When we select spinner it shows a display of items which almost the device screen size. Can we minimize its width or height, I think this question was already posted by some one. But I am unable to find solution.

I'm getting a NullPointerException while attempting to create a Spinner within a dialog and can't seem to debug it because the code looks solid. Wonder if anyone else has any idea. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I get the exception at adapter.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item);
I changed the context to MyClass.this and the exception moved down to the next line, which confuses me. I'm wondering if it is the adapter having a null value but I call everything the same way I have before while not in a dialog.

I am sure that everybody can easily recur the problem I am facing. There is a Spinner in the view, which includes a few entries. When I click the Spinner, it pops up a dialog so user can choose an entry. All these are very normal and you can find such things in SDK's API demo. The problem is: when the dialog is still on focus, if you change the phone's orientation, an exception will be thrown. Something like this:

I have a spinner selection box on my activity, but now I want to remove the spinner from the main view and make the selection available by an option from the menu button. How do I get the dialog the spinner shows if I click it without having the spinner? Currently I fill the spinner using a SimpleCursorAdapter like this:

I have an Android Spinner and I'd like to get a callback when the user selects something from its popup dialog. It seems like
setOnItemClickListener() or setOnItemSelectedListener()
would be the right method to use, but neither get invoked when I select one of the items in the spinner. Is there a correct way to do this? Per commonsware's suggestion, I did the following, but my onItemSelected() method is never being called:

This seems to be an Android-wide problem, which you can see in API demos under Views -> Progress Bar -> Dialogs. Basically, if you show a progress dialog, it works as expected the first time around. If you dismiss it and show it again (without destroying the activity or anything like that), the spinning image stops spinning.
In the API Demo you can see this by clicking "Show Indeterminate", pressing back to dismiss the dialog, and clicking the button again. I've tried constructing my own progress dialog, however it shows the same problem, as the problem is with the "ProgressBar" spinning image.
I have a button that pops up with a dialog box on click. I want the dialog box to have an EditText and a Spinner inside the dialog box. I don't know how I'd set the view for it, I have the code for an AlertDialog and it works, it's just the EditText and Spinner that I need to place inside it then I can get on with the rest of the app's code. On my device (Motorola Milestone) and in the emulator this looks like the standard gray spinner widget.
On of my colleagues uses a Motorola Backflip and on his device the Spinner is black. Now its very hard to read the font in the spinner.

I have a spinner 'aperture' set up with a list of numbers, and a spinner 'mode' with two options. When a button is pushed I need a calculation to run using various inputs, including the current selection from 'aperture' and a value derived from 'mode'. How do I call the value of a spinner so I can use it in a calculation?
Also, how do I use the spinner 'mode's selection to set this other value before implimenting it in the calculation? To be more specific, if the spinner is set to Small then the value I use in the calculation is 0.015, whereas if Large is selected I need to use 0.028
My other inputs are EditText views, so right now I am set up like this:

I have a spinner widget in my activity which lets users pick a list name.
Normally, the function of the spinner is to switch between lists but for a couple of instances, I swap out the selection change listener to perform a different function with the same list of options. Once the selection has been made, the old listener is restored and life goes on.
This is a bad and buggy arrangement. Instead, I would like to have a function that just takes a selection listener and some other parameters and shows a popup list that's populated by the same cursor (or and identical cursor) as the spinner, without using the spinner itself.
Is there any way I can do this?

what is intriguing me is that the first spinner onitemselection works perfectly ( I can see the values in LogCat) then when I change selection of the 2nd spinner I am gettging an error on this line: String selected= (String) s2.getSelectedItem(); So the compiler gets insisde then onItemSelected function of the 2nd spinner but throws an Handler exceltion on s2.getSelectedItem()
why? it works perfectly for the 1st spinner.

I suppose repetitive Login dialog (if fail, continue) handling should be common and straightforward. I guess my approach must be wrong somewhere. I already spent 2 days on this and am desperate. I have a really weird problem, which I am unable to debug so far. thing is. my app needs to download something to work. So in the beginning of the onCreate() method, I check if that something is already downloaded. If not, I pop a dialog up asking the user to download it.My dialog is shown and I am clicking, so aManager.install() is called. I am passing the context because that aManager.install() pops up a ProgressDialog to show downloading progress and spawns a new thread in which everything is downloaded. So obviously before creating my dialog I make a Handler to receive the response from that aManager.install(). And the response MAY vary, because for example the internet connection isn't available (Exception raised and catched and listener called with different code).Now, when that happens (Exception) I would like to call another dialog saying "something went wrong, would you like to retry?" so another call to showDialog(DIALOG_REINSTALL) (this time with another code).thing is the showDialog() gets called (I can verify this by logging) but the dialogs doesn't show up. Instead my application JUST HANGS Does someone have a clue why it's doing this? No exception raised, absolutely nothing from logcat, I can't tell WHERE it's hanging...just see that the method is called and the dialog should be displayed.

I've set up customized voice mails for some of my contacts. The problem is my GV is defaulting to the option that answers "Please enter the number you are trying to reach." Even when my wife enters my real number she doesn't get her customized greeting. Initially when I started GV it would default automatically to her customized voice mail. I'm not sure how to make this go back to the way it was. I hate to have everyone who calls me to re-enter my number in order to reach me.

I am coming from BB Storm 2 where i could have every email, sms, mms, whatever from any contact display a different LED light/pattern and make a different noise depending on who it is coming from. Here on my Droid X i have one alert noise, for EVERYTHING. And no LED tweaking.
I DL'd Blink...which was useless, didn't display 3/4 of the colors it was supposed to do. Uninstalled. I had heard HandcentSMS lets you customize stuff...kinda. I could finally make my SMS make a differnt noise then any other alert. But still can't customize it per person/sender. I could tweak the LED thankfully. But this only affects SMS. Not email. And it too didn't display all the colors it had listed
Ringdroid lets me make every caller have a differnt ringtone (cool), and i can save alerts, but not custom per person. Are there any apps out there that let me customize alerts for email/mms/sms and so forth. So i can have it blink the LED a differnt color from certain people and make a noise when said email, mms, sms is from certain people? Or am i just SOL and need to deal with the fact that i can't do that on a Droid?
In so many ways this phone is lightyears ahead of my Storm 2...but in so many other ways it is far more basic and simplistic in many things and doesn't allow the customization.
I am playing with the AlterDialog with a customized ListView in it.
After the ListView is added into the AlterDialog, there is a centered gradient separator line below the title of the alter dialog, it is just above the ListView.
Is there any way to get rid of it or change its color ? I do not want to show it.
IN our current project, I need to make a UI describled as follows.
Basically it is a text input, it will display a string returned from server , such as "I like banana". The word "banana" will be in red color. When user clicks "banana", it will have a dropdown list shows "apple, orange, pear". User would be able to select one of them, like apple. So the text in that UI would be "I like apple".
How could I build such a UI component in Android.
I want to create an application that loads an image as a map (a building of a floor) and add coordinates to it. Can anyone has an idea how to do it? I can do it maybe with MapView and change the resource of the map to my image but it is still not working.
