My friend bricked his DX with the Deodexing or whatever. After an sbf flash..
Can we update to 2.2 via update.zip in recovery, install rom manager, and then install MY backup on his phone? I'm currently uploading them to file hosting, and wondering if this would work.
If so, will he be fully rooted, deodexed, and themed(I'm rocking the xtreme 2.2 theme)?
I've been trying to update my phone now for nearly two weeks, trying various options, yet nothing I do helps in any way.I started off just running the update from SEUS with my phone as i've been using it.the updater started, gets about 70% through "Preparing" and pops up an error "Unable to install or start software update components." Closing which pops up "try again" or come to this site.I then tried uninstalling all installed components, same result as above.I then tried a Master Reset to factory setting, same result as above.I then disable the Firewall and the Anti-Virus, same result as above.Basically, i'm at the end of my tether, this should not be this difficult, I should not have to jump through this amount of hoops. If there was a way to legitimately root the phone (keeping warranty), I could already have Froyo installed, instead of this irritating mess thats causing me nothing but headaches.

View 45 Replies View RelatedI download and installed Koush's Froyo Rom in ROM Manager. After I logged into my google account, and everything synced down, I got a message in the notification bar saying "35 applications restored"? My applications didn't get restored when I went from DroidMod 1.0, wiped everything, and then went to CyanogenMod 5.0.7.1 with a full wipe of 2.1. Is this a new feature of 2.2?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have 10.000+ text messages (sms) om my old phone that I would like to get into my gmail account using the SMS Backup app. So far I have managed - with superb assistance from Boni2K - to get them exported from the old software i had them in (MyPhoneExplorer) as an xml-file that the SMS Backup and Restore app can read.
Problem now is that the SMS Backup and Restore will restore them to the SD-card (it is indicated with a small SD-icon next to the restored messages), and the SMS Backup app only backs up messages from phone memory to GMail. Can I move the restored messages from the SD card memory to the Phone memory?.............
I got a new Hero about a month ago. Last weekend, it basically restored itself to factory settings. All my contacts are gone, all the apps I downloaded had gone, text messages, calendar, the lot. It was as if I had pushed a button and reset the phone. Now, little by little, stuff has come back. I logged back into my google account and I would assume the calendar syncs with the google calendar as all my appointments are back. The Google account also remembered which apps I had and I redownloaded them. However, the contacts and the text messages have never come back. Is this a known issue? Is my phone possibly faulty and needs to be returned? I'm so confused. I do love this phone but I am not putting up with a phone which I cannot rely upon.
View 4 Replies View RelatedBacked up my phone (x10) and then updated to 2.1. I then restored the data and everything was restored (apps etc.) but not contacts, the main thing I wanted to restore, I keep going back to restore the phone and it keeps saying that the contacts have been restored, but they haven't.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just updated to the new 2.1 and only 1 of my contacts has been restored? I downloaded the newest version of Back up and Restore before the update? Is there anyway I can retrieve my contacts? I do hope so?! Or will cry. I've also had to re install the apps one by one too? A couple didn't restore at all? But the contacts is the main one!

Problems like the ones most of you on the forum are describing. After a hard reset and not restoring his backups he has no problems.

Switched from NeatROM by flashing to Slim Saber. Restored all my data using MyBackup Pro. Mostly everything works except for Viber
A fresh installation of Viber works. But the moment I restore my data, it will not start up anymore. I've checked CatLog and the main error seems to be permission based:
Code:
Failed to chmod(/data/data/com.viber.voip/databases/viber_messages):
libcore.io.ErrnoException: chmod failed: EPERM (Operation not permitted)
Unable to create files directory /data/data/com.viber.voip/files
I've tried manually changing the permissions to follow the same perms from the "fresh data" of Viber - but that doesn't seem to fix this error.
Full Viber log:

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo if I hard reset my Eris I know it will wipe the phone clean and leave me SD card alone. How can I get all my apps back or do I need to go back and install them all back?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've noticed whenever I use a new ROM and restore from a update.zip (with all apps, data..etc) there are a few problems...
1) Applications restore correctly, but Accounts, Wi-Fi Access points...etc do not... I have to boot into the ROM and restore them via TitaniumBackup.
2) Restored applications work, but some don't start on Launch like Whatsapp, Viber, Facebook, Facebook Messenger but applications like Dropbox, Skype (autorunner), GMail, Yahoo Mail do and every single one of these apps has been ran once manually. If I used Xposed and "Bootmanager" I can visually see that they should run on launch as it says they are going to however they don't. The only way I can get them to run at launch is to uninstal the application and reinstall it manually (thus losing my data for the app, as restoring the data only doesn't work).
I have a G2 rooted with the Desire Z HBOOT and clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.7 and everything was working perfectly when randomly out of nowhere my backups no longer restored properly. It would either say md5 sum mismatch or it would restore and get stuck at HTC bootscreen. This happens with any rom i flash. I've tried wiping/factory reset/formatting sdcard/flashing older cwm/ and even removing and creating new md5 images. NOTHING works. This is important to me because I ususally flash back and forth between different roms and I like being able to back them up.

I have a quick question. I'm looking to install the Uncommon Sense ROM, but what if I want to go back to my stock ROM? How do I do that?
I'm running rubix focused .5 and its been great, I installed the camera-search-voice fix and didnt have any problems along with having full camera functionality. Eventually I decided to try the Incognito theme since it had a "blurless" version. I noticed it changed my camera icon obviously but I didnt actually open it. I decided I didnt like it, so I restored my nandroid I made immediately before putting the theme on. Next thing I notice, my camera shortcuts are the generic green apk icon. And they dont work, at all.
I nandroid restore to an even earlier back-up (from right after applying rubix) and still no camera functionality. It doesnt appear in my apps under manage applications, the blurcamera.apk is in the system folder, and I tried deleting/replacing that again, and installing it right from the apk and I get an install failed. I don't understand how I could lose my camera app when I restore to a back-up that had it working fine.
There is a guy selling on on my local Craigslist and it is flashed to Cricket. Can this be undone easily and restored to original factory Verizon standard?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy phone died in the middle of taking video. Came home a couple hours later, plugged my phone into the charger. I turned the phone on, after it was plugged in. My phone froze during the little HTC and Hero intro. After the freeze, it was back on, but my screens were all back to factory settings! It also asked me to calibrate my keyboard, and the little popup bubbles to guide the user with their "new phone" came up! All my apps were gone!! I lost ALL of my contacts! The only thing that stayed was my pictures and videos. It doesn't make any sense to me.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering if there is any way possible to go back after applying the update? I just tried it and it wouldn't let me as it said the ROM is older than the one installed. I was going to go back and root my phone again then apply the rooted version of 2.2. If not, no big deal, I am sure a 2.2 root will be available soon.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI cancelled when prompted to update to froyo because i had low battery. Figured I would do it at home.
Now I can't seem to get the update. Tried Settings > System Updated > HTC Software Update > Check Now, but it keep saying that there are no new updates.
I recently rooted my phone. That went fine, I got the fancy # prompt without too much trouble. So I installed ROM Manager and got the ClockworkMod Recovery img. When I hit reboot into recovery from ROM Manager it booted to the LG boot screen and wouldn't go anywhere past that. I freaked thinking I was bricked. I left my phone alone for like 4 or so hours and it was fine thankfully. So I pretty much stayed away from fancy stuff like that for the past week.
Then this new firmware update comes out.
My question is... If i install the new OTA update will I lose my root access? I've read about situations where people lose their root then gain it back, I'm just curious if this is the path I will have to follow.
I have a backup of my stock ROM with root access and I'm not running any custom ROMs.
My Desire is 1 week old and came with 2.2 preloaded. It is an unlocked unbranded handset from Carphone Warehouse. Yesterday my phone displayed a message that there is an update available. I decided to check it out before jumping in with both feet. I currently have software version 2.09.405.8, so I assume this update will give me 2.10.405.2? If so, I have read here that there are a few problems with the update, specifically with wifi. I have also read elsewhere that HTC withdrew the update until this was fixed.
Some of the solutions talk about manual installation and a gold card, whatever that is!
Have HTC fixed the wifi problem? Is it now safe for me to install the update OTA? Or should I wait? I really don't want my phone being messed up and having to fiddle around with gold cards or whatever.
I got the message on my phone that there is an update. I tried installing it but it wouldn't let me. I tried the manual way and everytime it goes to install it tells me installation aborted. Any ideas?
I should also mention that when I click recovery after hitting power+volume down it goes to an android guy with an exclamation point.
My phone couldn't update from 2.1 to 2.2 because i used the unrevoked method of rooting. in order for me to get 2.2 i updated my phone with the pc36img.zip file and then rooted again with unrevoked. Now when I'm trying update from 2.2 with the new 3.29.651.5 update, the phone will have the triangle with a exclamation point.Any ideas?
