Android :: Internet Filter To Block Any Mature Content From Devices Browser?

May 22, 2010

I just got my HTC Desire the other day and I'm looking for a family friendly Internet filter (aka. Web protection, Net safety, Internet security) app for my phone that will block any mature content from the devices browser. At the moment I can't find anything- but I know these forums are the best on the web- so, if a net family filter android app exists, I know someone on here will be able to tell me about it!

Android :: Specify Scheme Specific Part In Data Tag For An Intent-filter?

Feb 3, 2010

I want to set up a BroadcastReceiver to handle PACKAGE_REPLACED, but I only want to be notified when my package is replaced. It works fine if I specify a data tag with scheme="package" but then I get notified when any application is reinstalled or upgraded. I can't figure out how I'm supposed to specify the package name which is in the scheme specific part -- that is, when my BroadcastReceiver gets the intent in onRecieve(), if I do intent.getData().getSchemeSpecificPart(), that's the package name, but is there any way I can filter for only that in my intent-filter?

General :: Kernel For GT-S5300 - Data Usage Defender App Not Able To Filter Connection?

Jul 12, 2012

Kernel with fixed Iptables/Netfilter issue!! I found that my rooted Galaxy Pocket GT-S5300 has a problem applying the iptables/Netfilter. My Droidwall nor Data Usage Defender app cannot be able to filter the connection thus, I won't be able to manage my data usage at al. Below the quote from the page:

Quote:

Common error messages:

1. can't initialize iptables table 'filter': Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?) Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

This error message unfortunately means that your kernel does not support iptables/netfilter, so DroidWall will not work.

The only possible solution is to flash a customized ROM (or kernel) with full netfilter support.

2. no chains/target/match by that name

This error message unfortunately means that your kernel does not support netfilter owner match module, so DroidWall will not work.

The only possible solution is to flash a customized ROM (or kernel) with full netfilter support.

Ensure that the following configuration option is enabled in the kernel (either built-in or as a module): CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_OWNER

Pporting the kernel/ROM that has already support the iptables/Netfilter for Galaxy Pocket GT-S5300?

Android :: Supplying Action / Data Where Filter Had Only Action

Oct 31, 2010

I thought that Action was preeminent during intent resolution and if the intent had the same action as the intent filter, it would be considered a match regardless of data, if the filter did not specify anything. So I was very surprised to find that supplying action+data where filter had only action, causes it to fail. In the code below, if you comment out line 47 so that data is *not* sent, only then it resolves correctly. To get it to work with the data (an id that is simply a String), what mime type should I specify in the intent filter?

Now that i'm with T-mobile, can someone confirm that when they turn mobile browsing on, the 'Access point name is only "MOBILE WORLD_WAP"?

Then there's another option below that reads : "Mobile World" ..

The settings i have for that don't seem to be working, and it's messing everything up (market place won't update, internet doesn't work, and maps can't syncronise - EVEN THOUGH the "H" sign on working on the top left with both up and down arrows flashing/holding)..

HTC Hero :: Internet / Data Connection Bit Iffy?

Nov 24, 2009

I've had a Hero for a few weeks now, and while most things are great, I'm finding the internet connection very unreliable. For example, if I try to use the browser to view a website, often it says it can't find the page, even for www.google.com, and this is using a bookmark so I know it's a valid address. Often in the Market, it says it doesn't have a connection and to retry or cancel.

I am usually connected via wi-fi, either at home or at the office, so I know the wi-fi connection is good, and both have been tested thoroughly with my iPhone 3G. It's almost as if I have to wait for something to happen before I can use the net, but I make sure the wifi signal symbol appears before I try anything. Why could my data connection be so unstable?

Now back in the UK still same issue - no internet, and cannot send MMS picture messages - even when in strong 3G signal Tried all the options I can find but no joy at all.

HTC Desire :: Losing Data / Internet Connection

Jul 1, 2010

Unbranded, fully updated (2.1-update1), Desire. Three months old. No task killers installed. Just this past couple of days I've noticed it has not been showing the data connection symbol in the top bar, next to the signal strength bars. Try and connect to the internet or the market and get a 'failed' pop up window asking to either retry of cancel. Retry never works.

I go into settings > Wireless & Networks and disable Mobile Network, then enable it again and it flickers on then goes off again. Repeat this and it stays on for a while but always goes off again after about 20 minutes even though the Mobile Network is ticked green. Why is this happening? I'm missing emails because of this and it's a bit of a pain.

Android :: Best Approach For Requesting Data (internet Connection)

Sep 28, 2010

I have an app in which there are several requests to a server in internet (http), for example to retrieve images in threads outside the main UI process. The thing is that I have a Thread that manage the request with a while(!end) loop and in the end a Thread.sleep(500) that checks if there are new unhandled requests. As I read here [1] I know that this is not a good practice. And users have complain about ANR (app not responding) in several cases.

Knowing that obviously I want to refactor all the way my app manage the requests and I want to do that the best way. So, the question is; what is the best approach for doing this? A service? a broadcast receiver and send intents when I need a request to be handled?

Do you guys leave mobile internet on then use a data connection toggle like on switch pro to enable disable as and when you like? Or do you use a toggle like curvefish apn to rename and automatically connect to the network? Or do you turn it on and off via settings or the power button as and when you need it? Bit lost on the subject to be honest. Also when I go and turn mobile internet on in the settings under it it says something like connect to mobile internet when WiFi is unavailable. Is this the default setting or can it be changed to only connect when I want it to?

HTC Magic :: What Apps Are Connecting To The Internet And How Much Data Have They Transferred

Feb 1, 2010

I am a new HTC Magic (Vodafone) user and have downloaded a number of useful Apps from the market. Since I work away from the UK (and have roaming disabled) and I have a Wi-Fi at home, I do not have a data pack included in my contract. However, I have found that a great App I downloaded - NetCounter - is reporting cell traffic that is going to end up costing me a lot of money.

So I have a few questions.

1) How do I switch between running applications, so I can see what's running?

2) How do I prevent certain Apps from starting whenever I power on the phone?

3) How do I see what Apps are connecting to the internet(ignoring the WiFi) and creating unwanted cell traffic.

4) Is there something I can disable so that I can use the phone normally, but prevent it from connecting to the internet unless I am back home and using the WiFi connection.
