I have an app which uses 3 different spinners to allow users to choose from some options. Iīve added those spinners to my layout without editing most of itīs properties and this way it works for most of my users. Unfortunately most isnīt all and then some of them started complaining that the list of options is showing text in white with over a white background! Iīd like to know if thereīs a way (or a property) so I can force those spinners to show the options list using text in black.

Some apps like HTC sense and the built in messanger app I would love having them killed instantly, is there one that i can get? Before you say, yes the Eris DOES need a task killer. Asked any eris user, once it gets below 30 MB of ram, it slows down to a near halt. They majority of thos for me is processes that load without me telling them too, and ons that I never use, such as htc sense or the default messager apps. I'm rooted btw.

View 13 Replies View RelatedAnyway, I just wanted for everyone to post their favorite Task Manager/Killer, and why, and if there are any flaws. I personally use Advanced Task Killer Free. It has a simple UI, and the when you select or unselect apps it remebers it so next time you launch the app you can only remove the apps that you usually do, and keep ones that always run. It doesn't slow down or break the system.

View 8 Replies View RelatedShould I use a app killer or not? I see that they seem to be common and highly rated but I've also read posts on other forums saying that they shouldn't be used and Android should be allowed to manage the apps.
Also, I've installed Advanced Task Killer and while it seems to work well, some apps like Moxier Mail open back up with in seconds of being killed.Lastly,last night I used Advanced Task Killer to close all apps, turned the phone off and put it on the charger.This morning I turned on the phone, pulled down the notification bar and saw about 15 programs waiting to be killed.Can anybody give a noob an explanation on how Android handles apps,if I should use a app killer and lastly, explain how apps can open on their own.

I've written a new task manager / system information app called "SystemPanel". It displays a list of running applications, and allows you to view information about them, e.g., memory consumption, when they were started, how much CPU time they've used since start, and so on. It of course provides "task killing" capabilities; it can end individual apps, all apps, or groups of apps such as "inactive" or "background" apps.
It also provides meters to show you current CPU consumption, network use, memory use, and SD card use. A "system info" function is available from the menu that provides all the gory details about your phone, everything from your Wi-Fi router's mac address to your Android build number.
A word of warning....SystemPanel does NOT offer a capability to automatically kill tasks in order to "save battery life". I disagree with the idea that such a thing would offer an improvement. The Android OS does a fine job of this all by itself, and such a capability would only be helpful if an app were suffering from a bug (or poorly written), such that is consumed battery unnecssarily in a semi-dormant state. And in that case, killing it every few minutes isn't going to solve the problem...one needs to uninstall it or contact the developer. If you happen to know a technically sound reason why such a task killing strategy is beneficial with well written apps, please let me know, and I'll be happy to rethink this. If you do want such functionality, there are tons of other task killers that supposedly have this feature.
Recommend a task killer that actually works for froyo on my motodroid.maybe one that doesn't kill my batery as well.

I am beginning to think it's like a Windows registry cleaner -- sounds good in theory, but pretty much useless with the ability to really screw things up, if you don't know what you're doing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got my first smartphone, a Samsung Galaxy S through US Cellular (the Mesmerize). It runs Android 2.1 Eclair, and is supposed to be updated to Froyo before the end of the year.
When I got the phone, the person at US Cellular installed Advanced Task Killer on my phone and said I should use it to free up memory and save battery life. So at first I was using it, and it did free up a lot of memory when I pressed the kill tasks button. But then I had some issues like Winamp getting killed when it was playing music in the background. This prompted me to look more into task killers and I found a lot of conflicting information. Some people say they are bad and don't help and cause trouble on the phone, others said just the opposite. There were some specific comments about ATK saying it can corrupt the OS. This all made me very nervous and I'm not sure what to believe. So for now I have uninstalled ATK. What input do you guys have about task killers?

I know task killers a basically useless but I do have the odd instance where and program crashes and I need to kill the process. From what I can remember the task manager had 3 screens which had the following :-
Screen 1
Currently running programs, press the app to kill it.
Screen 2
The uninstall screen.
Screen 3
Cpu % used and space remaining on the phone and SD.
Is there a way to kill, end or completly stop an app without using a task killer, a task manager, whatever you call it? I mean within the Android os without installing an external app?

After some struggeling I get the application to run again. When I debug it I can see that all the right code are executed the right way. The application shows a OpenGL surface and animates stuff on it. It used to work perfectly (I even have it running on my HTC Magic device), but in the new emulator the screen is just white?

The code for that can be downloaded near the bottom of the page. It leaves you with a white square, and I want to apply a texture to it, which this tutorial series doesn't cover. I can't figure out how to texture my white square, in Android.

Why the line is black instead white? I have tried putting it inside a ImageView but the result is the same.
How can i set the opacity of the shape?
I have the beautiful weather widget on my home screen with the clock... Now I want the clock color to go from white to black, but for some reason it stays white even when I change font color to black in the appearance panel. I don't want to change skins as I like this particular clock.. Anyway to do this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a custom list view and I want the background of the list to be white, so I do something like this which works great.

The problem is when you scroll the list the background of all the list items changes to black, which looks horrible.
I tried in my list view setting the background color to white. When I inflate the view I also tried setting the background color to white:
view.setBackgroundColor(Color.WHITE);
Both of these fix the problem of the scrolling background color, but now the item doesn't appear to be clickable even though it is. What I mean by that is the onClick still works fine, but the background doesn't flash to orange to let the user know he clicked it.
How can I have a white background in a list view, that stays white while scrolling, and does the normal list acitvity orange click background?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using GLSurfaceView to render OpengGL 3D. It works great on my nexus one, the emulators, and at least the G1. However, on the droid, the textures are white. I've seen this problem before when textures aren't loaded, and also when they aren't powers of two dimensions (not the case here). What's weird is that this started when I converted my program to use GLSurfaceView (it used to be based on some older example where I was doing the EGL stuff myself).
Textures displayed on the screen are white, but shapes that are just colors are displayed just fine.
The person testing this for me on their droid does not have the sdk, so if anyone would like to run this with the debugger, let me know and I can get you the apk.
