How to create an HTTP request object of POST type in android? Which class need to be extend or what method need to implement? How to establish connection to a server? Actually i want to connect to a microsoft exchange server, and then i have to send a request to it using HTTP.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to upload a video to an api and I was wondering how you show a progress bar show and also dismiss it when an upload has finished? Also, while were at it, do you see anything wrong with my pattern.compile for my edit boxes?
Code:
public class Loadvid extends AsyncTask <Object,Integer,String>{
EditText etxt_user = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.user_email);
EditText etxt_pass = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.friend_email);
[code]...
But it doesn't work. When i click on the button to send, it shows the handler for 2 seconds then brings up an error close.Error log.
Everything is in the title.
On the official documentations it is stated that Note that services, like other application objects, run in the main thread of their hosting process and AsyncTask only works if it is executed in the UIThread.
So is it possible to use AsyncTask in a Service class? code...
What I want is just to have the AsyncTaskTask showing a progressbar an external class. To do this I am passing the context as you can see in the main class. But whatever I try I get NullPointerException.
Working code examples.
Using Android 2.2 by the way.
main:
CODE:............
Update:
I have a follow up question: Using the above code, is it possible to return a value from the onPostExecute method back to the main class, somehow? (Sorry about beeing noobish)
I have tried something like this:
String result = new AsyncClass(this).execute();
and then a method that return back a string. But I can't do that because i got:
Type mismatch: cannot convert from AsyncTask<String,Void,Void> to String
I'm trying to connect my app to a MySQL database to retrieve data. Obviously I have to do this in a new thread hence why I chose AsyncTask, something I'm new to.
I have included Toasts to tell me if there are problems when trying to carry out any part of it. However these toasts are not showing on the UI thread. I tested this out by turning off the server my SQL database is on so that it could trip the first toast. It didn't show it though and instead it gave me a force close error. When my server is running I have no issues and although I haven't coded the bit to retrieve data yet the code below does connect to my database and at least lets me view the page "CurrentSeasonDrivers".
Here is my code and the logcat showing the errors below that:
package com.android.history;
import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.InputStream;
import java.io.InputStreamReader;
import java.util.ArrayList;
[code]....
All I want it to do is show a toast if the application cannot connect to the server instead of force closing.
I was wondering if it's possible to call specific methods defined within the AsynTask class from another class and/or service ?
In my specific case I have a Service playing some sounds, but the sound is selected from a List with available sounds...
When a sounds is selected it is downloaded from my home server, this takes some time (not much, let's say around the 3-4 seconds, the sounds/effects aren't big in size)...
So my problem at the moment is that I have a service to play those sounds, and when I select one I wanted to show a progressdialog... The way (if I understood correctly) is to use an AsyncTask, but the only thing the AsyncTask will do is telling my Service to play a specific sound from my server... So there is no "callback" from the service to the Asynctask...
How can I call a running AsyncTask, which sits in another class, and tell him all work is done and thus he can stop showing the ProgressDialog ? Or am I over-engineering it and there are other ways ?
I'm trying to execute code from Android's help page, but it doesn't work for me:
CODE:..........
When I execute task, doInBackground is invoked fine, but onPostExecute is never invoked. Tested on Milestone with 2.1 OS
I tried google's camera API sample code. I found there are 2 problems: 1> It only can take picture in Landscape orientation 2> After click the space "key", the application crashes.

I'm breaking into GUI programming with android, trying to compile and analyze Lunar Lander sample program. The instructions for using Eclipse say to select "Create project from existing source" but that option doesn't exist. If I select File->New->Project I can select "Java project from Existing Ant Buildfile". Using that I've tried selecting various xml files as "Ant Buildfile" but all give me the "The file selected is not a valid Ant buildfile" error.I just want to run GUI sample projects, preferably with Eclipse. Any useful tips will be appreciated.
