I am new to Android I've a List View. I want to auto scroll all the items of list view on button click event with some specified time interval, and also wants to update the Text View according to selected items. I tried something like this on button click.

is there no way to change the timeout to scroll in ScrollView? In the source, it's set to: static final int ANIMATED_SCROLL_GAP = 250; so any drags will be blocked for 250ms. This has the appearance of the ScrollView being stuck for a bit before it moves. This makes small scroll gestures difficult to work with. There's no way around this?

I have list view with fairly complex list view items consisting of several image views, several text views, progress bars, etc. Depending on the state of the item some of these elements can be show and some are hidden. I understand that listview recycles views. Right now I am dealing with slow listview scrolling especially on lower powered devices. What's the best way to deal with this problem?

I already optimized each list item view as much as I could. Now I am facing with what's the best? Use one single view with many children for all items and hide and show various children depending on the item state. This way I do not inflate each item view as list is being scrolled but need to show and hide constantly various child views.

Another approach is to build item view dynamically each time view is requested in the adapter getView method. In this case I can only add at run time those elements that are truly needed for current item state but this requires inflating item view every time.

Finally the third approach is most extreme is to have one custom view and draw everything myself. This of cause requires a lot of work.

Android :: Why Does TextView.setText Cause Enclosing Scroll View To Scroll?

I've got this odd problem which is happening on 1.6, 2.2, and a MyTouch 3G Slide (which is API #7, and listed as "2.1-Update1" in the Android Device Chooser). If anyone can explain what I'm doing wrong & how to fix it (or possibly confirm that this is an Android bug)The basic idea for my app is to make a stopwatch-sort of thing, in that the user can tap a button to start a timer, then tap it again to stop (pause) the timer; further taps alternate between resuming the timer and pausing the timer.I've got a top-level ScrollView which contains a RelativelLayout, which contains a bunch of widgets. The first widget is a HUGE button (so that it's easy to press), which pushes all my other widgets below the bottom of the screen. This is intentional, as I want to rely on the ScrollView (and an on-screen reminder to the user) to make the rest of the input options available.I've got a simple state-machine type setup, where mState is the current mode (STATE_ TIMER_ NOT_ STARTED before the user presses any buttons, RUNNING after the first press, and then PAUSED after the second, back to RUNNING after the third, etc, etc).

All this works great EXCEPT that when the timer is running, and the user presses the start/stop/resume button again, the ScrollView will scroll down a ways. I am NOT issuing this command (I don't even have a reference to ScrollView object), and I'm not sure why it's doing this.

REPRO:Compile + run the below samples. When the app starts, press the 'Start Timing' button. Use your thumb (or the mouse) to touch-drag the screen upwards (so you can see the RatingBar), then drag it back downwards (so the button is again completely on-screen). Tap the button (which now reads 'PauseTiming') again, and it'll jump down a bit. It should NOT be jumping/scrolling down, since there's no statement (that I can see) that tells it to scroll down. As near as I can tell, it's the setText that causes the scrolling ( when I comment those lines out, no scrolling occurs).WHAT I'M ASKING FOR:if I'm doing something dumb & you could point out what it is, I'd really appreciate it! I wonder if 'touch mode' might have something to do with this, since it does NOT appear to happen (in the emulator) when I use the mouse's scroll wheel to move the panel upwards (i.e.,instead of the simulated finger-dragging). I can't find a whole lot on touch-mode, and nothing specific on focus/selection in touch mode within a ScrollView if you can confirm that this error occurs for you too, that would be ok, too (since misery loves company.AHEM I mean, since it might help confirm that it's not just me MyTestApp.java package bug.android.scrollview;

UPDATE 1: Adding if( btnStartStopResume.isInTouchMode() )

then setting breakpoints in the debugger confirms that the button is always in touch mode (regardless of whether I finger-drag the panel up/down, or mouse-wheel it up/down). So it's a combination of being in touch-mode AND finger-dragging the panel after the 2nd button-press (i.e, when the app is in 'stopped/paused timing' mode) that's causing the odd extra-timing in subsequent pauses.
UPDATE 2:
I just noticed that it's scrolling down to the EditText, and no further. It looks like when you move the panel down the EditText gets the selection, and after the click event the ScrollView scrolls back to the thing that has the selection. Seems to explain why the mouse-wheel approach doesn't have this problem (it moves the selection/focus back up to the button).

I want to have a dynamic table, with rows added over time as a result of user interaction, using a TableLayout inside a ScrollView. This works fine, but when I want to scroll to the end of the table using fullScroll(), it always leaves out the last line; that is, it scrolls so that the one before the last one is visible. The last line is visible when scrolling manually, and the scrollbar is correct too.I'm of course open to suggestions as to how to make a better layout out of this; but I'm specifically interested in understanding why fullScroll() behaves that way. Should I give it a different parameter, or use something else altogether? Or does it do that because the newly added line isn't yet visible somehow? (if so, how can I solve that?) I am on Android 2.1 and I have one multi column Custom listview Using BaseAdapter with an editable edittext at the end of the listview. If the data in the listview do not contain the data of user choice then user should be able to enter data. If the data is already there in the list user will be able to select the data using custom selector. If a selection is made in the list view and user wanted to enter data in the text field at the bottom after selection then the marker in the list view should be unselected. I tried to use onclick() method on edit text using click listener. First time when it is clicked, edit text is getting focus and onclick() method is not fired. And when it is clicked second time, onclick() method is fired and notifyDataSetChanged() method is called. I tried to call the notifyDataSetChanged() method from the Focus Listener, list view selection is gone in my first attempt and edit text is not receiving any data input from the keyboard (frozen).

I have the ScrollView so all of the layout always is visible no matter the height of the screen. The problem is that on a very high screen, I still want my imageview to be at the bottom. However, a child of a ScrollView dont seem to have a defined bottom. The View is placed at the top of the layout. How can I solve this problem in a neat way?

I have a WebView inside the ScrollView. The content of WebView dyanamically changes when it displays different html page. I have the following issue: For example I have A.html, and B.html. The content of B.html is larger than A.html, so the page is longer. When WebView load B.html, the ScrollView stretches its size to enable itself scroll for B.html, then if I go back to A.html, ScrollView doesn't resize itself. I'm trying to create a multiple selection list where the selection is represented graphically rather than with checkboxes.My list has checkboxes, but I want them to serve a different purpose. I'm using a cursor to hold my data and created a custom view binder for the SimpleCursorAdapter. I did this for the checkboxes and general flexibility.So far I haven't even been able to show one line as being selected. I've enabled multiple selection on the list and denied the children of the list item focusability. I've tried manually changing background color with the position fed in through the list item click listener. But the wrong items get changed and they don't even change to the right color. I've enabled touch focusability with no improvement either.Ideally, I'd like the trackball highlight focus bar to appear in multiple places. But I don't think this is possible unless you use the drawable directly. But I don't know how to find or apply it. My next idea was to have a slim view bar that changes color. But I had the same problem with the wrong item being selected so I never finished trying to guess the index position to see if this would work. My most recent idea is to completely swap out the view for another one if it's selected. But I have no idea how to do this either. I'm thinking of using an array list to store the _id s of the items that need a different view to get around the wierd selection problem. I'm also thinking of passing in the ID field as my from and the selection view as the to for my adapter. Then I'd intercept it with my binder and change the view accordingly. But once again, I'm not sure how to do this successfuly.

I'm trying to get the scroll position on a ListActivity. Here is what I'm trying to do: I have a list activity that is populated from an XML file. Another thread downloads all pictures so the user can see the list while the thread is still downloading the files.

What I'm trying to do is when the thread finishes getting all pics it reads the listview scroll position, refresh the listview and scroll to that position again.

By Default in the Listview,focus will come on the list item.Instead of that, can I get only the border to the list item?I can achieve this by using a transparent image as a list selector.Is there any other simplest way to achieve this requirement?
