I have an application that generates a list with two buttons for each entry in the list.
It's working to a limited extent. I have run into a problem which I have not be able to resolve.
Can anyone point me to a tutorial or code sample, or both where I could see a working example of a list with buttons attached to individual list entries?

I am trying to implement a dynamic auto complete widget in android.I am done with the major functionalities and the auto completion implemented is for youtube video search.When I start typing a letter or two, the auto-completion is not working. But when I type three letters or more it works prefect.It also works when I type two letters and hit a backspace.I do not know what is wrong with the code.

Looking at the SDK reference, I stumble upon the Contacts.Extensions (http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/Contacts.Extens ions.html) and Contacts.People.Extensions (http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/Contacts.People .Extensions.html) classes. Sadly I can't find any article about what theses classes are for and how to use them. My goal is to add a few extra fields to the contacts entries which do not fit in any of the current available field types (emails, im accounts, phone numbers, postal addresses). Is there a way to achieve this?

I know I can assign one as a default, but I don't want to do that. I want to leave a couple of the options, but I don't need Handcent and Dialer One to show up there.

So I should be able to import a project like mail / music etc without checking out the full source repository of android. I'v been trying that but I am getting compilation problems like class resolve failure. Am I doing it wrong? What do I have to do to import a project in eclipse without compilation error. I am interested in the Music application.I have setup the latest android eclipse plugin and run test applications with it, so my setup is OK.

If a data row of my list contains a TextView and a Button, is it possible to format those components individually when the List row is selected? Like change drawable of a Button, font color of the TextView apart from the usual highlighting the background of the List row?

How can I color code individual rows in a ListView exactly like it is done in the native MESSAGING app? I do NOT want to simply do alternating rows, but I want to copy the format used in the MESSAGING app, where message rows have a different background color based on the username of the message. FYI: I am currently extending SimpleAdapter and overriding getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) . In this method I am trying to calculate setting the background color based on the position as compared to a list of 'positions to highlight' that I am maintaining each time I update the list, but so far this is only working the first time the list is updated. In class that overrides SimpleAdapter:

When my hero was on 1.5, normal stereo headphones attached worked a-ok if I used the toggleheadset app. Now I have upgraded to 2.1, when I attach the headphones it automatically detects them but sends the volume down to vibrate... if I try to increase the volume using the volume switch it either tries to increase but forces it back down again or shoots up to maximum... Anyone else had this issue and how did you resolve it? I have removed the toggle app above, and I have restarted the phone. Also, when I attached the headphones sometimes the phone just goes into vibrate mode and stays that way... i.e. it just continoulsy vibrates until I press the home key.

I am writing a program where I need a ListView for which I am using a ListActivity. Each one of the views within the ListView has four buttons, (Off, Dim, Bright and On). Each one of these buttons is configured with it's own OnClickListener when I build the view. This part seems to work ok. However when I have say 5 Views each which has these four buttons, I can tell whether an off, dim, bright or on button was pressed but I cannot tell from which view it was pressed. So for example if my views are devices (Light, Heater and Kettle) I press an "on" button and I know an On button was pressed but how do I get it to tell me the On button for the Light was pressed?

I've a ListView where every element in the list contains a TextView and two different Buttons.I found a solution as described in my answer below. Now I can click/tap the button via the touch screen. However, I can't manually select it with the trackball. It always selects the whole list item and from there goes directly to the next list item ignoring the buttons, even though I set .setFocusable(true) and setClickable (true) for the buttons in getView().This causes that no list item is selectable at all any more. But it didn't help in making the nested buttons selectable.

The bottom linearlayout has two buttons that should stay at the bottom on the screen at all times. The problem is when a list in the tabhost gets too long, it displays over the buttons. This works fine. But I want the background of the button to remain "@drawable/my_btn_pressed" when the button is pressed, as if to highlight that this was the last button pressed. Hence, I added the code in my onClick() to set the background resource:

This also works to highlight the last pressed button with "my_btn_pressed". However after this, my selector properties do not seem to work on the other buttons. Mainly, the state focussed is not distinguishable, at all.
How I can do both, i.e distinguish focussed, pressed and normal states of the button, as well as highlight the last pressed button?
I'd love to prevent hardware buttons from working while user runs my app. Perfectly all of them, but any number would help :) I am not sure it's doable but maybe I miss something, hence my question. For those wondering - "why?" - we got an app that does full screen colorful animation and users often run it and hand the phone to their babies as they can stare at it for hours :) but the problem is, kids accidentally press hardware buttons (usually camera trigger, but also Home or Search - depending on the device model). I'd love to add the option to block all keys beside one which can hardly be pressed accidentally.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince a few days, we get an increasing number of reports of users that are unable to uninstall multiple of our applications. Often people give a 1 star rating in the market then, is it possible to fix this?
Our users comments are for instance: "Uninstalled it yet still appears as installed with buttons greyed out" "This has been uninstalled from my phone for about a month and the icon won't go away. I'll click it and its like I have it installed." "Its a fun app until you decide to uninstall it. It then shows as installed in the market and seemingly a fixture. Can't get rid of it."
This is for 3 different apps, and none of these apps have been forward- locked. We have told some users that emailed us already that they should try rebooting their phone because the market sometimes gets stuck, but that didn't help.
I have a listview in the first page of the application which takes almost a minute to populate. It would be nice if after each entry were generated (in a non-ui thread) the list added that entry - Simply calling refresh in the UI thread with a handler post does not do the trick. I use an ArrayAdapter constructed with a list.

I'm asking this because I want to implement a RelativeLayout and add more elements to the screen where the ListView is with more flexibility than using .inflate() and addHeaderView()/addFooterView().
The same code that displays the lists running on the emulator doesn't run on the mobile (Motorola Milestone). I'm using the same android platform (2.1-update).

I cannot figure out how to attach a listener to the children elements so that I can trigger some action when the user taps on the phone number.
I've had my phone for a while now but a few days ago some of the physical buttons stopped working. I'm not sure why but the home, call pick up, and camera buttons now no longer function. I'd have assumed this was a physical fault immediately, however when the screen is darkened (power save?) if I press any of the "failed" buttons then it will light up again! I'd be interested in knowing whether there are any diagnostic tools available for this also. Failing anything else I'll be phoning O2 to get phone replaced! I've updated to II4 via the NPS update and they are still broken.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had the Telus Desire for just under a week now and everything about the phone was working great until yesterday when the side volume buttons just stopped working. I can't adjust the ringer volume on my home screens, or the media volume when I'm running any apps or the in call volume either. I feel like I've accidentally triggered some volume lock, but I've searched for answers and come up empty. Does anyone have any ideas as to what happened or how I can solve this? They were working just fine up until yesterday, and I don't believe I installed or changed anything since the buttons were working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI only got my X10 just over a week ago and the menu, home and back buttons on the bottom were randomly not working and it's only becoming more and more consistant. It's driving me nuts and it's especially frustrating since it's a brand new phone. I can't find anything on the internet and yes my phone software is upgraded. The guy at Rogers was like oh welllll guess you'll just have to wait 2 weeks until the next upgrade then MAYBE it will work again.
