Android : Use Droid In Another Country Without Sim / Data?

Aug 20, 2010

I'm traveling to Europe next week and would like to only take my android phone around instead of a netbook and was wondering if it's possible to use it without the sim card or how to disable everything so I'm not charged?

I have the tmobile HTC magic that has a custom rom (cynangenmod) and would like to take it to Europe to use the browser as well as the GPS if possible, but don't want to be charged.
I have coplit for gps, so I don't need internet data when driving.

Android :: Request To Google And Releasing Paid App From Different Country

Nov 5, 2009

I am planning to release my app (which i have been pllanning to do so for quite a few time now, waiting for the expansion of google checkout to happen).I am from India and I am planning to release the application using my friends UK Bank account. Is this advisable? Are there any things that I should take care of?Also is there any chance of google expanding the google checkout or in introducing new payout options like paypal?I have been waiting for the support for quite sometime and I am very much depressed on the issue that google is still not expanding the services, ive sent numerous mails to them asking for atleast the estimated release date but in vain.

Its been nearly an yeaar since android is relmore than an year since android phones have been released and still there is such slow progress. iPhones allows developers from most of the countries to publish their apps and customers from any country can buy the same, i think they can even do it through itunes.I think this is going to hurt the progress and development of android big time. If apple can do it why not google? I have been expecting some response from google atleast on the estimated date, so that we can plan accordingly.

What is required by his side ? A bank account or a credit card ? How the money are transferred to him ? What exactly Google checks to verify if the developer is in one of the supported countries ?

General :: Movies Via Android Market - Country Or Network Specific?

Mar 7, 2012

I have an HTC Desire HD on Orange UK. In the market I have only ever seen apps & books. I have never seen movies or music listed. I have, until now, assumed that these were probably only available in certain countries because of licensing agreements.

I was discussing the rebranding to Google Play with a colleague, only to find out that they have, and have done for a while, a section in their Market /Play Store for movies. They have an HTC Desire S on T Mobile UK.

Why would I not have movies available via my market? I'm guessing that it wouldn't be handset compatibility, so would it be that Orange are blocking this for some reason? Who else, in the UK, has the movies option, and who doesn't? What is the common ground between each group?

They do not have music as a Market section, so I guess that I was right about this, and it is not available to the UK at all?

General :: Google Search Defaulting To Wrong Country?

Jan 24, 2013

I just got a Galaxy S3 yesterday and the first time I turned it on I used my work wifi connection. This operates via a proxy which makes any website think I'm in another country (varies from country to country depending which server has the least load).

Unfortunately, now whenever I do a Google search it defaults to google.de. I only connected to the work wifi when I turned it on, since then I've been acessing at home or using my 3G connection. I live in England so this is very annoying.

Is there any way I can stop Google going to the German site? I tried clearing everything in the browser but this didn't work.

Bit of further info: If I go to Settings > Google > Search, there is a tick-box that says "Search on google.com" and underneath that it says "Using www.google.com instead of your local domain (www.google.de)".

There has to be a way of changing that setting, surely!

My problem is that, if in a later update, I decide to store more data or store the same data in a different way, I need to be careful I don't lose or corrupt data for users that upgrade (i.e. I want users to be able to use data created by an old version in the new version, like their high scores from before). For example, say I want to save high scores in version 1.

HTC Droid Eris :: Always Enable Mobile Data Function Causes Data Leakage?

Aug 21, 2010

Can anyone help explain what this does? I did a small search around the internet, and it came up with just about nothing. My first question is: I turned mobile data off, and yet, during the night, I was charged for data, so something leaked.Personally, I thought if this was because of this particular function. But maybe it was something else. So, I turned it off, but around the forums for other androids people seem to think that syncing doesn't work as well with this disabled.Does anybody know what might have happened? And could this function have been the thing that caused the leak. The leak, was actually for only 50 KB or so, but because I'm on Page Plus, it caused me to go under the required balance to refill of $29.95 and caused my plan to lapse. It's important for me for this not to happen again. Can anyone give any tips?

How I'm able to do what I've written in the topic. I've looked through many tutorials on AsyncTask but I can't get it to work. I have a little form (EditText) that will take what the user inputs there and make it to a url query for the application to lookup and then display the results.

What I think would seem to work is something like this: In my main activity i have a string called responseBody. Then the user clicks on the search button it will go to my search function and from there call the GrabUrl method with the url which will start the asyncdata and when that process is finished the onPostExecute method will use the function activity.this.setResponseBody(content).

This is what my code looks like simpliefied with the most important parts (I think).
