Android :: Any Task Killer Or Cleaner That Will Work With Froyo?
Aug 3, 2010
It seem like after the 2.2 update my "system penal lite" just doesn't work right anymore. Everything is in active even its not. Even I killed it and still coming back up. So does anyone have task killer or some other program that can close out all inactive apps and keep it close that work with Froyo? After the update, battery drain faster because all the apps was running at the background. lots of them!

Anyway, I just wanted for everyone to post their favorite Task Manager/Killer, and why, and if there are any flaws. I personally use Advanced Task Killer Free. It has a simple UI, and the when you select or unselect apps it remebers it so next time you launch the app you can only remove the apps that you usually do, and keep ones that always run. It doesn't slow down or break the system.

I am new to android, I have been spending the past 2 weeks on the forum scanning through all the posts trying to pick up some off the tricks and other things I am gonna need to not break my phone and get the most out of it. One thing I haven't found a clear answer on though is task killer apps on froyo. I've read that with froyo, you don't need a task killer because it does it well enough on its own and might bug the os out by closing apps that should be closed, and ive read other wise. So does anyone have the definite answer?

Much better battery life. So I have noticed a huge difference since I uninstalled Advanced Task Killer today. Yes, there is a huge debate about if they work or not. In my person experience, it helped on previous Fresh builds. Now that Froyo is out I thought I would try it without a task killer. I had Advanced Task Killer since Fresh 3.1 came out and I haven't been happy with bat performance. Since uninstalling it this afternoon, I have noticed a change in phone and bat performance. Tonight I will get a good usb charge and see if see the difference tomorrow and will report back. For what its worth, uninstall task killers and see if you get better performance.

I've read a few posts in other forums where 2.2 doesn't allow you to kill apps with a Task Killer, can anyone confirm or deny? Please no task killer arguments! Just curious whether it still allows you to use one.

I was just wondering how many of you have downloaded "Automatic Task Killer" and have gotten it to work. On my phone i have downloaded it but when i click to start it it blips the screen really fast then goes back to the desktop. not sure if advanced task killer is stopping Automatic task killer from being able to start or what.

I get that some of you are strongly convinced that task killers are of the devil. But the simple fact is this. When I got my Evo I was told to download ATK by the rep at Sprint. I put the widget on my home screen and used it like a dope fiend. And maybe I was self medicating, but my battery life sucked, and using it made my battery life suck less. Then, along came froyo, ATK stopped working, I read all the forums and got rid of ATK. Now my battery is worse than its ever been. I want to be able to look my apps and have them remain dead until I say so because its MY phone. That being said are there ANY task killers that work with froyo?

I am making an app that allows the user to set an alarm based on GPS locations. I am having problems deleting the notifications I create and the alarms I set.
I have found that all the notifications and alarms are deleted permanently when I use the "Advanced Task Killer App". I want to implement whatever it does into my app. Does anyone know what this app does and/or where I can find the source code?

I want a task killer that automatically kills processes when they load. Some apps like HTC sense and the built in messanger app I would love having them killed instantly, is there one that i can get? Before you say, yes the Eris DOES need a task killer. Asked any eris user, once it gets below 30 MB of ram, it slows down to a near halt. They majority of thos for me is processes that load without me telling them too, and ons that I never use, such as htc sense or the default messager apps. I'm rooted btw.

I know this was talked about before at different times but I still have 3 questions.
1. what is the difference between a task killer and a task manager?
2. should we be using one of these apps or not?
3. when you look at the awake time if it is like 70% or 80% and you aren't using the phone a bunch I take it that means something is running, how can you find what is running.and is the awake time that big of deal?

Looking for a guide on how to use task killer. I had task killer on and deleted it. I think I was killing tasks that were needed to keep certain functions running that I use frequently. If someone would take the time to help me understand how to use one, I think I would be much more successful with it.
example - text messaging just stopped ( werrent receiving them ) . Once I took task killer off, everything started working again.

I've written a new task manager / system information app called "SystemPanel". It displays a list of running applications, and allows you to view information about them, e.g., memory consumption, when they were started, how much CPU time they've used since start, and so on. It of course provides "task killing" capabilities; it can end individual apps, all apps, or groups of apps such as "inactive" or "background" apps.
It also provides meters to show you current CPU consumption, network use, memory use, and SD card use. A "system info" function is available from the menu that provides all the gory details about your phone, everything from your Wi-Fi router's mac address to your Android build number.
A word of warning....SystemPanel does NOT offer a capability to automatically kill tasks in order to "save battery life". I disagree with the idea that such a thing would offer an improvement. The Android OS does a fine job of this all by itself, and such a capability would only be helpful if an app were suffering from a bug (or poorly written), such that is consumed battery unnecssarily in a semi-dormant state. And in that case, killing it every few minutes isn't going to solve the problem...one needs to uninstall it or contact the developer. If you happen to know a technically sound reason why such a task killing strategy is beneficial with well written apps, please let me know, and I'll be happy to rethink this. If you do want such functionality, there are tons of other task killers that supposedly have this feature.

Is a task killer really necessary? I haven't really noticed any benefit in using it. I am beginning to think it's like a Windows registry cleaner -- sounds good in theory, but pretty much useless with the ability to really screw things up, if you don't know what you're doing.

I just got my first smartphone, a Samsung Galaxy S through US Cellular (the Mesmerize). It runs Android 2.1 Eclair, and is supposed to be updated to Froyo before the end of the year.
When I got the phone, the person at US Cellular installed Advanced Task Killer on my phone and said I should use it to free up memory and save battery life. So at first I was using it, and it did free up a lot of memory when I pressed the kill tasks button. But then I had some issues like Winamp getting killed when it was playing music in the background. This prompted me to look more into task killers and I found a lot of conflicting information. Some people say they are bad and don't help and cause trouble on the phone, others said just the opposite. There were some specific comments about ATK saying it can corrupt the OS. This all made me very nervous and I'm not sure what to believe. So for now I have uninstalled ATK. What input do you guys have about task killers?

I had a very good task manager when I first got my phone (2 weeks ago) but have since then uninstalled it. I know task killers a basically useless but I do have the odd instance where and program crashes and I need to kill the process. From what I can remember the task manager had 3 screens which had the following :-
Screen 1
Currently running programs, press the app to kill it.
Screen 2
The uninstall screen.
Screen 3
Cpu % used and space remaining on the phone and SD.

I see a lot of people recommending the Advanced Task Killer app and I was wondering what benefits there are to be had from installing it? The only widget I have running is the Calendar and all I have on my "home" screen is HTC People, Messages, Gmail, Market, Internet and email. Is this really necessary in my case?

How do you know which ones to kill and which to keep going? If I kill say a running app like smooth calendar will it restart automatically again when needed? I have an app called missed call now if I kill that will it still work when I have a missed call and allow the led light to blink or once I kill it I have to manually start it back up?
