General :: Excluding Specific Apps From Titanium Backup Schedules

Apr 16, 2012

How can we put a negative filter on Titanium Backup so that it excludes specific apps instead of selecting for it (as does the default positive filter)?

For example, I want to exclude Seek Droid from TB's "Backup New Apps" schedule, so that I will back up everything that's been recently installed, but not Seek Droid.

Android :: TI Backup Schedules

Nov 8, 2010

I just bought a titanium backup license and I'm looking at the schedules feature and am a little lost in the options. The choices are kind of vague.

Anyone have a recommended list of backup tasks to do? Is the upload to dropbox automated with any regularity or do I need to do that manually too?

Right now I'm thinking backup all system data every night. I'm assuming that will get all sms and everything else. Then maybe once a week backup all user apps + system data. Will this make sure I have the newest version of my apps? Or should I be using backup all new apps & newer versions? Not really sure what the difference is.

Android :: How Emulator Schedules Application Threads?

Sep 22, 2010

Are there any limits on the number of threads or any constraints on how the emulator (under Eclipse) schedules the application threads? I get suspended threads that don't really wait on anything but rather get bumped out from execution time. I will try using the Debug class to get some statistics on the thread alloc etc. even though the DDMS does that already. One example is, I have a simple class that simply prints a '.' every 3 seconds - well, the LogCat shows the emulator collecting garbage objects but the thread is suspended and does not print the '.'

General :: TiBackup Schedules - Run Only On AC Power?

Mar 16, 2012

I just had TiBackup pro kill my battery by turning on at the scheduled time (2am), and staying on for 5 hours -- until it brought my battery to 0%.

The battery history page shows it turned on my screen as well.

First, how I can make TiBackup never do anything ever, unless I'm charging?

Second, is there any way to know why it hung? It was running the "Redo backups for modified data" schedule.

General :: How To Have Different Notification Schedules For Different Email Accounts

Mar 20, 2014

How do I have different notification schedules for different email accounts?

Both email accounts are on gmail.
1. email account is personal. So notifications are ok from the morning to the evening.
2. email account is a work account. I don't want it notifiying me or making sounds unless it's mon-Fri 8am - 430pm.
I must have person emails from the personal email be able to make notification beeps durring the weekend days but I don't want the work email to cause notification sounds during the weekend.

I'm flexible to download email apps or configure. I flexible to have one email app for both accounts. Or 2 email apps , one per each account.

General :: Capture Stylus Hover Events Before Get To Apps

May 13, 2014

I'm trying to work with a custom build of Android based on KitKat to incorporate a stylus, copying some of the functionality (though not code) from Samsung which sells Android-with-stylus builds for e.g. the Note 3. I'm not including details of the specific device because right now I am working on a custom dev device and my aim is to write code which is generic enough to be usable from any Android (based on KitKat). The build (written by others) already incorporates drivers and sends stylus events correctly as motion events etc. Programming at the app level I can receive onHover, ontouch, onClick etc

The specific functionality I am trying to achieve is to pick up a stylus-button-click while hovering. It's perfectly possible to do this in any app, using an onGenericMotion Listener.

However, I want to make my "stylus-action" have system-wide effect - so that anywhere (in any other app, or in the launcher or whatever) I will pick up the event (prior to any other app) and bring up my custom menu. (just like AirCommand in Samsung Note 3) I guess in my custom Android this would then make that particular action somewhat protected or unusable for other users, but I'm ok with that.

In older Android (prior to ICS) you could try something by putting up a System Overlay (i.e in regular app code, without hacking the ROM at all), but this is no longer possible.

This is not an attempt to tapjack or whatever, I understand why this functionality has been removed from the domain of the regular programmer, and I don't want to regress my ROM back to pre-ICS behaviour by allowing the System Overlay hack. Now I am programming the system (if my change is good enough I'd like to submit it back to AOSP) so I would like to know the best method to address this. Since Samsung have already done this, it must be legal (using legal in the terms of "Android will allow it"), and I want to do it right.

Is it possible to write something similar to the System Overlay when you are running from a system service? Or is there a good choke-point to capture events before they are broadcast to the current running apps?

I was looking at AndroidXRef /frameworks/base/core/java/android/view/View.java specifically in the function dispatchHoverEvent() which looks like a promising place. My naive idea is that I would place code here checking the MotionEvent to see if the button is pressed and if it is, don't call any listeners and instead call my little menu app (or broadcast a custom message, or something anyway). However, I've never written code on the ROM level before (LOTS of experience writing app code) so I don't know if this is a really bad point or a good point to add in code. Should I be putting things at a higher level or a lower one? Will this capture all events or not? Is it all just trial and error?

Motorola Droid X :: Google Calendars / No Support Schedules Added

Sep 2, 2010

From my computer, I can log into my Google calendar and not only does it have my personal calendar, but it also includes the weather, US Holidays, and various sports schedules that I have chosen. On my Droid X, I was able to add the weather & US Holidays to my calendar, but not the sports schedules.

Also, I previously had a BlackBerry, and anytime I would accept Facebook events from my BlackBerry, it would automatically add it to my calendar (which was synced with my Google calendar). I don't think my Droid X has this same feature.

Android :: Tracking A Subway Map

Nov 1, 2010

let's say i want to build a smartphone app that tells a user when/where to get off a subway station. i can think of two ways of doing this:

1) using GPS and map of the subway routes, track the location of the user and notifies him when the destination is reached

2) have him press start when he gets on a train as the train starts (which may not be realistic because the user could simply forget to do this), use the known travel time from starting station to end station, and simply notifies him when the time is up.

Android :: Mileage Tracking App

Sep 13, 2010

I've been using an app called Driver Log to track my mileage I drive for work. The app is simple, but it works. It has a start button and and end button. You press start and gets your current location. You press End when you get where you're going and it gets your end destination. Then it calculates the distance and uploads it to a Google docs spreadsheet. Again, it's simple, but it works.

The problem is that under 2.2 it doesn't work well. I gets your starting destination, but if the phone sleeps before you get to your destination, this is lost so your whole trip is a bust. The app is no longer in the market so I can assume the developer has no plans on fixing this. Can anyone suggest a similar app?

Android :: Expense Tracking / Tracker App

Jul 8, 2010

I wanted to introduce to you the expense tracking app, ProOnGo Expense. It simplifies the entire expense recording process by letting users create their expense reports just by taking pictures of their receipts. Users can then export their expense reports as an Excel spreadsheet or they can sync ProOnGo Expense with an accounting system like QuickBooks Pro. We also offer the ability for employees to export their expenses in their company's expense report template.Users can also use our Web Portal to access their previous expenses, make changes or delete them, or if their business is signed up with ProOnGo, they can submit, approve or deny the expense. The web portal also let's users customize the expense categories in the app. If there are unique expense categories, such as Horse Feed, users can make the changes via the Web Portal and the app will be updated. And just recently, we've added a new feature that allows users to submit their receipts to the Receipt Reader from their email. So a user just has to attach the receipt images to an email and send it to ProOnGo, and the merchant name, date and total amount will be extracted from each receipt and generated as an expense.

Android :: Tracking Down Libdvm Crash

My app is running into the following crash and I'm having a hard time diagnosing it. We have multiple background threads (including a couple pthreads started via JNI that are making calls back up to Java occasionally), but none of them are reporting errors . Any suggestions on how to go about isolating this? There are no symbols in libdvm, so I've been unable to figure out where the stack trace points. This has happened 3 times so far, with the same stack trace each time.

Just wondering if it is as good as it claims to be, all the sites I have found about it seem to be nothing more than canned marketing material, that concerns me a bit.

Any other suggestions? Needs to be fairly stealthy this is a teenager we are dealing with afterall will probably be pretty familiar with the phone fast.

Other though was just to install WaveSecure not give her the pin number for it and tell her it's in case the phone gets stolen.

It would be hidden inside the phone so you couldn't see it but if anyone ever steals your phone, you can call the phone tracking systems company and find out where it is/who stole it? I think this would be useful because everyone wants this phone and after 90 days of this phone, you can unlock it so I'm pretty sure everyone wants to keep their phone safe.
