Oct 19, 2010
I have an application which has 2 screens. When a value is changed in the second screen and when the first screen is called, the value must be updated on the button of first screen.
But I am not able to update the value on any of the widget of first screen. But I am able to see that I am getting the value, But when it comes to updating the same on button it does not happen.

The default behavior of an activity when BACK softkey is pressed is, GO BACK TO PREVIOUS ACTIVITY. If some the same activity is waiting for some response from server or some data updation is going on and then press BACK, I want to wait on the same screen till the current task is completely processed and then move out to the previous activity.

I have a preferences page which is defined by XML - including some default values. I use a PreferenceActivity to display and handle this page. Whenever I use this page to set the preferences the preference file on the file system is updated properly - I can see this via adb. However, whenever I go back to the settings page after have changed some of the settings, it's the defaults that are shown. Worse than that, if I press back without changing any settings, it then sets the, all back to the default. How I can get the prefs to actually show the current settings? My PreferenceActivityis created thus:
@Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this) .registerOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener(this);
setDefaults(this); super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); addPreferencesFromResource(R.xml.settings); }
The XML looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <PreferenceScreen xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<ListPreference android:id="@+id/numberOfYearsList"
android:key="numberOfYears" android:title="Number of Years to Read the Bible"
android:summary="How many years would you like to take to read through the reading plan?"
android:entries="@array/numberOfYears" android:entryValues="@array/numberOfYears"
android:dialogTitle="How Many Years?" android:defaultValue="1" />
<CheckBoxPreference android:key="ignoreDates" android:id="@+id/ignoreDatesCheckbox"
android:title="Ignore Dates" android:summary="Would you like to use the dates in the plan?"
android:defaultValue="false" /> </PreferenceScreen>

Currently, I'm using the following code across all of my activities in my app to store application level variables and carry values between activities..
prefs = this.getSharedPreferences("MyPrefs", Context.MODE_PRIVATE);
I didn't have a PreferenceActivity prior to this, but now I do and I am looking to store a few user prefs from this new PreferenceActivity in the same sharedPreferences tag, "MyPrefs".
I know I can access the PreferenceActivity SharedPrefs from my activities via
prefs = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this);
but I would like those values saved to my current sharedPreferences tag, "MyPrefs", but I'm not sure how to do this.

My app is comprised of a set of reusable Activities that other apps can reuse. For various reasons, I would like my Activities to be launched in context of the invoking Activity's process, instead of always being launched in my Activity's process (default behavior on Android). How can I achieve this?

I have following problem with my application: From my main activity ("activity 1"), there is a menu from which user can launch an action. This action will result in an Intent being received by a BroadcastReceiver, defined in my application. Finally, this BroadcastReceiver will start an activity ("activity 2") to deal with this intent.
The problem is that I have a "quit application" entry in my menu, and I can only finish() currently active activity. ie I am not able to finish "activity 1" from the menu of "activity 2". And I can't use startActivityForResult() as "activity 2" can't be started from "activity 1". Any suggestion would be much appreciated Thank you very much guys, regards.

I am trying to collect power usage statistics for the Android G1 Phone. I am interested in knowing the values of Voltage and Current, and then able to collect statistics as reported in this PDF.
I am able to get the value of Battery voltage through registering for an intent receiver to receive the Broadcast for ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED. But the problem is that Android does not expose the value of current through this SDK interface.
One way I tried is via sysfs interface, where I can view the battery current value from adb shell, using the following command
$cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_current
449
But that too works only if the phone is connected via USB interface. If I disconnect the phone, I see the value of batt_current as '0'. I am not sure why the value of current reported is zero. It should be more than zero, right?
Any suggestion / pointers for getting battery current value?

startActivity() displays the new Activity on top of the current one. But how to display it underneath instead? BTW, I'm starting an Activity from another application, if that makes a difference.

I have an app which makes use of several layout-views. Every layout - view also got a class for it, which extend the Activity class. One class for example retrieves some database values whilst offering a search form to the user. Afterwards the user can select one of those values and he gets presented with another screen which gives similar options as the one selected. Anyways, I'd like for the first Activity to be able to send an array with data (Strings for example) to the second one. Right now I show an activity by using:
Intent i = new Intent(this, activitysName.class); startActivity(i);
I have no idea whilst using this construction how I can "initialize" the new object with the String array I want to pass to it. So how should this be achieved ? Should I be using something else instead of an Intent-Activity combination ?

How do you set/pass values from one screen (activity) to another? What I have in the R.layout.main view labeled Calculator contains the code for doing calculations. The main.xml contains the layout (view) of the main screen. I have created an options menu which has another screen which shows you setup (R.layout.setup). The dialogsetup.xml contains the layout (view) for it.
When you press the menu button, you get the options menu. If you select "Setup", then it will display the setup screen. Now what I need to do is take the values from the setup screen (radio button and text values) and place them in the main screen so that when you exit the setup screen and go back to the main screen, you can take those values and use them in your main code.

I have a need where I must pass some values from an Activity to another file which extends View class (instead of Activity). Its not the normal passing of values from one activity to another. In my Activity, I will pass some co-ordinate values to the class that extends View. In this class, I will draw an image and place points over the image on the required co-ordinates. But, the problem is, I cant send values using Intent.

onCreate, MyActivity will display five TextViews. After you touch one of the five TextViews, it will hide three to four TextViews and color one red and one green or just color one green.
I can code everything up to here. But how can I pause for a few seconds and then repopulate the five TextViews with new values, unhide them and make them all white?
I tried a Timer in a new project and can attach the code and make my question less vague.
Here is the main.xml
CODE:................
Here is the TestTimer.java
CODE:.....
The issue is that the Timer executes resetAndContinue and logs two entries, but it doesn't set the TextView color from green to white and it doesn't log anymore
CODE:.............
