Android :: Best Way To Show A Long File?

Sep 9, 2010

I have a lengthy (20K) text file I need to display (the terms and conditions document written by an obviously overpaid lawyer).

What's the best/simplest way to show this to a user? I loaded the text from a raw resource and added it as the message to an AlertDialog, but the text is cut off about half way. I couldn't find any obvious limits to the alert dialog text or the TextView it uses.

Android :: How Long Does It Take For Application To Show Up In Market?

Jan 19, 2010

Once you fill out the submission form and upload the apk, assuming the file is signed properly, etc, how long does it take an application to show up in the Market?The Dev Guide doesn't appear to mention this detail. I'm guessing it should show up almost immediately since I've never read anything about waiting for an approval process.

Android :: Show Context Menu When Link Is Long Pressed In TextView?

Apr 18, 2010

I have a TextView with its MovementMethod set to LinkMovementMethod. Text added to the TextView is a combination of normal text and URLs. For URLs, I would like to offer a context menu when the URL is long pressed for doing things such as copying the address. I've had a look at the source for LinkMovementMethod but it doesn't seem to have any long pressed related code I could override. Any ideas on how to go around achieving this?

Android :: Show Extra Info For Preference Screens When CheckboxPreference Summary Field Is Not Enough Long?

Mar 9, 2010

I have a screen where you can enable/disable modules for my Android application.

For this I use a CheckboxPreference screen. This is all good, but the summary field gets cut off if longer descriptions are added than 2 lines.

Suppose I have 4-5 lines of description available for each module, I would like to display this in a helper window.

I tried to bind a click event to the CheckboxPreference, but that fires for the whole line, so not only when the checkbox is clicked, and more, wherever you click on the line the checkbox is toggled.

So now I am wondering if this can be fixed. So if the user needs more info, just taps the text and the helper opens up, and if want to toggle the settings it taps the checkbox.

Android :: Fastest Way To Read Long[] From File?

Sep 29, 2010

I have a file that contains about 200,000 long values that I want to read as fast as possible into a long[]. It's for an Android app; function calls are slow (so anything involving reading a long at a time with a "for" loop will be super slow) and I need loading to be fast. What can I use? Everything I look at seems to read only bytes fast.

I've used ByteBuffer and FileChannel from the NIO package before and this seems a really fast way to load arrays of values from files. However, I cannot work out how to use this to read data into a long[]. I've tried wrapping a long[] as a LongBuffer, but I cannot see any way I can feed data from a file into a LongBuffer.

Edit: Whatever method I use, I need to be able to use Arrays.binarySearch on the long[] array at the end.

General :: FTFs Flashtool Does Not Show File List And Neither Wipe Cache Or Data

Dec 19, 2012

OK, before I start, it's about an LT15i. I don't know what's happening, but at some .FTFs Flashtool does not show the file list (middle column) and neither "wipe cache" or data and one FTF has the "wipe cache" option only. This is really annoying. Tutorials specify a download link for a specific FTF and after starting Flashtool and selecting the flash option, that FTF is not showing up properly. Should I download an earlier version of the program?

HTC EVO 4G :: EMAIL - Annoying - Show HTML - Show Picture - Buttons

Jun 10, 2010

I know I'm not the only person that gets emails with embedded html or inlined images via google mail. When I get emails like this, I have to click on "Show HTML" or "Show Picture" every single time an email comes in if I actually want to see the email the way it was intended to be shown. I know for a fact that iphones and other email readers dont have any issues with this. Is there a setting to automatically display the email the way it was meant to be shown instead of having to click these buttons each time I want to view the email correctly? Or, perhaps there's already a market app that forces the android email client to display emails correctly?

Android :: Is It Efficient To Use Text File Or XML File To Store Static Data

Jul 31, 2009

I have some reference data in a text file (~5MB) that I want to use with might android application.The file is of the format:
1|a|This is line 1a
1|b|This is line 1b
2|a|This is line 2a
2|b|This is line 2b
2|c|This is line 2c

What I want to know is the most efficient way (less memory, fast, size etc.) to use this file within my application.

a.) Should I save the file as a raw resource and open and read the whole file whenever I need a certain line.
b.) Should I convert the file to XML and use XPath to query the file when ever I need to look up a value
<!--sample XML -->
<data>
<line number="1">
<entry name="a">This is line 1 a</entry>
</line>
</data>
c.) Should I just copy & paste the whole file as a static string array in the application and use that.
[EDIT] I will also need to search this file and jump to arbitrary keywords e.g. "line 1a".

Android :: Resize Large Bitmap File To Scaled Output File

Jul 26, 2010

I have a large bitmap (say 3888x2592) in a file. Now, I want to resize that bitmap to 800x533 and save it to another file.I normally would scale the bitmap by calling Bitmap.createBitmap method but it needs a source bitmap as the first argument, which I can't provide because loading the original image into a Bitmap object would of course exceed the memory (see here, for example).Is there a way to read a large image file with 10MP or more and save it to a new image file, resized to a specific new width and height, without getting an OutOfMemory exception?I also tried BitmapFactory.decodeFile(file, options) and setting the Options.outHeight and Options.outWidth values manually to 800 and 533, but it doesn't work that way.

Android : Is There A File Picker Widget For Custom File Formats

Oct 27, 2010

I'm writing a bitmap editor. Each document consists of about 3 bitmap layers and documents are, at the moment, saved as a custom file with a .bme extension. These files can be converted to standard jpg/png files by rendering each bitmap on top of one bitmap and saving the latter. I need some way for the user to be able to select .bme files they've created already. Is there anything in Android that can make this easier for me? The only option I can see is to write an activity that creates a list view and write a list adapter that looks for .bme files on disk i.e. a copy of the standard "Media Gallery" app that works for my .bme files. The list adapter will either have to generate a thumbnail preview of the image to show to the user or I'll have to package such a preview in the .bme file when they're created. This is the only option I can think of. I thought I'd ask in case there is more Android friendly way of doing this. For example, can you add custom file support to the "Media Gallery" app?
