I have a ListView which is populated using a CursorAdapter. I'd also like to have some separators in my ListView. I have accomplished this with an ArrayAdapter, but I'm not sure how to accomplish this with a CursorAdapter. Are there any strategies for doing so? Or am I out of luck?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a ListView with a custom Adapter that extends ArrayAdapter. It's ArrayAdapter of Type Artist. (There are about 1200 artists in my list). Artist is a very small class that has a name and an id. The Artist Class has toString() overridden to return just the name. I have an EditText. The EditText has an TextChangeListener where I call .getFilter().filter(chars, callback) on my adapter. In the Filter.Filterlistener().onComplete() callback i print the count and it looks really good. As i type the count decreases. So it seams everything works as advertised, but the List stays the same. I tried to call artistAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged() to force the list to redraw, but nothing happens. [see 2.)]. I am tinkering around for days now! I am desperate. Hopefully someone can have a look on my code and tell me what I am doing wrong! How can I force the list to be redrawn?
Here is what I have done:
1.) Defined a ListView and an EditText like this:

I have a list which shows data from a database using a cursor adapter. Using Menu option I am updating my database (inserting more rows deleting existing rows). When Menu operation completes, I want contents of list should show updated contents.
I have tried using cursor.requery(); (or explicitly querying cursor again) and using adapter.notifydatasetchanged(), but with this list of contents are not updated.
How can I refresh the contents of the list.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI never do graphics type programming. I'm designing a screen that will need to look good on all phones, and all resolutions. It's for displaying in a list view, and there will be a small graphic for the summary view, and a larger graphic for the detail view. Normally I use a 32x32 (res 72x72ppi).png for the summary view which looks good on my G1. The second image is for the detail view and it basically should fill the entire width of the screen (roughly, it's ok if it doesn't use the entire width as long as none of it is chopped off). The size I use for my G1 is 468x60.
So, the question for the guys that really know this stuff is: What sizes do I need to make these images to support all screens and densities with the fewest number of images? I know that the answer is a little subjective, but I remember seeing a post with a link to a page that recommended 3 different images for the different screens (and it seemed to make sense when I read it), and I think but don't remember for sure that then you would need 6 layouts to support those with both landscape and portrait orientations.
I am a new to Android stuff. I am creating an application that contains a list view that will get dynamically populated. My requirement is when the list is empty, I would like to show a message. I don't want to create additional views just for displaying this message. Is there any nice way to do this? Any suggestions?

I want to write a short app for getting some info from contacts, the first list screen I have should display the user Image (or an Image from resources if no such image exists) an the user display name. The problem is I don't seem to find a query that will provide me with the display name and a user id And the image URI in the same query. Moreover I'm aware of the fact that if the user has no image and the URI is empty or null i will most likely to get an exception while the adapter calls setViewImage(). Is there a simple way around it or should I override the setViewImage() or bindView() methods?
Also about the query, any chance I can make a single query for contact URI, _ID, contact_id and display name? my current queries: To get the contacts:

This isn't a coding masterpiece, it just displays a pseudo-listview with pictures. I know i could've used ListView, GridView, Spinner, etc. but i'm relative new to android and i'm trying to figure out some things on it. Well, the question here is Why is my onItemClick not firing?
Using the same ImageAdapter with a GridView, everything works ok, but when i use with above class, i get nothing. Inside AdapterView.java there is code for those click, longclick, etc events... so why can't i just fire them? Maybe i'm misunderstanding basic things on how AdapterView works? Should I extend other base classes instead? And why? Hoping to find more experienced guidance on here, thanks in advance.
I am on Android 2.1 and I have one multi column Custom listview Using BaseAdapter with an editable edittext at the end of the listview. If the data in the listview do not contain the data of user choice then user should be able to enter data. If the data is already there in the list user will be able to select the data using custom selector. If a selection is made in the list view and user wanted to enter data in the text field at the bottom after selection then the marker in the list view should be unselected. I tried to use onclick() method on edit text using click listener. First time when it is clicked, edit text is getting focus and onclick() method is not fired. And when it is clicked second time, onclick() method is fired and notifyDataSetChanged() method is called. I tried to call the notifyDataSetChanged() method from the Focus Listener, list view selection is gone in my first attempt and edit text is not receiving any data input from the keyboard (frozen).

This works OK up to about 1000 Views and then performance degrades a little. Obviously, I'd like to use the List Adapter pattern and only generate the parts of the View hierarchy that are visible on the screen. My parent View, however, is not (and cannot be) any of the existing List View types. My question, then, is how do the List View types interact with a List Adapter to limit the number of Views necessary to represent a big list?
