Android :: Way To Go About Learning Droid Framework?

Sep 21, 2010

I just started looking at the android framework and was wondering what was the best way going about getting good at it. I started with a text game and created a simple bubbleWrap game next. But am not sure if I'm going about it the right way now, so I thought I'd ask some of you more experienced Android people out here. Are there any courses online that would be beneficial? Any books that helped y'all?

Android :: What's Learning Curve For Phone?

Jul 22, 2010

What has people's experience been in learning Android? I'd be interested in how long it takes to get to the point where you're writing your first app, and how the experience compares to learning some other programming API. I know several professional programmers who have tried to learn Android and failed. Is it inherently more difficult or larger than you might expect? But there's a survey here http://www.infoq.com/news/2010/07/Mobile-Survey that claims Android has the shortest learning curve of all smartphone platforms. I wonder how the survey guys could have got such a perverse and unlikely result. I have my own views and observations on this, which I'll mention as a dialog develops. I don't want to bias the discussion with my perspective at this point.

Google Voice Recognition API - How Does Learning Work

Apr 14, 2012

I am planning an app using the android speech input api (Speech Input | Android Developers). How the learning occurs? So for example initially my phone could not recognize proper nouns, local locations, uncommon names of my friends, etc, but now it recognizes all of these things so clearly it has learned. But are all of these words now available to other users?

I am envisioning an app when each of my users would be contributing to a database constructed by other users, so that a proper noun that someone else entered is now available to be recognized by someone who has never used my app, is this something I can count on happening automatically?

Android :: Any Good Open Source Android Games To Accelerate Learning Process?

Dec 21, 2009

This question here lists some good links to general Android applications (that I'm already looking over) but I'm interested at the moment in specifically games (board-type, intelligent games rather than action - in other words, I don't need real-time). What are the best sources for applications like that? I want to look over the source code to get myself up to speed quickly.

(Please don't just Google for results, I've already done that and the pickings are a little scarce. I'm interested in anyone who's actually taken time to find and evaluate good sites for this - so ideally, you'd already be an Android developer interested in developing games).

HTC Droid Eris :: Android Sync With Mac (10.4.11) Via Address Book

Jan 6, 2010

Just got the HTC Eris and transfered my contacts from my old BlackBerry to the new Eris. Everything's there, actually way more than I need (over 3970 contacts, many duplicates and such. I realize that there is the 'delete duplicates' function on Gmail's contacts page, but sync'ing of that many contacts to go back and edit the contacts that I would like to keep on the phone, has really slowed down the phone, eaten battery big-time and in 3-4 days only 501 contacts have come across. I really don't need that many and was only planning on having the people I call on a daily basis. So, I turned off the sync function on the phone and the phone is running a bit better, but having to scroll or search through that many contacts takes for ever to do.

I would like to find a sync conduit (that works with my PowerBook Mac running Tiger 10.4.11) that I could sync via USB my contacts off of this phone, edit the ones to keep, re-populate (replace) the contacts. At this point I would just turn on the phone sync function(with the fewer contacts) and let them populate Gmail. How is this possible? Many of the suggested downloads I have seen online haven't really stated that they work with my Mac OS. Is there a faster way to have the contacts sync'd up to gmail and maybe just edit everything up there on line?

Android : Identify A Contact Item In Droid Address Book?

Nov 1, 2010

How to identify a contact item in Android address book ?

I am developing an application to add, delete and update contacts on Android PDAs, I can't think up a good way to identify a contact item in the Contact(address book) taking the following issues into consideration:
1. different people can have the same name.
2. Though a record can be identified by its _ID (eg: Phones._ID), serveral rows may belong to one specific person.
I am going to teat all the information(name, display name, phone number .....) of one person as a whole. Do you have a good way to identify them ? Or, How could I find the connection among the properties of the same person?

Android :: Resources On Learning To Develop Android Apps

Nov 6, 2010

Possible Duplicates:
Good book for beginning android development
The best book for programming in Android

The "best/easy to understand" "resource/tutorials/guides/book" wins the answer!
I'm really trying not be subjective here. Most guides I came up with on forums, etc., date back to 2007/2008 so I guess I want something more recent. (Some of them are reeeeeally outdated).

Motorola Droid :: Check Book / Finance App?

Dec 14, 2009

on my old phone (palm treo 755) i had a checkbook app that i used daily. i have tried several finance apps on the market, but none seem to do what i want. i have tried the following:
checkbook genius
easymoney
checkbook
dgmoney
with the old program i could create budgets, set up future payments/deposits, show & hide transactions from the transaction list (ie hide cleared items) and display acct balance on a specific day the apps i've tried so far do make decent checkbook registers, but i miss the flexibility of my old app. anyone know of or have experience with another app that could do all this? i have no problem paying for an app that does all this.

Motorola Droid :: SD Transfer While Connected To Mac Book

Jan 25, 2010

I've only had my droid for about three weeks now and would like to take everything off of my old SD card and utilize the 16gb card but I can't figure out how to do so. I have a MacBook, and when I had my Blackberry Curve and connected that to the Mac, it messed up pretty much anything media related and prevented me from accessing the sd card (if I remember correctly, it was a while ago and I certainly didn't try to do it again). From the looks of some of the forums, there have also been problems connecting the Droid to Mac's so I'm afraid to do that. Does anyone know if this is still the case? I'm at a loss at how to get the stuff onto my phone or the new sd card.
