I downloaded Advanced Task Manager and read this article and it didn't really explain how to use the auto-kill function. Of the five tabs, I can't figure out how to take advantage of it. I've been using ATK, but I'd rather stick to just one app. Which one has worked better for you? And how do I take advantage of ATM's auto-kill?

Does anyone know where I can find a description of what the auto kill levels do on advanced task killer?Also, if you choose to auto kill when the screen is off, does anything reopen automatically with the screen still off?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed it on my Droid and when I open the list and long press on an app it gives me the option to Auto-Kill. I assume this means I won't have to kill this app any longer so I select this option but I find that I keep having to kill the same apps over and over again. What's the point of Auto-Kill or what am I doing wrong? There are lots of programs (most I didn't even install) that run all the time and I'm having battery issues so I don't have battery to waste on programs I'm not using and will probably never use.

View 17 Replies View RelatedI've been using Task Panel X and Advanced Task manager to kill unneeded tasks and keep memory at a maximum.
Recently, every time I open Task Panel X and then revert back to Home screen I get the HTC logo and then a loading screen while the device sets itself. This happens even if I kill NO tasks.
So my solution was to uninstall Task Panel X and then use just Advanced Task Manager. All the sudden, same result.
Everytime I open either of these apps and then go back to home screen I get a BLACK SCREEN WITH HTC LOGO, THEN A BRIEF (10 SECONDS) LOADING SCREEN. THEN ALL IS NORMAL.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI have the startup auditor and Task Panel apps. I want to try and setup the phone to always have as much memory available as possible. Most of them are pretty obvious but there are a few I'm not sure of. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of services/processes/etc. that we can safely kill off and/or set for auto-kill/disable at startup? Edit: One I was curious about is Google Partner Setup. I have killed it off without any issues through Task Panel. But would having it on the auto-kill list be OK?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAnyway, I just wanted for everyone to post their favorite Task Manager/Killer, and why, and if there are any flaws. I personally use Advanced Task Killer Free. It has a simple UI, and the when you select or unselect apps it remebers it so next time you launch the app you can only remove the apps that you usually do, and keep ones that always run. It doesn't slow down or break the system.

So I can have the app running and know that every lets say 15 minutes it kills the tasks that I selected to always be killed I would prefer this method over screen blank apps that kill tasks.

Have had the Advanced Task Manager and I love it, but it seems as though when I end all tasks(which I usually do to save time from individually picking which ones should be ended), it might mess with my network/system processes. I recently did a factory reset because my GPS wasn't tracking my location well. I tried to just power off the phone and see if my GPS could locate me, but it couldn't. When I first got the phone the GPS would pick me up and track me if I was moving just like that. I was afraid the task manager could have messed something up with my network processes. Any ideas?

Does anyone else have suggestions for the best widget they've found? I liked the HTC widget because you could see more details when you clicked the icon as well as the relatively small icon size. My app starts the background service on boot. The activity is not started except from menu. But its name appears in the advanced task killer list. When I try to kill it, it doesnt call the onDestroy method neither the service's.
Myself and a friend are both wondering why apps that we never open are sometimes found running in the Advance Task Killer? As an example- I will clear all tasks only to find later that apps like VoiceMail, Navi, and others are showing up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst let me explain how I use Advanced Task Killer (ATK). I use all the default settings with the exception that Auto Start is off. What I do is, every now and then, I open ATK and kill every app that shows up on the list, including ATK itself.
I've had my Incredible for about a month; I've been doing the exact same thing for about that long as well. However, recently (maybe a week or two, I am not sure), once out of every handful of times when I ask ATK to kill all appls, ATK kills them, but the white background with green "htc" logo shows up for a second or two. (It looks kind of like when the phone first boots up.) Then it goes to my home screen, but it looks dim and fuzzy, like when you turn off your phone where a rectangle pops up in the middle of the screen saying the phone is shutting down while your home screen is dim and fuzzy. Instead of saying the phone is shutting down, however, the rectangle box in the middle says "Loading..." I do not know what it is loading.
My impression is that when I ask ATK to kill all the apps on the list, it somehow kills some "important" ones so then my phone immediately reopens those apps hence the "Loading..." screen. What is puzzling, however, is that it just started doing this recently. I do not think I have made any major changes to my phone in the last few weeks.
I have tried to pay attention to the apps that ATK kills before I kill them; I have not been able to spot any pattern.
Does anyone have the same experience? Or does anyone know what is happening here? As far as I can tell, my phone runs fine, but it is a little bit disconcerting when that "Loading..." screen shows up every now and again.
When the user press the home key, the onPause method is called. At this time, the application is supposed to save its state so it can be properly recovered later.
However, and if the state is taking too much time? For example, issuing a closeAllNetworkConnections that was waiting a feedback from the server, or just if the amount of information we're writting to disk is a lot of info... what would happen?
In my tests, i'm getting from 300-500 ms of time until the process is killed.
Is there a safer place to put a "save everything and quit" code so that it can safely save everything before a "kill the activity" task is issued?
Im wondering if everyone is using the Hero with ATK. I was using the app. until I realized I was not receiving emails. When I called Sprint they said I should remove the app and let the OS control the apps. Since I removed the app., I am getting all my email notifications. With out ATK. My phone is extremely lagy or bugy. It's not a major problem but I do notice the difference in the phone. I guess my question is " Should we be using ATK or not?" I would like to hear everyones thoughts on this. Im just trying to get the best use out of the phone.

Why are so many apps constantly running? I can quit all apps, plug into charger, then check it 10-15 minutes later & they are all up again. Apps like Sprint Navi, Amazon MP3, etc.....stuff I never use at all.
