View 12 RepliesI want a pocketable android device mostly for wifi use. It can be a phone, but I would only use it with a prepaid Sim and no contract. It doesn't have to be a phone.
I also want to be able to track the latest android software without interference from the provider (currently 2.2)?
Does anything fit this bill other than the $529 Nexus one? It seems like a lot of money for a device that is about to go out of production.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a keyboard alternative for my Behold2 that will automatically place a space after a word selection? I am playing around with swype but I would like to have an alternate keyboard for inputting things like website addresses etc

View 8 Replies View RelatedLoving the phone but every once in a while - like three times yesterday and once today the touchscreen goes haywire. I click on an icon and it doesnt register or the icon below is activated. On the keyboard I tap a letter and another key is activated. If I turn off phone and then back on all is perfect again for a while. It seems to be happening in the lower third of the screen. Anyone experience this? Do you think software or hardware? Im thinking software because the reset fixes problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a Nexus One, which I like a *lot* (reformed iPhone user here). The only thing I can't stand is that the keyboard often takes as long as 30 seconds to appear when I touch the text entry field to reply to a text. Has anyone else experienced this? Any guidance/suggestions?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using an LG Nexus 4 device with the stock Android keyboard. When texting, composing e-mails, or engaging in most functions with a keyboard, there is a smiley key on the bottom left corner next to the period. Is there any way to remove or change that key?
I use the period often, and sometimes hit that smiley key by accident. A few times in the last week, I sent serious messages and, instead of ending the sentence with a period, I ended it with a smiley. Those made for awkward moments.
By the way, I have tried Swype and SwiftKey and prefer the Android keyboard with gesture-typing. I am not interested in installing an app with a supposedly better keyboard.
I want to remove the word 'yo' from the keyboard because I don't use 'yo' and I hate whenever it accidentally autocorrects to 'yo' when I type in 'you'.
I know how to add words to the dictionary, but I can't seem to find the option to delete pre-inserted words from the keyboard.
I'm looking for an Xsposed module that hides the keyboard input selector from the status bar. I know some custom ROMs have this but I'm looking for one that works on stock android.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor those of you that are familiar with better keyboard. I was wondering about an easy way to switch from the t9 keyboard to the regular qwerty keyboard. I was under the impression that swiping left would toggle between the 2 but all that does is bring me to the numbers and symbols keyboard. I've been changing back and forth to the android keyboard because its faster than going into the better keyboard settings.

Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.
Just would like to hear your idea about that...I recently have seen the Samsung Galaxy S and , well, was really impressed about that! Then I have seen the new HTC Desire and heard good rumors about that. So, I was wondering, which one would you take as an alternative to the i Phone 4G? I have seen some price alternatives for Samsung Contract Mobile Phones galaxy s: compare models and prices contract mobile phones galaxy s. - Choppy Doo and HTC Contract Mobile Phones htc desire: compare models and prices contract mobile phones htc desire. - Choppy Doo What would you take if you were in my shoes?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just picked up the Motorola Droid, and I'm loving it.I'm trying to find the best free alternative to SMS (because it's ridiculous that after paying $30/mo for 3G access, I have to pay more to move 100-character messages around on the same network...).Ideal would be something like BlackBerry Messenger. So far, I've been using gTalk with my status set to invisible, and that seems to be a pretty good alternative. When I initiate a gTalk conversation with an invisible status, the conversation usually remains short - like an SMS conversation. One downside is that people never initiate conversations on gTalk with me while I'm set to invisible.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI see posts saying that FrameLayout is the alternative, and that I should use margins to position things (this strikes me as wildly counter intuitive, but ok... if it works, I'll take it). However, I can't get it to work, so, I'm looking for assistance. I'm aware of the fact that this may mean different things on different devices. I'm ok with that. I simply need a way to, programatically, and at run time, place an item at a SPECIFIC location. I don't want to rely on gravity (or the laws of thermodynamics). I just want to specify a location and have the element appear there :)

View 3 Replies View RelatedOne of the alternative app stores is asking for unaltered, unedited capture from the app as a video. Plus I'm also interested in cleaner video than I get by focusing a camcorder on an Android on a table. Who knows how to do that? I think I found some posts that indicate Mark Murphy may have solved this with a tool that goes through DDMS. If so, I'll get that tool and donate.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have tried using both launcher pro and ADW launcher, who have a reputation of being light launchers, and no matter how much I mess about with the settings, I always experience the same thing:
1: They are often not fluid when swiping screens, showing a little sign of lag or sluggishness that you do not experience with the Sense UI and which drives me crazy.
2: When unlocking the phones, the first swipe is always followed by a noticeable amount of latency.
This bothers me quite a bit, because I really like these launchers and I know of no other way to get the (from my POV) main advantage behind them (the dock).Any advice? I have tried messing about with the memory settings etc to no avail.
I would really like an unlock screen that requires a code (much like the iphone one). I find that the unlock pattern is not as effective due to the fact that the screen smudges, allowing others to see what your pattern is.
