Android :: Documents And File Sharing Between Android Devices
Apr 10, 2010
I was curious as to whether there is an app that allows you to share files and documents with other android devices. I thought bump would do it but that is just for sharing contact info.

I have to say that an user profile is a must have feature in an education. So no devices under android 4.2 aren't possible, because there must be an option to use "student profile" in a device to prevent any installation from an user.
1) If i have several devices (like 50 Android devices, Android 4.2 or later), what is the easiest way to manage them all at the same time?
- wifi?
- sync application for this?
- administration profile?
2) Do I have to make an account for each devices in GooglePlay or can I add them all under one account?How can i buy and install apps for each devices?
3) And does the Allshare offer sharing a screen with several devices?
How to manage several devices easiest wat - administration, installing/deleting apps, emptying devices (for example photos/videos...)...Or is it just better to choose iPad with a sync case? Im more interested in Android tablets because they offer much more for less money (example Galaxy Note serie). But I have no idea how to manage them all at the same time.

I noticed an app on the market a couple of weeks ago that allowed you to share files with your PC wirelessly but can't find it now. Any idea what it's called? It's a paid app.

Like the title implies, I'm looking for an app that will browse cifs/smbfs shares on any given WiFi network you connect to. I want to be able to move word documents and the like from the sdcard to network shares, or vice versa, so that I don't need to carry a USB cable with me wherever I go.
Also I'd also like to know if there's an app that would install a server on the phone to enable other PC's on the network to connect to my phone via CIFS/SMBFS so I can browse/modify the files directly on it without having to copy it to the computer first.

This app allows you share file from android phone with any users my sms/email/link.
How it works:
1. Upload file to server.
2. Get link for file and send its by sms or email from application.
This is just beta. I am looking for any proposals and feedbacks. Download Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments?
Current limitations: 50MB per user and 10MB per file. Also, because the server is running in test mode, files and accounts may be lost.

I'm working on some apps for the android platform and I have two problems that I'm not quite sure how to approach, and both are closely related.How can I send a relatively small data file from one android device to another (preferably over the internet or directly through wireless network)?Is it possible to create a temporary p2p live data stream from one android device to another? An example application would be to stream low-res video from phone A's camera to phone B, or audio.I would much appreciate being pointed in the right direction on either issue (File transfer or real time data transfer).

I'm making a code and I want to send a mp4 file to another Android device. I have reached to connect both Androids via Wifi and write from one a simple for cycle from 1-20 and the other Android device reads and displays the number that is sent.Here it is the interesting part of the "sender":
Code:
InetAddress serverAddr = InetAddress.getByName(serverIpAddress);
Log.d("ClientActivity", "C: Connecting...");
Socket socket = new Socket(serverAddr, port);
connected = true;
[code]...
I want to send a file from one device to another instead of an int. How can I make this?

As soon as I plugged the USB cable in the computer it started installing PC Companion, this all installed correctly. I cannot open the file sharing option the only time its will open is when the phone is not connected, so I do this then connect my phone and thats it nothing else.
I go on Media Go and I just cannot transfer any files over to my phone the only transfer option I get is to put it into another folder. My sd card that comes with the phone will keep saying unavaliable. Now I am not normally slow at working phones but this has me completely stumped.

I'm looking for some ways to intercept File System Access operations like Read and Write a file. So that i can catch these "events" from an Android App. (background service for ex.). I don't have found any possible "events" and "listener" that i can use to listen to file system access on the device. So, i'm thinking about developping a native application (with the Android NDK) which will intercept these file system "events" and send them to a background service.

I have my Google account also setup on my wife's phone so we can share purchased apps. However, everything else is shared too. For example, even though I have sync for everything on my account turned off, my calendar still showed up on my wife's phone until I disabled it in the calendar app. Also, I can't remove my Google Talk account from her phone so my messages show up on her phone.
This is on a pair of stock Samsung Galaxy S3 phones.

Android APK-Files are not binaries but byte-code-files. So is it possible to install the same APK-File on both - on x86-Android-Devices and ARM-Android-Devices? There are some x86-Netbooks with Android installed planned and I wonder if it is possible to run the APK-Files on both kinds of devices?

Bluetooth file transfer works with "paired but not connected" pairs between phones from 3D Gallery on one phone to the SD card on the other phone. But I can't seem to send anything else any other way. Has any Droid Eris owner got any of the bluetooth file manager programs to work between phones? If so please tell me the step by step procedure to effect a successful transfer?

I am developing my am on mac (10.5.8), on eclipse and SDK 1.6 and a Vodafone HTC Magic Everything was working ok up to a few days ago. I can not see my device on adb devices. I also got a Sony Xperia and I can not see it on the list either. I upgraded the phone software (the HTC) to 1.6 a few days ago. Maybe that is what caused the change, but I could not be sure.

I am wondering if there is a way to print (documents, etc.) from my Android phone. I know there are some apps out there, but they seem to either A) require a PC to act as middleman B) work with only certain printers.I am looking for a way to print to a network laserjet printer.

I have a situation where I allow the user to email a number of documents from my app. The problem is that one request may result in the sending of 3 or 4 emails. Ideally I would like to get all the SEND info at the beginning and at a minimum populate all the fields so that all the user has to do is hit SEND for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc email. All is fine except that the email client seems to accept the email address only when typed in manually: Below is a snippet of my email routine:
private boolean emailInfo(File filename, String subject, String body) { Intent sendIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_SEND); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_TITLE, "Extra Title"); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_SUBJECT, "subject"); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_EMAIL, "theem...@comcast.net"); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_TEXT, "body"); sendIntent.setType("text/csv"); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.fromFile(filename)); sendIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_GRANT_READ_URI_PERMISSION); //startActivityForResult(Intent.createChooser(sendIntent, "Select Mail Client"),101); startActivityForResult(sendIntent,101); return true; }
The email address that I pass via: sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_EMAIL, "theem...@comcast.net"); is always ignored and so it has to be manually entered on each email.

Today you can get "Documents to go" for $5.55 (Normally $29.95) but I am not really sure what I would gain over the included Quickoffice ap. I could be wrong but I believe quick office is read only while documents to go allows editing.Anyone else know the difference?

I have quite few books in .doc formats. All the ebook readers for android. I found don't really support .doc. The most of them don't support anything other than this new for me "epub" format. Now I can open the .docs, but would like to read them in a convenient way with the options and extras of an ebook reader software. I found something about online converter from .doc to epub, but would like to have my books accessible without pre-converting.
