Android : Save Mms - GMail Attachment / Difference Between 2 URI?
Oct 2, 2010
I'm trying to save attachment (mms and GMail)
Uri Uri;
Uri = Uri.parse("content://mms/part/" + mmsPartId);
Uri = Uri.parse("content://gmail-ls/messages/email@gmail.com/messageId/attachments/0.1/BEST/true");
InputStream inputStream = getContentResolver().openInputStream(Uri); openInputStream works fine for mms, but for GMail i got error:
"open attachments that are on the sd card with the direct path to the attachment"
I don't understand what "direct path to the attachment"?

I need to open files with custom extension using my app. I am able to do this using Intent filters when the file is in my sd card. I can also view the 'download' and 'preview' buttons if the file is sent as a Gmail attachment. However, when I clicked the download/preview buttons, I got the message - "Sorry, the attachment could not be downloaded".
I thought this was an issue with my app. But I had a random idea and installed "Download All Files" app on my phone.URL....Then, when I click download button in Gmail, both Download All Files and My App are proposed for downloading the file. I chose my app, and everything works fine!!
[HIGH] <intent-filter >
<action android:name="android.intent.action.VIEW" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.BROWSABLE" />
<data android:mimeType="*/*" />
<data android:scheme="content" android:host="*"
[code]...

Someone emailed me a pic to my gmail account and I can't view it on my phone. All I get is large white space with a little blue box in the middle with a question mark in it. But when I check my gmail from a browser (on the phone or a computer) I can see the pic just fine.

Found an odd issue in regards to the default gmail app. When attempting to attach a file to an email it constantly gives me an error saying the attached file is too large? I thought that GMails attachment limit was now at 25meg? the files im trying to attach are around the 3meg mark. Strangely if I setup my GMail account via pop in the MAIL app I can attach the file without issues. A bug on my phone or is anyone else having the odd issue? Google overlooked something? Is it fixed in froyo?

HTC One (2013) running 4.4.2 from Verizon. When I open a picture attachment that someone sends me in Gmail, a black screen comes up and the picture is not visible. If I hit back button, and then re-open the picture attachment, it will show it in full screen. Seems like an odd bug, how do I get it to show when I click it the first time?

I tried e-mailing the video to myself, but when I try to download it from Gmail, it says "unable to fetch attachment" How can I send video to someone else? Is there a way to change the extension?

I have an HTC Droid Eris, and am curious about the different email apps that came pre-installed. What exactly is the difference between the Mail app and the Gmail app (other than the obvious fact that Gmail only caters to Gmail accounts)? The only email account I use is a Gmail one - is there an advantage to using one over the other for me? I also noticed that the Mail app starts automatically, even if for now I'm not using it at all.

What is the difference in the "Email" and the "Gmail" app on the phone. Wich one should i set up my email with. I use gmail for both of my email accounts. Right now both of my account are showing up under the gmail app, but when i click on email only one shows up. Am i missing something here? How is the best way to set up my email?Also, i do not think my phone is vibrating if i have my email sent straight to a label in my gmail account. Is it supposed to be this way? is there anyway to change it so it will still alert me?

I use gmail. I get attachments. I am trying to find a means to be able to save these attachments directly to SD card. For example,
jpgs/png/gif, not a problem. docs/xls/txt, I can peview, but not save them. problem is if I get a 3g2 file, I cannot preview or save the file. Sometimes I get videos from client's phones and I can nor longer view them remotely. With my winmo phone, I was able to at least detach them to the SD card. Bottom line, is there ANY way, app or otherwise, to just simply have a "download" button?

I sent myself an attachement - sent to my gmail account. I can see the email, can see the attached file's name. Can't do a damn thing with it! Can't even SAVE to phone... wtf? Am I missing something? I mean - it's about as stupid as having segregated "Gmail" and "Email" apps on a single phone.

I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple. At some point I had an option to save new contacts as a phone contact or a gmail contact. But I've lost that option. Now whenever I enter a new number in my phone I have to manually enter it into my gmail account as well. (Lets not even get into the pain in the butt Google Apps account which will NOT sync my contacts from my personal domain) What am I missing here? I've already lost one gals number that I really wanted to call when I did a factory reset and forgot to manually put it in gmail.

Believe me when I say that I never thought in a million years it would be possible to have a smartphone with a worse mail app than the iphone. Then the Droid came. I mean come on! We can't save pictures, can't batch delete, hell we can't even click most links! Maybe I'm venting a little, but It's kind of embarassing when your a company's web apps work better than their natively installed apps that come pre-installed on a phone whose OS you developed!

I want to open a specific type of file that my app can already send over email as an attachment. I need to be able to have the android email app choose my app to download or open that specific file type. I can't figure out how to set up an intent filter that would let me do that though. Anyone know how this is done?

I never got this to work on a real device, got the email but no attachment, also when installing K9 on a emulator and then sending the email I see the mail in the outbox with a size of 0 bytes:
public static void sendFile(Context context) { File exportDir = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(), "mydir"); if (!exportDir.exists()) { exportDir.mkdirs(); } String csvFile = exportDir + "/file.csv"; File file = new File(csvFile); if(file.exists()) { Intent sendIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_SEND); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_SUBJECT, "CSV file"); sendIntent.setType("text/csv"); //sendIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_GRANT_READ_URI_PERMISSION); //sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.parse("file://" + Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + "/mydir/file.csv")); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.parse("file:///sdcard/ mydir/file.csv")); context.startActivity(Intent.createChooser(sendIntent, "Send CSV file")); } else { Util.displayToast(context, R.string.no_csv_file); } }
