Android : Modifying Init.rc File To Import A New Configuration

I want to modified the init.rc file to import a new configuration file by adding the following lines in the init.rc file import /data/myconfig/conf/init.rc trigger system And the file at /data/myconfig/conf/init.rc contains on system export TRIAL_EXPORT /trial/export/to/be/replaced The problem is that I cannot get the new export (TRIAL_EXPORT)to working. When I issue the command echo $TRIAL_EXPORT on the adb shell I do not get anything. Can somebody point out what is wrong in here?

I have a requirement to change network service permission(such as netd to 660 or something similar) for my application in order to access certain features. I dont want to edit init.rc file to make such changes. Since my application cannot be run in root mode, is there any alternative solution where i could do such modifications from my application point of view.

I have a rooted desire, but I have a troublesome app that won't update and I can't delete. I have seen others who have had the same problem, and a solution is to rename the app .apk.old and then redownload it, but I can't find a decent app to do this. I do have superuser permissions.

I have a JAR comprised of java and class files. It is my understanding that the JAR is an executable library comprised of the .class files within. I need to open one of these class folders change a few things and reinsert it into the jar. i am on linux and i have been at this all day to no avail.

I have a HUAWEI Y300-0100, and it comes with a funny feature: every time it can't connect to WIFI a popup message appears saying that if you switch to data plan charges may apply.
I am constantly switching between WIFI/no-WIFI zones so that message really bothered me, and I searched a way to disable it.
Presumably, the only way to do that is by modifying a system file called "build.prop". I already had my phone rooted so doing so wasn't very hard.I used Jota+ to change a setting from "true" to "false" (ro.config.hw******), and saved the file in the root of the SD card. Then, with ES File Explorer, I renamed the "build.prop" in /system to "build.prop.bak" and copied there the "build.prop" I previously saved in the SD root.All seemed to be fine, except that after rebooting my phone it could not get past the HUAWEI logo.
Android recovery mode seems to work, but I don't know how to use a lot of its options nor I want to do a Factory Reset if there's a better alternative.Is there a way to modify system files before booting Android? I really would like to try to delete the "build.prop" file and rename the "build.prop.bak" back to "build.prop".

This question has been asked [numerous times] before, but I have not seen any definitive answers, or examples of code that actually works. I would like to associate an Activity with a particular file type. For discussion, assume that I want my Activity to be associated with PDFs. Here is what I currently have. I have experimented with many different values and combinations of values in the intent-filter, but I have yet to get my Activity to start when a PDF is selected.

tutorials Note pad v1,2,3 and typed in a few notes. Can i import data (manually )from an
external text file into the sq lite dbs? I looked in my Notepad workspace folders
but no dbs seem to have been created? I looked for anything with .db extension or
named 'data' as specified in the code.

So today i was working on an app of mine, and decided to import an image and put it into my xml file. What i did was i dragged the image from MyPictures, into the drawable folder, and then placed an image widget on the xml editor. I selected the image i just dropped into the drawable folder, and everything goes well. The issue, is that when i go into the code, i cannot edit any code that is below the images code. If i try to click or highlight ANYTHING, it will go whacko and the text will start dissappearing, and pasting in a ton of different places, causing tons of errorsanks

I am implementing GTalk sample application by refering some book But they mentioned the following imports import

There is a big database(15M) in my application, it is too big to download the apk if I publish the source database in myapp.apk. So I encode the db to binary files(300k). But the new problem is I should decode binary files and create the database(with data), this procedure take about several minutes, so I can NOT do this in SQLiteOpenHelper.onCreate(), this is too slow for user experience(though it is a one time procedure, it is still unacceptable).
My application has NO main activity entry in launcher, the main entry is Broadcast Receiver.on Receive, the information should display to user immediately when receiving the broadcast, so I have no chance to display a several minutes "Initializing, please waiting..." UI. The best chance to create database and init data immediately after install, but how to do this, is there any broadcast? or is there any AndroidManifest attribute?

I'm having a weird problem. When I try to update my DatePicker it crashes, but I dont understand why. Via the debugger I could see the date[] function is filled the way it should be. I flashed my adp1 to firmware 1.1 following the instruction from HTC. http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html But after that, I want to modify the /init.rc, after I remount the rootfs as writable, I can edit or replace the /init.rc file. But the file will roll back the original version after reboot the phone. Before I modify the /init.rc, I install the busybox to the phone, then I use 'cp" command to replace the /init.rc Any one can give me some advice?

I am trying to download the android source onto a new ubuntu 8.10 installation on a x86 machine. All the steps worked fine until I tried to init the repo client. I get the following. All tutorials out there use script manager to enable tether on boot. I would like to avoid cluttering and make an init.d script to run each reboot.
My current syntax is:

(HTC Desire running 2.2) Sometimes the init process enters a busy loop, consuming all CPU time. This has happened to me three or four times now. When it happens, Android System Info shows 100% CPU usage and if you run top in a terminal emulator, you can see that it's the init process eating up the CPU.
This makes the phone real slow and the only cure I know of is a reboot.I was going to check out the logs while the init was looping, but I forgot. I don't know how to repeat this - today it happened when I exitted VLC Stream and Convert, but it happened before I even installed this application.
I think this happened before the 2.2 upgrade as well and my son said his Xperia X10 eats the battery real fast sometimes - so maybe the same problem exists in Android 1.6 already.

So I have the basics down... I can create a UI with the XML, I can show it and change the screen to another UI (another XML file) but how do I add to the UI?
Hard to explain...
Say I have a header (just 2 textviews) that will remain at the top and below that is a search box and button (main.xml). The user searches and I have it display the search UI (search.xml). This UI will have the same header (2 textviews) and below it will have several textviews each one containing a search result... Kinda like if you search for an app in the market. There's no way of telling how many results would be returned so I figured I would have to create each textview on the fly within the .java file. I'm not sure how to do this. Most likely would require a loop of some sort, but whats the syntax to create a new textview and display it right below the one above it? I'm working with linear here so I would assume just creating a new textview it will by default go to the next one down which is what I want.
Also, say I have 30 results... How do I get those to scroll but leave the 2 textview header in place? Would I create a ScrollView and put the new TextViews in that?

Also I do not get why there is no "on" binary in the system/bin, system/xbin, the init.rc and init.goldfish.rc. I cannot get the zygote process up. create_socket throws error. If any one knows about this, please tell what I need to do correctly or point me to some correct URL's.

I've been doing alot with the initialization routines in android just lately .
For all my efforts I have been unable to get the device-added init action trigger to fire,
Just to be clear this is set in init.rc and looks like the following,

The above is taken from the init readme file which contains an example init.rc at the bottom
I did some further research and a quick search of the AOSP code. This revealed that the functionality is yet to be implemented. which obviously explains why the trigger wasn't being fired . The device-removed and service-exited triggers are also missing.
