View 15 RepliesHi,
I'm planning to use my website to provide updates for my android application whenever the user decides to perform an update( in case there is one available) . I'm thinking to use http requests for the communication between the user and the server, so whenever there is a new update the server sents back to the user the link to download the apk of the update through the android browser. So far I think it should work !?!. But once I have the apk of the new update on the card ,and the installed old version of the application how do I actually perform the update ?
What right now would you consider the coolest, original looking ROM that still has good speed. I look at a lot of the ROMs and they all begin to look the same to me. I like MIUI Rom but that's not for the Eris and yes I know it mimics the iphone. Any other ROMs that are speedy yet really cool looking?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI've been running smoked glass 6.01 for about a week now and before that SG 5.01 for about a month. Other than bugless beast, I haven't tried any ROMs out. I'm quite pleased with SG, it seems stable and speedy. I'm kind of wanting to try out something new just for giggles.
View 32 Replies View RelatedI was just curious how often you reboot your phones? Since I've stopped using a task killer and letting android manage things, I've been having to do it twice a day to keep it speedy and usable. Usually in the morning I reboot, read my rss feeds, check this forum & facebook (browser), some emails and some light texting. Once I get to working around 7:30am (I work landscaping) I pop in the earbuds and listen to soma fm with droid live lite till lunch at 11:15. Lunch time I plug in the phone for about 40 minutes to boost up the battery to get me through my music habit for the rest of the workday which ends at 3pm.
I've noticed that if I don't reboot after lunch, my phone is just sluggish and slow as can be. Especially if I've got droid live running and I get a text or an email. I only run two widgets, the "flip clock" and the small style calendar underneath it on my home screen. So I don't think that has much of an effect on my phones performance in the long run. When I was using a task killer, the only time I would reboot was when I woke up in the morning and I was good for the rest of the day. I've been considering running a task killer again, as android doesn't seem to be doing as great of a job managing things as I'd like, but I wanna hear some of your input and experiences first.
Firefox is releasing nightly builds of their mobile browser, fennec.I can post them here if no one objects (if it's a problem let me know and I can remove them).I have not had the time to try this out and won't until later tonight, however from what I hear it is much improved versus the pre-pre alpha that was released a couple weeks ago.

Had about 30 megabytes open, and did not check on Fennec size. Install failed, due to lack of space. But, now I show 249 of 261 megs used. I not sure why, if the installed failed, how any space was used. And, did not find any apps installed under Fenenc or Mozilla. Also, when I try to update other apps, the update process starts, but never completes. How can I find what did install and delete it, or regain my free space.

View 5 Replies View RelatedFennec Fox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/m/beta) is Firefox for Droid. When I download it, the X10 says Google is "protecting" me by not allowing me to install any app that is not from the App Market. I don't want to be "protected"! Is there any way to turn this message off? The only reason I got this Sony, instead of an iPhone, is because Apple won't let you choose your own browser. I thought if they wanted to control the phone that much, they wanted the phone more than I did, so I got a Sony. Is that also true of Sony? Is there another brand of Droid that isn't so "protecting"?
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo I downloaded the pre-alpha release of fennec and installed it but it would never open. Is there anyway to get it working on nexbeast or would I have to go back to a stock rom? Has anyone tried fennec? If so how is the experience?

I just found a live wallpaper that instantly blew my mind and it's called VR Tunnel "Free Edition". Yep, this bad boy is free and so much mind-boggling fun that you would probably pay $1.99 for it. It's so simple, yet so complex and entertaining that I think I just stared at it for 15 minutes straight before pulling away to write this post.

Has anyone been successful in getting the Fennec nightly builds to run on the Hero? I'm getting to the home screen, but it then crashes before I can do anything. Here's the link (select the ARMv6 Experimental build):https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#ARMv6_.28experimental.29

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to The incredible but not to android. I previously had the Eris. And no I did not just abandon ship and get the incredible it was given to me as a gift and I decided not to open it until today because someone stole my eris with the leaked 2.1 v1 and a passcode on it and im pretty sure I will get it back on Monday but I just have to say: This Phone is Awesome.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a new rooter on 2.2. I want something easy to install without getting into new kernals, hopefully the least amount of fiddling around. I want something that is awesome with battery life. that is my #1 concern. Speed is not so important to me. Something that is close to Sense is virtuous for me?
View 12 Replies View RelatedThis is a great thread to read on tips for saving power http://androidforums.com/samsung-vibrant/138944-how-save-power.html But this is something that people over look, its mentioned in a few places but I think it needs to be promoted more. I'm talking about, well I guess the word for it is conditioning the battery. Basically you drain the battery down till its dead(though in my case I went down to only 5%), turn the phone off and charge back up to full. One thing I noticed right away was how long it took for the phone to recharge. I have not hard data, but my experience up to that point was charging before didn't take that long. But now that I've done this, battery life is great. I've been listening to music for a couple of hours, some light browsing, viewed a youtube video, took a few pictures, and I have background sync on and I have both twitter and facebook installed with notifications set to their shortest time span(15min and 30min respectively). Currently at 8hrs since unplugged and at 61%. Not bad I'd say. I also have rooted my phone and installed the lag fix. I'm not running BH_MAN's cut down rom, I am still running stock.

So far so great with the new Droid X!! I have not had any of the lag problems or battery life issues that I have seen posted. My X is fast and smooth, I love it so far. Having said that, I can see a potential problem with the physical buttons on the device. When I first started using the X, the buttons were tight and had a crisp feel when pressed.
Now after 1 day of use, the" back" button is getting loose and is not nearly as crisp as it was. I don't think it will last much longer. I wish there was a way to back out of a screen or app via a screen button as opposed to the physical one. If anyone knows a way to avoid using the physical button to go back a web screen, please let me know. Other than that, this thing rules.
Sorry if this has already been said, but while I was typing on the keyboard I noticed something cool. If you type a text or sentence and you look back and notice that a word you tried to type got switched to a different word because of a missed key or just because of the predictive text, instead of moving the cursor back and erasing, you can just click on that word. This brings up the original suggestions along with what you actually typed even if you've moved past this word. Maybe the original Droid had this? I came from an HTC Droid Eris.

I read somewhere about people wishing they could organize apps etc better and this puts all the shortcuts in a carousel (3d wheel thing) that you can spin round and select the app, shortcut, contact etc. You can have 2 carousels which you can flick up and down through, I wish there were more but I think there's a pro version for more.I don't work for the company or anything like that I just thought I'd share it with all you X10 people with cluttered screens.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'd like to know whether you think the processor actually feels slow, does it seem like it's trying to keep up with the awesome software on the device?
When 2.0 comes, will the processor strain more, or work better?
I need to know that it will last 18 months and keep up to speed before signing anything.
And Its FREE!
