I've done almost all things to look it like that of ICS, but now, the only thing I am stuck at is the Text Color of the Title of a dialog. I want to change it to blue like that of ICS.The above is the Dialog of the ICS Rom. Here, the text color of the Title of dialog is Blue. My framework-res.apk is from FroYo, so the Title text color of dialog is white there. This is thing I want to change.
I know that it's in values/styles.xml, but which style inside it?? I see "Theme.Dialog" inside it, there are the following lines:-Which thing under this I need to modify?? Is that @style/TextAppearance" or "@color/primary_text_dark/light", etc.

I want to let users input a postal code to my app. The common use case is the US zip code, which are composed solely of numbers, so I'd like to display the numeric keyboard initially in the soft input. However, not all postal codes are solely digits, so I still need users to be able to enter other characters.
I've been trying to do this with android:inputType, but by setting the "number" flag, it automatically blocks any input except for number-based stuff. Is there a way to just accept general text, but get the soft keyboard to initially display a more number-based keyboard?

I got a little textview defined in layout xml:
CODE:.........
As you can see the background color is "background_light" (this results in white color) and the text color is "primary_text_light" (this results in black color).
I would have thought that primary_text_light would result in a "light" color like white, not black ;-)
When i change "primary_text_light" into "primary_text_dark" the text color becomes color white.
Is this a bug in the naming of the default colors?

My requirement was to invoke a alert dialog with a string text that gets modified dynamically when the user hits a button every time
for example:
string str="you have clicked "+ count + "times";
where count is an integer variable that gets incremented every time the user hits a button. and when i assign this string to the text of an alert-dialog ,i get the alert-dialog at runtime but with an empty text value...ie. a naked alert-dialog with just OK cancel button.

I would like to change the text color frequently which is drawn already. Actually, I have taken the app, AlphaBitmap from APIDemos. There, I draw some 10 lines. Now I would like to put the background as black, and the initial text color as white. After every 1 sec, each word in the line should be painted with yellow color.

I'd like to use AlertDialog as a Login or pin code or password dialog. Here is my code -
AlertDialog.Builder alert = new AlertDialog.Builder(this);
alert.setTitle("Login"); alert.setMessage("Enter Pin :");
// Set an EditText view to get user input final EditText input = new EditText(this);
alert.setView(input);
alert.setPositiveButton("Ok", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) {
String value = input.getText().toString();
Log.d( TAG, "Pin Value : " + value); return;
} } );
alert.setNegativeButton("Cancel", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub return;
} } );
alert.show();
How to code that all input text will appear like ' * ' - asterisk. I can't get my pin code value although it shows into asterisk. my code is below
private void accessPinCode_2() {
LayoutInflater factory = LayoutInflater.from(this);
final View textEntryView = factory.inflate(R.layout.dialog_login, null);
AlertDialog.Builder alert = new AlertDialog.Builder(this);
alert.setTitle("Login"); alert.setMessage("Enter Pin :");
alert.setView(textEntryView);
alert.setPositiveButton("Ok", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) {
//String value = input.getText().toString();
EditText mUserText;
mUserText = (EditText) textEntryView.findViewById(R.id.txt_password);
String strPinCode = mUserText.getText().toString();
Log.d( TAG, "Pin Value : " + strPinCode); return;
} } );
alert.setNegativeButton("Cancel", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub return;
} } ); alert.show(); } } dialog_login.xml
<EditText xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
id="@+id/txt_password"
android:password="true"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="250px"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:layout_below="@+id/password_text"
android:singleLine="true" />
I entered the value, but get null! How to solve? Debugging is stopped at this statement. When I pointed above mUserText null value being shown in popup.
String strPinCode = mUserText.getText().toString();
I use Android 1.6. Does it depend on Version?

Look at my code.
- code -
private Handler handler = new Handler(); private ProgressDialog dialog;
final Runnable runInUIThread = new Runnable() { public void run() { dialog.dismiss();
} };
private void DoThis() {
dialog = new ProgressDialog(Main.this); dialog.setTitle("Title");
dialog.setMessage("Text"); dialog.show();
Thread newTask = new Thread() {
@Override public void run() { Looper.prepare(); DoThat();
handler.post(runInUIThread); Looper.loop();
); newTask.start(); } }
Is it possible to use test.setText("something") in this thread to update a Button text or TextView in the LinearLayout after the dialog is dismissed? I try cheating placing:
test.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE);
test.setText("something");
test.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
after dialog.show();
It kind of updated the text when the dialog open. I want to do it after the dialog was dismissed. What is the correct way to implement this in my thread?

There was a similar post to this but used an activity and I am using a dialog. This is real simple code and it works int he APIDemo (which is where I pulled the code from to begin with). The dialog display just fine with the correct number of radio buttons, but the text for the buttons does not display UNLESS I press/select an item. Then once I let up on the selection it disapperas again. what in the world am I not getting?
return new AlertDialog.Builder(this) .setTitle(R.string.choose_location_in_list) .setSingleChoiceItems(R.array.select_add_location, 1, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { } }) .setPositiveButton(R.string.add_to_favs, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { } }) .setNegativeButton(R.string.cancel, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { } }) .create();
my array looks like this,
<resources> <string-array name="select_add_location">
Add to Top

Add to Bottom

Add and Define
</string-array> </resources>

I want to show an AlertDialog with one option that might change on every request. So for example at one time I want to show the option "add to contacts" while another time it should be "remove from contacts".
My code does work on the first time, however Android seems to cache the AlertDialog so that onCreateDialog is not executed next time. Therefore the option doesn't change anymore. Can I prevent this caching, or is there just another way of changing the option?
I am working with SDK 1.5 but using 1.1. Code...
