Android :: Developers Stop Posting Paid Apps On Android Market
Feb 27, 2009
As Google's current support for paid apps in the Android Market is limited to the US market only (and even on the US market, would not support ADP1 phone), I really think you guys should stop posting your apps in there. Please make yourself a favor being able to reach the whole world and post your apps on androidgear or SlideMe or handango.

i just exchanged my evo and now on the new one i dont have the top paid app tab in the market. Everything worked perfect on the other one. What i was able to figure out so far is that when i create a new gmail account everything works fine. when i sign in with my old one i'm still not getting the top paid app tab. Definately something to do with my google account but i have no idea what it could be especially that it worked yesterday. Anyone have any ideas because i really dont want to change my email address

I have a Vodafone NZ 'Google Experience' HTC Magic. This phone was released in NZ back in late July, but as of yet we still have no access to paid apps in the Android Market. It would appear we are not alone, as posts to the market help forum reveal similar concerns for the likes of Switzerland, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Israel, Czech Republic and mainland China. Now in and of itself I can accept a delay while all the nuts and bolts of international tax laws etc are worked out, but what is particulalrly galling here is the total lack of information on what is going on.Locally, vodafone are polite but basically seem as much in the dark as I am. This seems strange given that Vodafone group obviously have a worldwide agreement with Google to market the Magic as a 'Google Experience' product.Google simply don't respond personally on the forum and the only help comes from forum long timers who link to a page on the market site that is completely out of date - it has had the same typos for months!
As far as I can work out, availability of paid apps to customers seems to be somehow coupled to whether developers in your country can submit paid apps to the market at large. I'm sure there is a reason for this, but it seems pretty weird, given that Google Checkout works in NZ already. If Google are serious about taking on the iPhone store, then they really need to address this urgently, crippling their users by only allowing distribution of paid apps in half a dozen (mostly European) markets is crazy - especially given the enormous potential of markets like China, which doesn't have the iPhone. The other worrying aspect is the lack of professionalism in the handling of this by whoever is responsible for the Market project. If Google wants to play with the big boys then they need to start behaving like grown-ups and take some lessons in customer service.

Is there a way to gift a paid app if you are the developer? I want to gift VIA the android market. I don't want to give apk's in the wild, and I might want to use Market Authorization on the gifted apk's (although I suppose if I can just handle market authorization I can send the secure apk, I just don't want to mail insecure ones out).

This just occurred to me today and it would be really nice. I've bought a few apps I no longer want/need and would be willing to sell them to someone else at a discount to recoup some of my loss.Any thoughts on this? I think it would need to be an update to the android market to have an option to 'transfer' to another user so updates for the app would show up in the market. You could keep the developers happy by giving them an option to make their apps eligible for this or not.I suppose this would only be feasible for apps that are also the type that are private and can't be backed up to the SD card with something like Astro File Manager.

I just got my Magic / MyTouch 3G a couple of days ago. I'm unsuccesfully trying to purchase some paid apps, but they aren't showing up in the search, or through linking via Cryket.I've tried looking for Copilot Live, Grocery King, and DoggCatcher.

I develop Android appliations for a living. As always, we have a very short time to get a finished product out the door and we're relying on the Android to be one of our flagship phones.I've got no time for "phone exploration" or hobbying around. I need technical information, and IN PARTICULAR, information about the hard problems. The easy problems that everyone writes about is not helpful for what I need. I want to be able to pick up the phone and call someone on the Google development team to get some quick answers and information that's not found in the documentation, (which by the way has more holes in it than the moon has craters). And, I'm willing to pay for the kind of support I need. I can even visit Google peeps at the development lab in Kirkland.I can make the case to my boss for paying for this kind of live support, but I can't make the case that "I just can't do stuff" on the Android. What I need has GOT to be done and quick. And I need quick technical information.

Once the market opens for paid apps - will we developers be able to see email addresses of paying customers? Or, will there be some other way to identify legit purchases, so, if we receive support requests via email, will there be a way to tell whether the request comes from a paying customer?

this may have been covered before but have had a bit of a search but cant find the answer.I just want to know that if my GF also gets an android phone can any apps I buy also be installed on her phone like you can with certain fruit based phones? I know that is tied to your iTunes account but I set up her ipod my my account so can install any apps i purchase on hers too. But she will have to have to use her own gmail account for her phone so was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat.

this question is now obsolete, as Android Market includes much more countries and such services as PayPal Mobile Payments Library are available.I'd like to sell my Android application, but I live in Poland and in my country* Android Market supports only free apps (we cannot sell and we cannot buy too). What is the best way to sell application in such situation? I can accept PayPal money transfers, but I don't know how to distribute APK package without exposing it to getting pirated. Did someone tried it already and succeeded? you may be surprised, paid apps are supported only in 12 countries worldwide.

I want to see paid apps in but can only see free apps in the market - not a mix, only free apps. Is anyone else having this problem?I searched the other topics, but most of them talked about how they can't see certain paid apps, but I can't see any.I am in Canada and bought my phone from UK (O2). I'm using wi-fi to access the market, which confuses me even more because the operator codes don't even come into play with this.

Anyone else having an issue with the android market? I can download and update free apps with no problem, but I suddenly can't download paid apps. (And no my credit card did not get declined ).
I successfully purchase the app, I got the e-mail that the purchase went through, then it hangs at "authorizing purchase". Specifically, I'm having this issue right now with Vignette.

I just noticed that market options are missing (Skyraider 2.52 Sense).
Only "top free" and "Just in" are options on the top. No paid apps, but some show in the "Just in". I thought there we supposed to be no market problems with these roms?
They appeared now. Took about seven hours, but they appeared.

Since flashing to a 2.* rom and back a few times i am now back on fresh 1.1 and I am trying to do a few updates and download new apps but everything hangs. It just says either authorizing credit card for paid or starting download for free apps. I have even let it go over night and it never finished.

I am adding a menu option in my newest application that will allow users to view all of our other applicatiosn we've published to the market place. The problem we are having is we created a second more business like developer account, but want to let users also see all of our old apps. I know how to have the search point to one developer, i.e. pub:<developer name>, but does anyone know of a way to have it search multiple? So that when they click the button all the apps from the older developer we had along with the newer business developer we created?

I'm just browsing the market on my phone and every few games down there are utterly shite apps from a developer called "Aroma planning" which are pictures of women which you are supposed to touch.
I'd love a feature where you could block every app from that developer but I wouldn't know how or who to contact to ask if it could be implimented.
As far as I know, the Market isn't a part of the open source components in Android and is Google's property but does anyone know if there is a contact email address for the android market developers so I could ask if such a feature could be added?
If I see another miniskirt touch game by that arsehole I'll probably end up snapping my nexus one in rage.
Edit: Doh, the feature requests forum is here: Feature Requests / Suggestions - Android Market

In terms of publishing apps for developers that reside in countries where they are not currently able to sell their apps via the Android Market, is this practice okay? Does it violate the Terms and Conditions of being a seller in any way?

My apps are all backed up to my sdcard. I don't need to *download* all of them after each wipe. It takes forever. How do I block this? It just starts automatically now (2.2 thing?).
