Android :: Location Of SQLite Database When Application Executed On Real Device
Jul 24, 2010
I have trouble with finding my SQLite Database.
As we can access the SQLite databases on a running emulator like below:
adb -s emulator-5554 shell
sqlite3 /data/data/package_name/databases/database_name
But what if I am testing my application on real device(HTC Here-Android) ?
where does i find my database?

I am developing a app using android C2DM. sqlite3 is my back-end. Everything is just working fine but am struck with an performance issue regarding sqlite3. so my question is 'can i place the database code somewhere where it will be executed only once i.e The dvm(dalvik vertiual machine) should execute the code pertaining to the db only once; during the successive run the dvm should not go thru the (db)code because the db had been created.
More specifically, my app send msg to all the phones which has my app. so when an app at the client end receives a msg, the dvm should not execute this code : SQLiteDatabase db;
//use tat ref to open or create a table
db = openOrCreateDatabase( "/data/data/de.vogella.android.c2dm.simpleclient/app_database/file__0/0000000000000001.db", SQLiteDatabase.CREATE_IF_NECESSARY, null);
try
{
[code]....
Because everytime a msg comes this code ll be executed.

I want to create a sqlite database by importing data from some data files, like csv etc., and then put this database into one of my android application and then deploy into the Android device.
By now the samples and tutorial what I found are all taliking about creating the sqlite database at runtime when running the android application on the device. Is there anyway I can create it offline and then attach it to my application later?
Any tools and docs for this?

I'm currently developing a Field-Service application that stores data in the local sqlite database on an android device. At some point, usually after completing the data collection rounds, the local sqlite db is to be synchronized to a remote sybase db on the server.Any suggestions as to how this could be achieved or engineered as a solution? Or even better, are there alternatives to synchronizing data in such an application?

I'm new to Android, I just finished the Notepad Tutorials, where we can create SQLite Databases to save notes. So I wanted to know if it was possible to "import" my own SQLite database (not created with my App but with a 3rd-party software) to my project, and if the answer is yes, where should I save my SQLite databse and how can I have access to it.

I'm doing a application that will use a database with serialized object. The objects will be already serialized and the user will just display things. On a PC I would just make an XML but with android I'm not sure. Can I make an XML and "unpack" it when the user launch the application for the first time or should I do something else?

I put my database field in "assets" folder. And use the code from this blog to copy the database to "/data/data/my_packname/databases/", (This copy code i run it in the onCreate() method when i run this app) then use select * from ... to get data. But it gives me the exception: no such table. Someone told me that if i am attempting to copy the file in SQLiteOpenHelper's onCreate(), it's too late. So the copy file code can not copy the complete file. So i need to use adb or ddms to pull the database first? So, Anyone can teach me how to use my own databse?

public void delete(String id, String name, String phonenumber, String time, String message)
{
String[] args={id};
getWritableDatabase().delete("texts", "_ID=?", args);
}
It works fine, and deletes the specified row. However, I also want to implement it so that I can delete the most recent (earliest date) entry in the database, which should be at the top of the table. I know I can do this by altering the last 2 parameters of delete, but I cannot figure out what to change them to.

Is it really necessary to close an SQLite database that your activity has opened (database is in local memory or on SD card)? I would think it would be good practice, but I noticed that the Android samples such as the Notepad tutorial and SearchableDictionary sample do not do this. I've also seen sample code where the database is consistently opened, read from, and closed, but that would seem to add unnecessary overhead.

Is it possible to access my populated database from inside my App? Or can I at least create a copy of the populated database and then use that copy? Or do I need to do a .dump and put all the inserts into the Android code?

I have gotten to to the point where I need to test my application on a real Android device. I have obtained an Motorola Droid phone and attached it to my computer (Windows).I have installed the USB driver, and I believe that my computer can see the phone. When I start up the DDMS it shows my device as 'Online'. I cannot, however, figure out how to get the debugger to use the device instead of the emulator. The Android documentation states that when I run my program from within Eclipse that I should be presented with a 'Device Chooser', but that does not happen. I read somewhere else that pressing F11 will bring up the Device Chooser, but it only runs the application on the emulator. I know there is probably something obvious that I am missing here, but I cannot figure out what it is.
