Android :: Compile Static Library Using Droid NDK / Getting Error - Get It To Work?
May 31, 2010
I'm trying to compile a static library to use on Android but I can't figure out how to compile it. The library uses standard libraries (stdio.h etc...) and libxml2.
I am trying to compile using arm-eabi-gcc but I get the following error:
/cygdrive/c/android-ndk-r4/build/platforms/android-8/arch-x86/usr/include/asm/posix_types.h:15:28: error: posix_types_64.h: No such file or directory
How do I get this to work?

I create one static library(alogrithm.a) by using android 2.0. Now I want to use this library to work at android 2.1. Can I rebuild source code to create at android 2.1? Or directly use this library binary file by creating android 2.0?

I have a cross-platform C library that I need to compile for Android as a *.so file. The library consist of many .c and .h files, and it use autotools as it's buid system. (./configure && make dep && make). Afaik, the library does not depend on other libraries, other than libc and OpenSSL (which should be present on Andriod).
I'm trying to find the simplest (read fastest in terms or not needing to read hundreds of pages of manuals and then apply try && fail brute-force approaches to complete the task) way of getting the library off my machine in source code form, and into the Android phones as a .so. The library will eventually be accessed from Java's native library interface. For development, I have both Windows and Debian machines on my desk.

I am successfully linking some of my code stored in a .jar-based library to my Android app. The .jar code references Android library content just fine.
The problem is I need to include 'res' resources in the library but can't work out how to do this. Any suggestions?

I need compiling a lib (ODE) for android - problem is it uses automake and I can't seem to find any decent documentation/how to cross compile a static/dynamic lib for android.
BTW, I'm using ubuntu 12.04 as a dev environment (latest up-to-datest SDK and NDKs are installed) and I have no problem with making the wrapper library - just need to get the static (or dynamic) lib built.

I have a static library, Foo, that is used by a shared library, Bar. Bar is the native shared library loaded by my Android app. Foo contains JNI functions that are only called by Java code and not by any C++ code in Bar. Because of this, those JNI functions get stripped out of the static library (Foo) when the shared library (Bar) is built. I'm currently using a slightly hacky method to prevent that from happening. So, in this case, is there a way to tell the compiler to not strip the JNI (or any) functions out when linking?

I have a thread on StackOverflow (titled: NoClassDefFoundError for Jersey 2.4.1 client in Android) but I thought I would reach out here in hope of getting a more specific/targeted audience group.I have followed instructions from other posts about the libs Android dependency fix but I still get the issue.
I am using Eclipse Juno, with an Android App targeting API 17. Basically I am getting a NoClassDefFoundError at runtime for the org. glassfish. jersey. model.internal.CommonConfig$1 class located in jersey-client-2.4.1.jar. This is when I just do a Run As... deploy from within Eclipse and it fails when I instantiate the CommonConfig class or one that depends on it internally. The start up log is given below:
[HIGH]12-10 12:25:20.657: I/dalvikvm(10170): Failed resolving Lorg/glassfish/jersey/model/internal/CommonConfig$1; interface 920 'Lcom/google/common/base/Function;'
12-10 12:25:20.657: W/dalvikvm(10170): Link of class 'Lorg/glassfish/jersey/model/internal/CommonConfig$1;' failed
12-10 12:25:20.657: E/dalvikvm(10170): Could not find class 'org.glassfish.jersey.model.internal.CommonConfig$ 1', referenced from method
[code]....
It doesn't seem to find a static inner class of CommonConfig. In the SO forum I tinkered with some options in ProGuard but I've come to learn that this isn't even used in the standard debug mode, only when you do a release build (Export from Eclipse). It would appear that something is happening with the class but I can't figure out why it would not be included if its parent is. Is there some kind of 'light' ProGuard process that goes on when a debug deploy is done? how to resolve this particular case of NoClassDefFoundError?

I am on CM "jellybean" branch and want compile iw from source in order to get a p2p0 interface. My goal is use precompiled libnl.so provided by my vendor (Sony). I add iw sorces in external/iw directory and modified Android.mk of external/libnl-header in order to create the module "libnl" necessary for compile iw. All changes are in this commit.
When I compile I obtain this
Code:
external/iw/iw.h:5:29: fatal error: netlink/netlink.h: No such file or directory
It look like the libnl module is not imported by iw.

Last week, I played around with getting a custom recovery built for INQ Cloud Touch..
After compiling - flashing recompiling re-flashing for almost a week and on the verge of giving up ...
I realized, searched and found flash_image ... come to find out custom compile of recovery was fine, fastboot did not like my device and wasn't flashing it properly.
So flash_image got the custom recovery working as suppose to, able to backup/restore ... Flash roms.. however there are no roms.. best i could do was try roms from devices close to this one, with no luck!
So i decided i would try my hand at making a 2.3.7 gingerbread rom. Of course stock is froyo 2.2.1 and before i can make the rom.. i need a kernel for gingerbread. So I got the cm-kernel source using this guide:
[URL] .....
[EDIT]
pulled my .config file using both
/proc/config.tgz
and the included script to pull it from the boot.img
[/EDIT]
Now, i been trying to get kernel compiled for the last 5 days.. and like i said, no lack of searching and reading... Had first error, forgot what it was now, but i got it fixed and compile went on.
Code:
LD .tmp_vmlinux1
arm-eabi-ld: no machine record defined
arm-eabi-ld: no machine record defined
arch/arm/mach-msm/built-in.o: In function `parse_tag_msm_partition':

I have a notepad full of things i have enabled/disabled and restored to original trying to find what is missing or shouldn't be there!

When i am including the jaxp jar file i am getting the error as follows
Trouble processing "javax/xml/XMLConstants.class": [2009-05-08 16:53:18 - TestProject]
Attempt to include a core VM class in something other than a core library. It is likely that you have attempted to include the core library from a desktop virtual machine into an application, which will most assuredly not work. If you really intend to build a core library -- which is only appropriate as part of creating a full virtual machine binary, as opposed to compiling an application -- then use the "--core library" option to suppress this error message. If you go ahead and use "--core-library" but are in fact building an application, then please be aware that your build will still fail at some point; you will simply be denied the pleasure of reading this helpful error message.

when I compile android (http://source.android.com/download) it does not compile some source files. For example there is external/bluetooth/bluez/sbc/sbc.c which is not compiled. There are also other such files.
It's possible those files need not to be compiled. Or it might be that I need some special configuration to compile them.
Either way, if it is possible, I'd like to compile them. Is there some way to do it? Maybe some "compile_all" make target? (I believe the reason why I want to compile all source files is not important)

I'm trying to integrate the LVL to my app, and I followed the 'Licensing Your Applications' document [1].
For some reason I'm receiving the ERROR_NOT_MARKET_MANAGED error, although my app (package: org.jraf.android.logcatlivewallpaper) is indeed available in the Market.
I suppose I made a mistake is on my side but all I did is follow the document (I used the ServerManagedPolicy and the AESObfuscator), so I don't see what I could have done wrong.

I've moved some of my common code into a library project so that multiple projects can access it. I created an empty project, set it to be a library in the properties screen, then imported some classes. Next, I created a new (non library) project and added my new library project to it. I am trying the MapDemo application, but I am unable to launch the activity, it is showing following error message : [2010-06-14 12:11:49 - TryMaps] Installation error: INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY [2010-06-14 12:11:49 - TryMaps] Please check logcat output for more details. [2010-06-14 12:11:49 - TryMaps] Launch canceled!
I have gone through the previous thread on this error, And I have already tried following suggestion : 1. Add maps.jar with Google API 2. and also mention the <uses-library> attribute in manifest file.
But still I am unable to launch the activity, in logcat it is showing that package <package name> requires unavailable shared library com.google.android.maps ; Ignoring.

I'm having some issues with the old "Cannot make a static reference to a non-static method" error in my Android program. I am creating a sand falling game (similar to the Powder Game) and I created a class called Control to create a Control Bar at the bottom of the screen with a slider for brush size (that works fine) and a button to pop up a Dialog to allow users to pick the selected element. However, when I call DemoActivity.showDialog(2) from my code, it gives the static reference to non-static error (DemoActivity is the main activity of my application). I also tried changing it to just Activity.showDialog(2), but I got exactly the same error!
Here's my code:
CODE:................
I fixed it by adding the following to my Control.java code:
CODE:..........
And then calling control.setActivity(this); from my onResume section of DemoActivity.java!
