My app has .txt files in subdirectories in the assets folder. It reads those .txt files and puts them in a textview. It's working great and no problems.
Should I be concerned about the files in the assets folder getting deleted by the user or missing. If this ever could happen, my app would get an error because the file would not be there when it tried to read it into the stream.
Is there a need for me to check the existence of an asset file before I read it or does the asset manager take care of it all? I also was wondering if there's a chance that a user would or could delete and asset file.
Like I say, everything works fine without me inserting code to check for file existence. I just wondered if people use the .exists() statement every time they go to read in a stream from assets.
I'm doing Major Project on my final year and I'm very new to Android plus I;m not good at codings. I need help with my login page.
I've created something like a database connection java file which is this:
CODE:.......
I've already created a database for users using SQLite. The database name is Users and the table is called User. The records inside the table are Username, Password, LastName, FirstName. I've inserted one user's info into the database. The problem is I do not know whether my UserDB.java is correct.
And I've also created login.java. Hardcoded Login page:
CODE:.........
So I want to know how I should apply the database connection on the login.java. Should I insert database connection something like db.Open();? I studied ASP.Net a few months back and I kind of forget most of what I've learnt. So how should I open the database connection on login.java and how to check with database whether the user enters the right username and password?
I've got the following row xml file which consists of CheckboxView and TextView;
CODE:............
When the app run, i'm unable to "tick" any of the check boxes...
The version of the software that is most current is version 6 (the phone shipped with version 3).
To ascertain version: Go to Dialer/Hit Star/#9999#
You will see the PDA; Phone; and Software Version numbers in this section
The T939xxxx6 for PDA AND PHONE and then
Software Version - ending in .006 on the last line.
I was told that the reason that I keep seeing the "No update file exists" message when I check "update firmware" is because I have the latest version.
At some point my phone was updated without giving me a message. I did notice the red and blue arrows yesterday. But there was no message. My SD card mounted and dismounted on its own and gave an error message, and then all references to the error and SD card disappeared.
If your phone is/has exhibited this sort of behavior, you may already have the update.
Check for system updates doesn't check.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMenu - Settings - Location - Enable GPS satellites
It states that enabling this will "require more battery plus view of sky"
When checked, it states "deselect to conserve battery"
So, the question is, should this be enabled?
I imagine for some applications, knowing your precise location should be useful, especially if the turn-by-turn maps are installed and used.
I'm thinking to deselect this, and selecting it at times when I need it.
So, to check or not to check?
I know Android cannot handle PDFs natively. However, the Nexus One (and possibly other phones) come pre-Installed with QuickOffice Viewer. How would I determine whether the user has a PDF viewer installed?
Currently, the code to start the PDF download looks pretty simple:
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
intent.setData(Uri.parse(url));
startActivity(intent);
After the download, the user clicks on the downloaded file to invoke the viewer.
However, if there is no PDF viewer, Android reports "Cannot download. The content is not supported on the phone."
I want to determine if the user will get this message, and if so, direct them to PDF apps in the Android Market.

So what I want to ask is what stuff should I check in the phone when buying it used from another person. I know to check the standard functions like calling, msging, camera, wifi, gprs/edge, gps etc. But I don't know any other thing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am currently travelling at Hongkong, here in Mongkok district of Hongkong, there are hundreds of shops selling mobile phones at 'quite cheap' prices. I just bought a HTC desire, it was sealed with plastic, and the storekeeper said that it was a HTC desire with warranty. For HKD 4100. I wanted to buy 2 units, one for my sister. But the store only has 1. So I went to a store next door, and the storekeeper said what I just bought must have been a 'refurbished' one. He said the normal price in HK should be around HKD4250 - HKD4300. Question is, Are there really any method to check whether this new phone I just bought isn't a refurbished one? or a second hand sold as a new unit ? seeing me as a foreigner, they would think I am easier to trick.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have made an app that sets notifications in the drop-down status bar of Android phones. However, there is a bug in my code (sometimes the notifications are set, sometimes they are not). I want to be able TO CHECK (in the code) IF THE NOTIFICATION IS VISIBLE TO THE USER. (i.e. can the user see the notification in the status bar?).
How can I do this?
When an Android phone receives a call it automatically checks if the call exists in its own contact database. I was wondering if there is a simple way to access that information. I have a PhoneStateListener that performs certain actions during a ringing state, and I want to check if the incoming caller is in the contacts list.
Is there a way to do this without going through the Contacts ContentProvider?
I want to develop an application that will periodically check whether Wi-Fi is enabled in android and depending on on the result it will take an action. Can anyone give me some suggestions regarding this?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a DX running the 2.2 OTA. I rooted my phone but did nothing else (no deodex, no custom anything.) I did rename some of the default apps to disable them but backed up before. Now, here is my question. I want to check for updates (I know where are none, but I keep hoping there will be to fix all the little bugs Froyo seems to have) and I get a "Check for update was not available at this time." I get this EVERY TIME.
Could this be a problem from rooting? Is anyone else having this issue? And yes, I did disable the wifi only updating in settings, so it isn't that.
how often does this app check for aol mail..i couldnt find settings anywhere for that unlike the built in email app
View 5 Replies View Relatedon my old phone (palm treo 755) i had a checkbook app that i used daily. i have tried several finance apps on the market, but none seem to do what i want. i have tried the following:
checkbook genius
easymoney
checkbook
dgmoney
with the old program i could create budgets, set up future payments/deposits, show & hide transactions from the transaction list (ie hide cleared items) and display acct balance on a specific day the apps i've tried so far do make decent checkbook registers, but i miss the flexibility of my old app. anyone know of or have experience with another app that could do all this? i have no problem paying for an app that does all this.
I googled 'android app market". Found a site but it looked like a kid designed it. Hope that wasn't it. But where do i go to check out apps before the X gets here? Besides the App section here
