webview.loadUrl("file:///android_asset/main.html");
and I want to put a link in the document to another html file in assets folder. When I similiarly put in the tag:
<a href="file:///android_asset/secondpage.html">Touch here for page 2</a></font></h4>
and touch it in the client, the screen loads a blank page.
likewise, I want to have a table of contents that isA ListView and uses loadUrl with an html page suffixed with an anchor. I tried and it is not working
String anchor = "subsection1";
webview.loadUrl("file:///android_asset/main.html" + "#" + anchor); this construct is not working either.
I'm going crazy, I created a file object, so it can be read with ObjectInputStream, and I placed the assets folder.
The method works with a file smaller than 1M, and give error with larger files.
I read that is a limit of Android platform, but I also know that can be "easily" avoided.
Those who have downloaded the game Reging Thunder, for example, can easily see that in their assets folder is a file 18.9M large.
This is my code ...
now I have an uncompressed file and I can use it without worrying about the error "This file can not be opened as a file descriptor; it is probably compressed"
This function works well with files smaller than 1M, with bigger files return an
java.io.IOException on line "ObjectInputStream ois=new ObjectInputStream(is);"
why?
This should be very simple, but I can't find the answer anywhere. How do I load an html file (which I assume I keep in res/raw folder) into a webview?
neither mWebView.loadUrl("file:///raw/about");
or
mWebView.loadUrl("file:///raw/about.htmal");
works.
What's the correct syntax or arrangement.
the question i have is simple but hard to put in words, ill give it a try anyways.i am trying to load a web page in web view,however the load time is a little high.is there anyway i can put the images in the assets folder and load them from there instead?if not, is there a way i can load the whole site from the assets folder, providing that my php files can still communicate with my internet database?i have already read most tutorials however they are pretty vague when it comes to concrete help.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been building my app using the standard xml and Java Android layout libraries. I don't like the set up very much; and I would prefer to build the ui in html. I've been testing the speed of the WebView; and it seems that it is quite fast at rendering. Does anyone know if Google has ever said anything on the subject of building the ui in html and rendering it in a WebView? I know it's perfectly legal to render the UI in the WebView; but am I going to run into some problem in the future?

Therefore, I have to set the content programmatically, rather than extract the strings from an android xml resource. I'm using a WebView to display the content, rather than TextView, as it handles some of the HTML markup - bold text for example, and links. However WebView does appear to be rather limited.
