Android : Droid TableLayout To Fill Screen?

Mar 6, 2010

I'm battling with Android's retarded layout system. I'm trying to get a table to fill the screen (simple right?) but it's ridiculously hard.

I got it to work somehow in XML like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<TableLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent">
<TableRow android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1">
<Button android:text="A" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1"/>
<Button android:text="B" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1"/>
</TableRow>
<TableRow android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1">
<Button android:text="C" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1"/>
<Button android:text="D" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1"/>
</TableRow>

However I can not get it to work in Java. I've tried a million combinations of the LayoutParams, but nothing ever works. This is the best result I have which only fills the width of the screen, not the height:

table = new TableLayout(this);
// Java. You suck.
TableLayout.LayoutParams lp = new TableLayout.LayoutParams(
ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT,
ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT);
table.setLayoutParams(lp); // This line has no effect! WHYYYY?!
table.setStretchAllColumns(true);
for (int r = 0; r < 2; ++r)
{
TableRow row = new TableRow(this);
for (int c = 0; c < 2; ++c)
{
Button btn = new Button(this);
btn.setText("A");
row.addView(btn);
}
table.addView(row);}

I'm new to Android,but I've had smartphones.I've had an iphone and win mobile phones. I'm not sure I'm understanding how to import video to the droid. I tried just making a folder on the sd card and pasting a video(mp4) in it, but the droid doesn't recognize it.Then i used Motorola media link, it worked, but the picture quality didn't seem as sharp on the droid than it did on the iphone(didn't compress it when i transferred) and can't seem to figure out how to expand video to fill screen.

It will do the dimming proportionally to the angle the phone is rotated off the vertical axis and front to back (freaky) It will still take the shot but I have no idea how centered I am on the shot. I changed auto dimming to "off " but it still blanks it.

Android :: Activity That Does Not Fill The Parent Screen

Dec 14, 2009

Any idea why this doesn't create an activity that looks like a popup instead of an activity that completely fills the screen?

CODE:.............

I assumed that I only needed to set the layout height and layout width to something other than "fill_parent", but it still shows up as a black screen that completely fills the screen.

Ultimately, I simply want to create a popup, but I do not want to use an AlertDialog. Is this possible?

Android : How Can I Get A Dialog Style Activity Window To Fill Screen?

Sep 1, 2009

I am using an activity with the dialog theme set, and I want it to be full screen. I tried all sorts of things, even going through the WindowManager to expand the window to full width and height manually, but nothing works. Apparently, a dialog window (or an activity with the dialog theme) will only expand according to its contents, but even that doesn't always work. For instance, I show a progress bar circle which has width and height set to FILL_PARENT (so does its layout container), but still, the dialog wraps around the much smaller progress bar instead of filling the screen. There must be a way of displaying something small inside a dialog window but have it expand to full screen size without its content resizing as well?

HTC EVO 4G :: HDMI Output / How To Fill Screen?

Aug 17, 2010

Ive been raking my brains trying to figure out how to play 720p movies on my HDTV in 16:9 aspect ratio (or 1.78), whereas it would fill the screen of the HDTV nicely just like Niko does it in this thread Video Demo: HTC Evo playback of HD/720p movies over HDMI out. I have a couple of 720p bluray movie files on my PC that i want to encode but now im not even really sure if they are really 720p. When i upload them into handbrake, it says that the source resolution is 1280x544 and the other one 1280x528 with a 2.35 aspect ratio. Doesnt the second number have to be 720 in order to be considered true 720p HD resolution? Everytime i try and change the 528 to 720 on hanbrake, it doesnt let me. And also handbrake doesnt havent an option where you can change the aspect ratio. When i finish encoding, i get the stupid black bars. i realize the video file might have been shot in a 2.35 aspect ratio or whatever but when i play it in VLC it allows me to change it to 16:9. Basically, I want the video to come out in 1280x720, 16:9, 1.78 resolution and aspect ratio as its default settings. This would be much easier if VLC was playable on Android. At the end of the day, im just trying to find out how to watch 720p video on the HDTV in fullscreen or almost fullscreen (i know theres a couple of inches of black bars in 16:9) just like the guy in the thread above.

Android :: Make ScrollView With A RelativeLayout With Multiple Child Layouts Fill The Screen

Aug 20, 2010

I have a layout that has just a ScrollView visible. It has a relative layout as its child. This layout has several other layouts (mainly text views) as its children. When the text is not big enough, the scroll view does not expand itself to fit the whole screen. Instead, it shows a gap at the bottom where the background shows. I tried setting fillViewPort=true on the ScrollView, but that just made the first child layout (RL1) to fill the screen.

How To Make Background Image Fill And Fit The Screen

Oct 3, 2010

I've started learning about drawing things to the screen with Surface view and canvases, but I've run into a problem. At the moment, all I want to do is draw a background image to the screen, and have it fit the screen, regardless of size or resolution. I've figured out how to draw the image just fine, but it doesn't fit the screen at all.

Here is my situation: I'm developing on an Archos 5 internet tablet. It has a 4.8 inch screen and a resolution of 800x480 - putting it in the "Large" class of screens and "Medium" class of pixel density for Android. My background image is 800x480 - my thinking was that it would be displayed perfectly on my device, and scaled down on smaller screens.

But this isn't happening. When I place my image in the "medium" density drawables folder, the image seems "zoomed in" and I can't see it all on my device. And when I emulate the app with different screen sizes, it's all over the place.

I'm drawing my image in a Panel which extends Surface View. Here is the code:

Code:
package com.plant.drawing;
import android.graphics.BitmapFactory;
import android.graphics.Canvas;
import android.view.SurfaceView;
import android.view.SurfaceHolder;
import android.content.Context;

[Code] ....

In my layout, I set this panel's properties of layout height and width to "wrap content." I'm really new to Surface views and the like, so I'm sure I'm simply not doing something - but what can I do to make this image fill the background of any size screen? The image is a .png, by the way.

Android :: Draw On Screen And Create Multi-layered Paintings With Different Brushes - Colors

Nov 11, 2009

I write graphics apps for the iPhone and I'm looking to port my most recent app, 'Layers,' to the Android platform. Layers is painting app that allows users to draw on the screen and create multi-layered paintings with different brushes, colors, etc... and export to PSD. It's got desktop sync, a smudge tool, lots of good stuff... http://www.layersforiphone.com/

I started looking at the Android platform Monday and I've run into a major problem. I use OpenGL to do all the drawing because it offers the best performance. However, there are several places where I need to render into a texture and then use the texture.

For example:

Use brush texture and a line of sprites to create a black paint stroke in texture A Put brush color+alpha in glColor4f and then draw texture A onto the screen.

On the iPhone, I do this continually as the user's finger moves and I am able to achieve 12-15fps on a 1st gen iPod Touch. It's necessary because applying color and alpha to the individual sprites making up the brush stroke doesn't produce the right result (since sprites overlap and make the stroke too dark).

The android platform supports OpenGL ES 1.0 but seems to omit key functions for dealing with framebuffers. I can't find a way to bind a texture to the framebuffer and draw into it using OpenGL.

Here's how I'd normally go about it on the iPhone:

CODE:....................

Is there anything like this on the Android platform? On the iPhone, OpenGL is significantly faster than software-based drawing and is the only viable solution (trust me - I wrote a CoreGraphics painting app too...). Maybe there's another route I could take on Android? I'm willing to jump through whatever hoops are necessary, but I won't publish the app unless performance is good (10fps+ as you're drawing on the screen).
