Android :: Any Way To Open DOC File And View Contents?
Nov 2, 2010
I have created a app that displays all the content from res/raw folder. I need that when I click on .doc file it should open and I can view its content. I have ThinkFree.
Enter code here:
public class FileList extends ListActivity {
public static final Field[] fields = R.raw.class.getFields();
/** Called when the activity is first created. */
@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setListAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<Field>(this, R.layout.row, R.id.weekofday, fields));
} @Override
protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
//super.onListItemClick(l, v, position, id);
String selection = l.getItemAtPosition(position).toString();
Toast.makeText(this, selection, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
Intent i = new Intent();
i.setAction(android.content.Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
startActivity(i);
} }

I have a class that extends View. I override the onDraw method and allow the user to draw on the screen. I am at the point where I want to save this view as an image. I Can use buildDrawingCache and getDrawingCache to create a bitmap that I can write to the SD card. However, the image is not good quality at a large size, it has jagged edges. Since I have a View and I use Paths I can transform all by drawing to a bigger size. I just don't know how to make the Canvas bigger so when I call getDrawingCache it doesn't crop all the paths I am just transformed. What is happening is I transform all my paths but when I write the Bitmap to file I am only getting the "viewport" of the actual screen size. I want something much bigger.

I have a list which shows data from a database using a cursor adapter. Using Menu option I am updating my database (inserting more rows deleting existing rows). When Menu operation completes, I want contents of list should show updated contents.
I have tried using cursor.requery(); (or explicitly querying cursor again) and using adapter.notifydatasetchanged(), but with this list of contents are not updated.
How can I refresh the contents of the list.

We have ported android to our hardware. I am facing some issues related to sdcard. Here is the test scenario and issues:
First issue :
1. On hardware, insert the card and copy a file to sdcard using dd command.
2. Remove the card from hardware.
3. Do ls /sdcard. It shows the file present in sdcard. It seems unmount of sdcard device is not happening.
Second issue:
1. Copy a file to sdcard using dd command.
2. Remove the sdcard and check the content of the sdcard from PC. File is not visible.
3. Copy file to sdcard again and then check the content of sdcard from PC. File size is zero bytes.
4. Restart the hardware and copy the file again. File is visible when checked from PC.
Third issue:
1. The content of copied file are not matching with the original source file.

I know there are already alot of apps to protect the phones and its contents BUT is there anything stopping a thief from simply taking out the sdcard and putting it in another phone or reader to view and access the contents of the sdcard? If you plan on storing personal info on the card, whether it'd be photos / files etc It would be really good to know that even if the sdcard is taken they still cannot access the info. I would've thought this is a pretty common request. something like trycrypt or storage crypt for the microsd card would be really good.

I am trying to reverse engineer an existing android app and understand how a particular UI is constructed. I've found that I can rename the apk to zip and view some of the compiled source. The res/layout directory is populated with all the xml files that define the UI, but while they do have the xml extension, they are not in XML format. Is there anyway to convert these files back to text based markup?

I only know that the Activity of View detail Message is named "HtmlConversationActivity." And the Package is under "com.google.android.gm.

I have an Activity that was created based on the TriangleRenderer example. It works flawlessly as a standalone project, but when I use it as the tab of a tabhost there is a problem. At startup the whole activity is just black - I can get touch events and do everything else but it doesnt show anything. When I change the orientation (and therefore recreate the activity) it all works well. Maybe the problem comes from the View focus. My SurfaceView is not focused when created inside of the tabhost. I tried to fiddle around with the methods available in my onCreate() and onPostCreate(), but couldnt find a way to get the SurfaceView focused. The following sourcecode blocks in the guardedRun() method because needToWait() is true because !mHasFocus is true. If I exclude the ! mHasFocus, it goes on but shows a black View anyways. Do you have any idea why it does work after orientation change, but not at the first startup? The Activity looks quite simple.

I don't want to store said file on the sdcard in this case. The file also cannot be storage directly in the apps local files directory. It needs to be in a subdirectory, so it cannot write the file using openFileOutput() and MODE_WORLD_READABLE.
The app may download files small files like pdfs and store them locally in a subdirectory. I would like to be able to have the user open these files if they have an app that can open them.
For example here is an intent for sending a pdf:
CODE:..............
path being something like: /data/data/packagename/files/subdir/example.pdf
That intent will open a pdf viewer, but the viewer is unable to open the file. I assume this is a permissions issue. I tried Mark Murphy's suggestion here: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/4e55d869213483a9/b7270078ac1a2744?lnk=raot of using Runtime.getRuntime().exec("chmod 755 " + fileName); but it didn't make any difference. He also suggested a Content Provider but I would like to avoid it if I can because it seems like a lot just to get this file over to another app.
If the content provider is the only option, do I have to save the file to the content provider or can I just use the content provider as a pass through to get it to the other app when I need to?

Like that I need to open the file from the download folder in android. I have used the intent-filter for register my ics files mime type. When I select the file in the download folder it just opens my application only. At that time I need to open / read the selected file. How to do this?
