I'm setting background color based on a given state of an object in each row in a list. That part is working just fine but when I set the background color on the outermost layout the row no longer highlights when selected. Probably a specific attribute I'm not setting/changing?

I have a list of checked items. I used the simple_list_item_multiple_choice.xml layout from android from the list. My requirement for this list is- When I check the checkbox of an item, the background color of that row will change. (For e.g. black background to green)- Then when I uncheck the checkbox, the background color of that row will back to original (green to black) Is there any way to implement that? What I want here is different from the orange color when you scroll the list, which is made by default for the list in Android.

I want to select text from Webview and than Highlight it.I am able to get the selected text using *emulateshiftHeld() *method but If i try to search it in file and than Underline it the problem is that it doesn't know the position of text so it underlines that word in whole file as many time it is repeated.So i want to find the position of that text (which will be known only at runtime) in webview. I have an expandable list with a custom adapter. Everything works great but there are two problems.
First whenever a group or child has a custom background color set the orange selector does not show up. If I dont setup a color the selector draws nicely and also the fade away for context menus works.
Second, some of my text inside a list item is linkified. Whenever a link is present the selector does not draw again. It seems that the click event is handled by the internal link view instead of propagating to the list view.
I have to develop one android application.
Here is the scenario:There are many images in a linearlayout. When selected, the layout should be displayed with another(gradient_bg_hover.xml) background. This works well now.
Now, I would like that when I open a new activity and come back to this one, the last selected layout should still be the highlighted one (with the (gradient_bg_hover.xml) background).

Is it possible to disable title bar display dynamically after setting the content view by setting the NoTitlebar theme?
All the posts I have read told that any title bar changes we can make only before setContentView() call.
To give the user of my app an indication which field currently has the focus I am trying to change the background color of some of my fields depending on the current state, however, I am having troubles understanding Androids Color State List Resources:
There is this example at the bottom of http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/color-list-resource.html. If I try exactly the same, i.e. if I want to adapt the textColor , things do work. However, if I try an only slightly different thing, namely to adapt the background color, things do not work and I don't understand why? Why is this so inconsistent?
To make it simpler to understand what I am trying to do, I append my misc. .xml files:

If I run this as shown here, it works, i.e. I get a button whose text color changes depending on whether the button is focuses, pressed, etc.
If I uncomment the lower button, where I just flipped the attribute values for textColor and background I get an exception, stating

What the heck am I missing here? Why is that color state list acceptable as a text color but not as a background color? How does one specify a view's background color depending on the view's state?
I've a border set around a drawable using LinearLayout (bg: rounded rectangle).
The drawable and the border is used as a tab view. I'd like to change the border color of the tab when it is selected.
How can I do this?
Color state list doesn't seem to work as the view being selected is not the shape (i.e border) but the tab. Drawable state list doesn't seem to work either as I'm trying to swivel between views, not drawables. Moreover, I can't find any "onSelectedListener" of the sort...
Seems like it should be pretty straightforward. In the main menu I chose "email" and added my pop servers URL and the next line asks for the password which I entered however it will not let me highlight either the "manual set up" or the "next" icons in a gray bar just below the password box. Tried it several times now. Certainly a Droid should be able to handle pop server mail??
