I have an existing AVD I'm running in the Android emulator, but I'd like to change its Device ID. Can this be done either in Android SDK and AVD Manager or by editing any of the files in my ~/.android directory?

I am now getting emails from users who have the HTC Droid Incredible phone that they are getting the error message I have added to the app that is showing the DeviceID being returned is not valid - which means it is either empty/null or the default ID used in the emulator. I require a valid DeviceID to use my app, and the permissions are all set fine in the XML. It works just fine on every other device, and now suddenly it seems to stop working on this phone. Anyone else having this issue? Anyone find out what is causing it? Does HTC now block this ID on this device?

I just got my Droid 2 today, and I have a few questions to ask with one notable one.
Most importantly, is it possible to change the virtual keyboard into an ABC style instead of the traditional QWERTY? I'm not sure which I would stick with in the end, but I would like to try out another orientation.
Wi-fi drains the battery, right? I have horrible phone service at my house(home for the holidays) but at school the service is great, should I bother using Wi-Fi regularly?
Also is it possible to have the screen wake up when it is touched? The lock screen seems a bit unnecesary considering that there is already a lock button, so it would be nice to disable one or the other.
EDIT: Also, it seems like my phone has decided to spam my contact list with all of my Facebook "friends." That seems like it could cause some problems...
Also do you have any suggestions for a music player over the standard one? I have not really looked through the market yet personally(mostly due to the horrible service here), so any suggestions are welcome.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have created a small and simple android app. I tried installing it on an actual android device. But because it won't install, I created an AVD resembling my phone. I tried copying and installing app on that AVD and it still says that error. "Application xxx could not be installed on this phone".
Before I tried installing my app on the phone or AVD I following steps:
1. Exported an unsigned copy of application onto my hard-drive.
2. User jarsigner to sign the app
3. Verified with jarsigner that my app is signed properly.
4. Used zipalign to optimize the app resources.
I do not have an icon assigned to myapp but mandatory properties like version etc. have been specified properly.
I had initially developed app using 2.1 version but because of compatability issues with my phone I reverted code to compile on 1.5 and it still doesn't get installed either on AVD or my phone.
My AVD is on 2.1 though and code is compiled with 1.5.
Is there a place where I can see the logs as to why app is not getting installed.
I want to root my Android 4.0.4 virtual device for developing.......... How to root it?

How can I load Android Virtual Device ?
I've set up the Android SDK and Eclipse on my machine running Windows XP and AVDs (Android Virtual Devices) are saved to "Documents and Setting suers.android" by default. Is there any way to change this behavior? I have all of the other components saved in a directory on a separate partition and would like everything to be consolidated. Obviously not a huge deal but does anyone here know a workaround for this?

I know it's pretty easy to create a new device but it'd be great if one could just download the config file for each device and run it.
