Android :: Copy String From EditText Into String Variable
Jul 27, 2010I have a class that creates a view to gather data via a function getView() that provides a view with an EditText.This class has also has variable answer.When the user chances the EditText I want to store the content of the EditText in answer.If I would use an onKeyListener I fear that the answer will probably get stored before the last letter is entered.Is there a good way to handle this in the getView() function via some other listener?

Oct 24, 2009Ive got a input tag in an HTML page in an Android WebView. I want the background to be transparent. It is (via background-color: transparent) UNTIL the user selects it (gives it focus, to input data). Then the background is white.
I've tried background-color on textbox and textbox:focus and Ive tried -webkit-appearance: none. None of these worked.
Anyone messed with this?

Feb 2, 2012I'm using the following code to encrypt a String (inText) whose output is a byte array named cipherText;

The cipherText is printed in a textbox as follows:

Everything works fine until here. However, in the decryption section, I need to get the contents of the textbox as a byte array again. For this purpose, I use the following code:

cText=encText.getText().toString().getBytes();
When I try to do the encryption it gives a 'bad size' error. I found out that the lenghts of the two byte arrays cipherText and cText aren't equal:

decText.setText(Integer.toString(cText.length));
encText.setText(Integer.toString(cipherText.length));
boolean res=Arrays.equals(cText, cipherText);
result.setText(Boolean.toString(res));
The 'result' textbox always prints 'false' meaning that the two byte arrays cipherText and cText aren't equal. However I convert cipherText to a String to print in a textbox and then read the contents of that textbox, convert to String back and then to Byte Aray again. Obviously some data is lost during these conversions.

Sorting by date doesn't work because they're strings (unless I'm doing it wrong.I've googled this issue for ~5 days, and it looks like there should be a way to capture the date from the date picker, convert it to a Long, store it in sqlite as a Long, select and sort on the Long date value, then convert the Long back to a "mm/dd/yyyy" string for display. I've tried various combinations of parse statements, Date, FormatDate, etc. with no luck at all.On activity start, get today's date and display it in button which calls the datepicker.Capture new date from datepicker (if one is entered), save it as a long to sqlite.On opening an activity showing a listview of records, select from sqlite with orderby on date (Long), convert Long to "mm/dd/yyyy" string for display in ListView.

But I get an error within xml editor: "Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'style' with value '@android:style/ Widget_TextView')." It is strange because @android:style/ Widget_TextView definitively exists - I double checked it in code via android.R.style.Widget_TextView. Another strange thing is that I don't get android:style offered in the xml editor while typing? There is android:id, android:text and everything else.. but not android:style?
I consider the hard way (making EditText look like TextView) to be: extending EditText and overriding it's onDraw method.

Nov 12, 2010I have preferences where you can enable/disable what items will show up on the menu. There are 17 items. I made a string array in values/arrays.xml with titles for each of these 17 items.
I have preferences.xml which has the layout for my preferences file, and I would like to reference a single item from the string array to use as the title.
In the Android developer reference, I see how I can reference a single string with XML, but now how I can reference a string from an array resource in XML.

Jul 16, 2012I have a galaxy s2 running ICS (but the issue occurred) and I have a very odd issue with the keyboard.
A short while ago, my screen broke and I had it replaced, good as new. Well almost. When ever I use the messaging app, or another type of app like that (Whats App for example), when you are composing a new message, and the textbox is shrunk down to one line at the bottom of the screen, there appears to be no input detected on that part of the screen, the send button (on the right hand side) works, and the other controls all work fine, just not the textbox.
So I figured that when the screen broke, it messed up that part of the screen, but other apps that have controls in that region (such as the camera app that has the photo button, or the lock screen with the emergency call button) all work 100%.
Its just textboxes at the bottom of the screen that do not seem to accept touch events.

Jul 29, 2010Every time I put a TextView before an EditText element in a LinearLayout, the EditText does not show. When I don't, it does.
I've narrowed the problem down to the TextView's layout_width attribute. If I give it "wrap_content", it works, but doesn't "block" down, and it appears on the same line as the EditText.
