Android :: Process Of Interrupt Testing?
May 11, 2009
What is the process of Interrupt testing of Android applications. Looking to know how to destroy all the background activities of the application any time of the test and see if the application is behaving well. Any good place to know the detailed procedure. Is Android has any thing Andriod Certified (3rd party testing to certify) like the Java Verified cert approach. I've been exploring the Android test package and I'm very confused on how to implement functional testing for endpoint-to-endpoint.
Consider the example below, I have 4 activities: 1. A Contact List Activity 2. A View Contact Activity 3. An Add/Edit Contact Activity 4. A Sync Contact List activity
I want to automate a few tests that will go through multiple test cases simulating a user experience: From launching the application, to selecting 'Add contact;' opening the add contact activity, entering data, saving it, going back to the list activity, and verifying the new contact was saved properly.
As I understand it, ActivityInstrumentationTestCase<T extends Activity> and ActivityUnitTestCase<T extends Activity>, are only useful for testing single activity functionality.
But what if I need to switch between 2 or more activities inside a single functional test case?

In my Android application user can fill database with imported data, then perform predefined, complex SQL query. With some data pattern, query will take very long (minutes and more on HTC Hero), while common usage will not exceed 10-15 seconds.
Is there any way to cancel pending SQLite query on Android? Timeout would be as good as well, partial results are not required. I'm performing query within AsyncTask.doInBackground()
I know best way is optimize query or change app logic, but in this case results depends on user knowledge anyway, so I'd like to help those who enter troublesome pattern.

Sometimes the DDMS in the Eclipse not listing the process.
To do the debug in this condition,
1) Is their any way force the DDMS to list the process?
2) Any command to attach the process from the command line?

At a certain point in my program, when I'm completely done with my service, my activity executes unbindService() and stopService() -- yet the process persists. I can tell that it persists because I run "ps" in "adb -e shell":
CODE:.............
"adb logcat", I can show you the sequence of events:
ACTIVITY: context.unbindService(serviceConnection);
SERVICE: onUnbind();
ACTIVITY: stopService(serviceIntent); & returns true!
SERVICE: onDestroy();
First, my activity calls unbindService(serviceConnection). According to the documentation, unbindService() will "Disconnect from an application service. You will no longer receive calls as the service is restarted, and the service is now allowed to stop at any time." So that is fine, and it is happening.
Appropriately, we see the onUnbind() call happen on the service side. According to the documentation, onUnbind() is called when "all clients have disconnected from a particular interface published by the service." So this confirms the correct service connection is being passed, and that the service is responding accordingly.
Next, my activity calls stopService(serviceIntent), and returns true. According to the documentation, stopService() does the following: "If there is a service matching the given Intent that is already running, then it is stopped and true is returned; else false is returned." Again, this is happening and returning true.
In response, the service's onDestroy() method is called. According to the documentation, onDestroy() is "Called by the system to notify a Service that it is no longer used and is being removed. The service should clean up any resources it holds (threads, registered receivers, etc) at this point. Upon return, there will be no more calls in to this Service object and it is effectively dead."
At this point I expect the process to disappear from the process table. Yet it remains indefinitely. But why?
Also, the process is so persistent that I can bind to it again, and I see that it is the same exact process responding because the PID (process ID) is the same!

So, I decided to give Tridents ROM a try about 10-minutes ago.
I used ROM Manager, backed-up my old ROM, then downloaded Velocity 0.2.
Now, my phone will do nothing, it turns on and shows the red Droid eye, then when it's time to go to the home screen I get pop-up after pop-up saying that "The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
I have no way of getting on my phone at all, what can I do?

I Just installed a new theme (Live Wire) for my Lithium Mod Rom. Don't know if there is a connection, but when I need to update an app, I get the message something like "process android media process stopped unexpectedly" and it will not allow the update. Everything else works well. I have turned it off for awhile, and have done a battery pull.

I'm using Xperia x10 mini. Whenever I try to add a contact to my phonebook, before clicking save this message appears: "The process android.process.acore has stopped unepectedly. Please try again." And I have no other choice but to click "force close"... Another thing is, even though my contacts' names appears in the messages in my inbox, when I click on the phonebook icon, the phonebook is empty...

Since I installed 2.1 (betas and now official) the notifications mute any music or podcast I am listening to through the headphone jack. If I'm using the internal speaker, the notification plays, but the music or podcast is still audible. Is everyone else having this happen, and if so, is there a workaround?

I've found differences in the behaviour of notifications on different ROMs, notably in the stock Jellybean ROM for my i9100 a notification will:
1. Mute all other sounds
2. Play the notification sound
3. Unmute other sounds
Whereas when I have AOKP installed the sounds both play at once, as in no muting occurs and the sound is overlayed.

I just got a new 2014 Chevy Sonic and I have paired my Huawei H881C to the car stereo. Once for "Phone" and once for "Music". Right now I can play the car radio music OR press a button on the car stereo that says "Media" and select "Bluetooth" which turns the car radio music off and lets the GPS voice directions come through the car stereo speakers but no music. I can't have both, the car radio music and GPS voice directions at the same time. Seems like the music volume should mute while the GPS directions are given then return to the previous volume and continue playing the music I had going. Instead it's "either or". ?

So since I got the phone on Thursday, at random, I'll get these popup crash messages, that say "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly" it has a "Force Close" button, which doesn't seem to change anything other than to acknowlege the message. It will happen at random, sometimes while I'm on the home screen, or sending a text message, but more recently, as I was trying to manage & link contacts. When I searched for this message it seemed to be related to people using Gmail, but I always get this message when I'm doing other things and not even touching my Gmail account.

I've searched around the forums (here and SDX forums) and although it seems the few people that had this issue were able to solve it, my case seems a bit different.
It's different because of the people I've read solving the issue, it was a problem with something they changed / removed with gmail / gmail storage or talk / talk storage. And when they cleared the cache or re-installed the problem went away. Also, it seemed that the same people had a problem with downloading from the market...
Neither of the above apply to me, but yet I'm still getting this FC error all the time!
I was helping a friend with their CL14 Moment out of the box...and went from stock 1.5 CL14 to 2.1 DD03 w/Joey recovery to EclairDD10 and v5 root. I then did the streaming media fix, and then the private app (build.prop) fix (all previously done with my phone no problems). I did all of these update right in a row, and after my last re-boot the FC error (process com.google.process.gapps has stoped unexpectedly) started showing up and won't go away.
The only .apk / odex files I removed were the preloaded Sprint apps
Does anybody have any other ideas on how I can get this FC error to stop? I've tried clearing the cache / data for all the mail / talk apps, rebooted, cleared dalvik cache...

I am trying to do some low level performance testing related to device processor cores through adb which I feel it is affected by Android background services and system stuff.
As I know that the Android boot sequence stages are as follow:
1.Execute Boot ROM code.
2.Execute the boot loader.
3.Load the Linux kernel.
4.Launch Zygote, which initializes the Dalvik VM.
5.System server which loads the Android system.
So my question is how can I interrupt this sequence to force it stop on stage 3 to load Linux kernel. This can implement my intermediary performance testings before loading again Android system.
Does Fastboot or Clockworkmod recovery can load my device to a kind of Linux kernel?

Is there a way to craft a daemon process as to make it "unlistable" to a process viewer?
OR
is there a way to dynamically change a process name?
I'd like to design a security application without having to modify the firmware, if possible (yes I know about "security through obscurity"...).

I have a rooted samsung captivate with sideloading enabled. After experimenting with different wifi tethering apps from the unofficial market, I began experiencing difficulties with my wifi connection. Even after uninstalling every app that I thought was changing the wifi state, the problem still persists. I can turn on the wifi and it will act normally for about 30 seconds before turning off without user intervention. In dmesg, the error is as follows: 'mmc1: Got command interrupt 0x00060001 even though no command operation was in progress.' Is this caused by an app or is this a more complicated problem?

I don't know if this is kosher, but I wanted to see if anyone would want to test an app I built. I don't want to release an app to the market without getting out all the bugs I can, but I'm a lone developer trying to build apps on the side in my free time. I don't know many people with Droids, so I'm trying to reach out to the community. I built an app I call "Next Track on Shake". Not a good name, (and I'm up for suggestions for a better name) but I can't think of anything else to explain its function. I listen to alot of music, usually on shuffle, and I hate having to wake the phone up, unlock the screen, open the music player, and change the track. The new versions of Android require PIN or Password when you use a corporate account, and that adds another step in changing tracks. I built an app that allows you to shake the phone, whether awake or not, and it will move to the next track for you. I also added the ability to customize the shake; you can set how hard or how fast you need to shake the phone to change the track. The default shake is a good setting for most people, but alot of people jog with the phone on their arm or hip and would need to adjust the strength of the shake so as to not accidentally change tracks. I've also added the ability to stop/start the service when needed, and I display an ongoing notification when the service is running. When the phone is rebooted, the app checks the preferences, and only starts the app if you had the service running before reboot.

I have created an app which needs some testing done. I have tested it on the HTC Hero (UK version) and the HTC Tattoo. Worked well on both the devices. I wanted to test it on the newer android phones like the Droid or the Nexus One. If anyone could help me out with the testing, there is a link to the .apk file below. This app does functions like silencing the ringtone when the phone is flipped, switching on the speakerphone when in call etc.

I'm prepping my first app for publishing and am a bit confused about how to properly test my <uses-permission> tags.. if i don't specify any permissions my app runs with no complaints on my G1. I tried installing it via "adb install" as well as with the eoeAppInstaller (as somebody had recommended). Also, the app is signed with my own certificate (not the debug cert). given that it works fine with no permissions (btw, it accesses camera and sd card), how will I know if I've set all of the proper <uses- permission> tags?

Can someone with a Nexus One download AppFriend from android market (qr code -http://www.zappmarket.com/catalog/27) and give me a stack trace of the error message? I've got reports coming in that it crashes on startup (and the nice 1 star reviews that follow). The code that it is breaking on is really simple, so I'm not sure what the incompatibility could be, as it works on G1 and Magic.

We have many phones, but we don't--and probably never will--have all of them.
It's frustrating that some phones cannot see our apps in the market, and we'd like to know which phones those are.
We'd like to have a simple way to have our app tested on each phone, but at this point there's no easy way to do that.
My question is: what would we as developers be willing to do to get these needs met? Is there enough demand for someone to buy all possible Android devices and charge a nominal fee for these services?
We would pay a small fee to have out app accessed and downloaded on all phones--this would give us a report of which phones could access our app. We would pay a fee to have a step-by-step test ran on each possible device so we could know it worked on that device, at least minimally.

I have some questions about the testing of bluetooth.
I have tried the bluetooth chat and it worked pretty well on my two Andriod 2.1 based mobile phones.
However, this test can only be done only by someone who has 2 android phones and the version must be 2.1.
I assume this is a big issue because i looked into the CTS related to Bluetooth topic and it doesnt explain much about it.
The regular expectation for testing Bluetooth should be:
# Scan for other Bluetooth devices # Query the local Bluetooth adapter for paired Bluetooth devices # Establish RFCOMM channels # Connect to other devices through service discovery # Transfer data to and from other devices
In my case:
I would like to implement the application to send the file(image file, mp3, whatever...) from my Android 2.1 mobile to any device with Bluetooth module.
