Jun 21, 2009I am trying to populate a spinner depending on another spinner's selected item, my code is the following:

what is intriguing me is that the first spinner onitemselection works perfectly ( I can see the values in LogCat) then when I change selection of the 2nd spinner I am gettging an error on this line: String selected= (String) s2.getSelectedItem(); So the compiler gets insisde then onItemSelected function of the 2nd spinner but throws an Handler exceltion on s2.getSelectedItem()
why? it works perfectly for the 1st spinner.

On my device (Motorola Milestone) and in the emulator this looks like the standard gray spinner widget.
On of my colleagues uses a Motorola Backflip and on his device the Spinner is black. Now its very hard to read the font in the spinner.
What do I have to do to use my own view for the spinner? I don't mind to have the gray spinner on all devices, but it should always look the same on all devices.

Jan 25, 2010I have a spinner 'aperture' set up with a list of numbers, and a spinner 'mode' with two options. When a button is pushed I need a calculation to run using various inputs, including the current selection from 'aperture' and a value derived from 'mode'. How do I call the value of a spinner so I can use it in a calculation?
Also, how do I use the spinner 'mode's selection to set this other value before implimenting it in the calculation? To be more specific, if the spinner is set to Small then the value I use in the calculation is 0.015, whereas if Large is selected I need to use 0.028
My other inputs are EditText views, so right now I am set up like this:

That is not the actual equation, it is just a test to make sure everything connects properly. How would I call the value of spinner 'aperture' and the Small/Large spinner 'mode'

Jan 25, 2010I have a spinner widget in my activity which lets users pick a list name.
Normally, the function of the spinner is to switch between lists but for a couple of instances, I swap out the selection change listener to perform a different function with the same list of options. Once the selection has been made, the old listener is restored and life goes on.
This is a bad and buggy arrangement. Instead, I would like to have a function that just takes a selection listener and some other parameters and shows a popup list that's populated by the same cursor (or and identical cursor) as the spinner, without using the spinner itself.
Is there any way I can do this?

It's easy to add them to strings.xml. But I still doubt why I need to localize every string. I don't think the strings like '1024' (pure number) or '80 x 25' need to be localized. Can't I set some strings to be non-localized? I searched SDK 1.6 documents, but can't find any help.

Jun 3, 2009I finally decided to use styles and themes instead of tediously setting attributes for each individual view. I was able to get the style to work when I set it on android:textAppearance, but when I try to just set it right on the style attribute like below, it no longer applies.This is happening to me for Buttons as well as TextViews. What I want is to be able to have a few different styles for text views and buttons and then just set the style on each button or text view.The style will need to define textSize, textColor, background and maybe a few others.Since background and some other things are not textAppearance,I need to use the general style attribute.

I'm trying to let the android:prompt attribute be passed onto the spinner, which means I need to catch it in the constructor which passes my the AttributeSet and set it on the spinner. I get back 0, which means it didn't find the attribute.I also did a ta.count() which returned 0. So I'm not getting anything back.My XML simply defines an android:prompt value.

I have reduced the page to this:

And what causes the exception is the '&' inside the href attribute value.

What I would like the dependent preference to be enabled when the other is not checked and disabled when it is checked. Maybe the issue isn't with android:dependency maybe there is an xml attribute that I can add to make the default for that preference disabled and then android:dependency will toggle it the opposite way like I want. I tried setting android:enabled="false" in the preference and it disables it like I want but even with it being dependent on the other preference it didn't enable it like I had hoped.

Aug 8, 2010I'm having some trouble accessing attributes like DURATION and DATE_MODIFIED of video and image. My app access these attributes for both type of data but if I take a picture or shoot a video the related attributes are not immediately available through content provider e.g. for DURATION for that specific video it returns 0.
If I restart the phone the attribute for the newly shoot video or picture taken becomes available.
The other way to make the attributes available is to plug in and out your phone to a computer through usb cable. Once that is done the attributes are available.
